Travel agent was great on our first trip, but not on the second trip. I would not use her again and I'm not sure I would use this company again as well because they only book you in hotels that are very high rated and obviously very expensive and they get a kickback, of course. I worked with Deborah on our trip to Scotland and Ireland. She was wonderful...had great recommendations on our entire vacation. Her suggestions were helpful and end of the day after discussing our thoughts, she was able to hit the ball out of the park. She was also super flexible as we booked some of the smaller tours during our trip as well as some of the transfers...however, she provided the guidance we needed. Sorry to say, but I cannot recommend McCabe World Travel (MWT). Incredibly non-responsive. Allow me to explain. I am planning a multi-country multi-week vacation for the summer of 2023. I contacted MWT through their website explaining in good detail the idea behind the trip and the desired particulars for each identified country. No response. After a week had gone by, as mentioned with no response, I called MWT directly and spoke with a pleasant receptionist. She indicated they didn't see any message via the website, and that the website might be having issues. Ok, first concern is that MWT lacks enough sophistication to have a properly functioning website that can ensure potential new customers are able to successfully reach them and create new business. The second concern was that, after explaining the overall gist of my travel plans, she was unable to articulate who within the MWT team would likely be able to handle my travel needs based on MWT associates' backgrounds and areas of specialization. However, she did take down my information and promised to pass it along so that someone could contact me directly in order to assist me. Fair enough, thanks. Two days later, still no contact, so I took time out of my day to drop in during MWT's normal business hours. The office waiting area presents nicely, so that seemed encouraging. When I introduced myself and indicated I had tried to reach the office previously (website, phone), the receptionist seemed to remember our conversation, and referenced a notepad where she had jotted down my info. I told her no one had contacted me, and asked if my message had been passed along. She said yes. That raises another concern. I believe she did pass along my information, and yet that means no one within the MWT team took the time to reach out to at least make contact if only to arrange an in person meeting to discuss my travel plans/ideas in detail. Nothing. I left after the receptionist checked and indicated no one was available to speak with me. Thanks, we're done. I'm sorry, but, as a business, if you can't maintain a properly functioning website to allow potential customers to contact you, and can't respond to customer inquiries in a timely fashion (or at all in this case), then I seriously have to question your ability to handle the travel planning aspects involved in multi-country travel involving air/rail/ground transportation needs, lodging, tourist tickets, interpreter/translator requested services, as well as recommendations based on your associates personal travels to the identified locations. The overall experience with MWT indicates I am better off not trusting them to handle this level of travel planning. I do not recommend McCabe World Travel. read more

McCabe World Travel has made traveling so much easier! I was fully confident with my trips just by how much all the advisors know, and also all of their great relationships with hotels/vendors. They also made the stay very personal for my boyfriend and I-- we received an amenity of a bottle of champagne upon arrival and even snacks! It helps that you work with one person for every trip so you're not constantly having to explain your likes/dislikes and you end up building a relationship with your travel advisor! Kathi Sheridan, at McCabe Travel, is absolutely the best! She helped my husband and I plan a luxury vacation to Ireland. She knows Ireland inside and out and was able to recommend and book beautiful hotels and give extremely good advice on what to do and where to go. We had hoped to cover all of Ireland in 2 weeks, and through Kathi's sound advice, we kept narrowing the scope and ended up just seeing the southern half which with even that, we could have pared down even more. She was always available via email or phone and would help anything. We used points for lodging in Dublin and Kathi even contacted them to leave a bottle of wine in our room. Wherever you are traveling, I would have total confidence in using Kathi for your travel needs and totally rely on her recommendations! read more

I had the complete opposite experience as Diana V. What she describes is exactly what a travel agent is supposed to provide: have an extensive knowledge of the area you want to visit, advise upon your destination or possible alternatives based on your likes/dislikes, and use connections and corporate strength to negotiate lower prices and perks. I requested planning for a trip to the S. Pacific and got emailed options to the Caribbean. I reiterated our desires once again and was emailed a few options but no discussion of alternative locations as I'd wished. What was provided to me was exactly what I could do myself over Expedia.com or the like with the Flight + Hotel option. There was no real thought put into it or into us and what we were after. They charge a $150 fee before they will talk to you. Luckily after being disappointed with the service after a few email exchanges they did not charge me at my request. *regarding the below response from McCabe: I realized my destination may put me above my budget... it was a preferred amount, not a fixed limit. Further, our other choice of locations such as Thailand were within our budget but not explored as requested. read more

I used Jessica at McCabe to help plan a recent group trip to Australia. We had ten educators on a strict budget, and we were FLABBERGASTED by the accommodations. While in Brisbane, we stayed in apartments at the Mantra South Bank -- we had our own kitchens, balconies, living rooms, and bedrooms for each pair of attendees. The hotel was a block from our conference, and walking distance to all of the shopping and sight-seeing in South Bank. It was glorious. In Sydney, Jessica outdid herself. We stayed at the Four Seasons!! and were comped breakfast and drinks during our stay. For public/government employees on a budget, we had the best experience ever. I definitely could not have done it without Jessica, and I will be using her to book my next group event! read more

My wife and I used McCabe World Travel to plan our one year anniversary in France. I work 100+ hour weeks and this being my first time using a travel agent, thought that the agent would provide me leverage in expeditiously planning our vacation. Short story short, we got a rudimentary word document with a few overpriced hotels (3 star hotels at premium rates above where one could book four star hotels) and a few activities to consider. When I followed up providing more detail on what we were looking for the agent put forward a lackluster effort and told me my budget wasn't workable. Ended up planning the whole vacation myself and found premium hotels in our price range - disappointing that I had to do McCabe's job for them. Icing on the cake for me was when I asked the agent to help us find a special restaurant for our anniversary. No response, just radio silence. My advice for folks in contracts with them: use Expedia and Viator to keep them honest and check the prices they quote for your hotel and tour. While they deserve a reasonable margin for their business, I found that they seemed to be marking up the hotel by $500-$900 which seemed excessive. While obviously quotes change daily, the margin was so extreme and across most of the properties I was provided that it was too much to be coincidental. Two stars because I guess they did technically book our vacation for me, but they provided about as much leverage as Expedia would. Expected much more especially after reading the reviews. read more

I used Jessica at McCabe World Travel to book a family vacation to Atlantis in the Bahamas. The best decision ever to go through a travel agent. When we arrived, we had a nicer room than what we reserved. She knew about numerous resorts in the Caribbean and pointed us in the perfect direction to not only keep our sons entertained, but to also give us the parents the experience we needed. She really knows alot that you can't get just by researching it online. That first hand knowledge and the service is worth going through a travel agent. Contacted McCabe as they were so highly rated. Started off well until I asked for a few details on the basics of my trip and was told I needed to pay 400$ for it. When I questioned that, the conversation deteriorated to the point of the agent actually yelling at me and hanging up on me. Shocking. I actually thought I was just clarifying things. I used McCabe World Travel based on superlative reviews in Travel & Leisure to help us plan a two-week Regent Seven Seas cruise. Unfortunately, this agency and specifically our agent, Beth Jenkins, were absolutely zero value added for our recent two-week cruise. We paid top dollar for this trip but I was the one who made most of the plans because the agent was not proactive to help plan any aspect of our trip. It appeared that her job existed for her own travel -- not ours! In addition, all communications were passively sent by email -- not once did she bother to pick up the phone and make suggestions or ask questions to improve our travel experience. The topping on the cake was that I learned on the final leg of our journey that Beth did not even bother to submit our mileage rewards numbers in order to receive air miles for our flights! read more

Do not use this agency! I never write reviews but i couldn't help myself this time. Damian, i think the owner, is extremely RUDE and pretentious, this company only want clients that have an unlimited budget, don't care if they are getting ripped off and have no idea if they are provided good recommendations, which they aren't. Two months of my time was wasted before they said that they are not the right travel agency for me, because i wanted the same price as expedia for the same room and hotel they were booking. I had a very reasonable budget for a trip to Europe but Damian wouldn't have know that because he/she never asked what it was. I was passed back and forth between multiple agents so no ever figured out what i want in a trip. They provided no "expertise" so don't let them fool you into thinking that they provide a "special experience" like they claim. You're better off on tripadvisor because these people know nothing. Save your time and money, now after wasting two months of my time the prices have increased and i have to pay more for my hotels. read more

I've used McCabe for years for all my cruise travel. They know the ships and cruises lines because they've traveled on them. They can provide excellent advice on hotels and transportation as well. We had a great day-long outing to Ephesus several years ago set up by Virtuoso, an organization of the top 1% of travel agents (and of which McCabe is a member). We were on the Regent Seven Seas Navigator, and our complimentary tour was organized by Virtuoso. We had a charter bus, excellent tours of the ruins at Ephesus, and a lovely lunch with entertainment at a hotel overlooking the harbor at Kusadasi, Turkey. Anne was our regular agent until she became President of McCabe, and Jessica has helped us ever since. They're both outstanding. We've used them for cruises in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Norwegian coast, Panama Canal, and Pacific coast. They're the best travel service I've used, and what' even better is they're local to those of us in the McLean area. read more
