We stayed at McBee Cottages #37. Check in was contactless (nice during a pandemic). They texted us 30 min beforehand with check in instructions - easy and fast. The people who we spoke to prior to our stay were super helpful. They found us a hotel room that accommodated to our family's needs. They were patient and nice to speak with. There was plenty of parking outside our cottage. I liked the outdoor area where there was a propane bbq, fire pit, and chairs to hang out. The ambiance really catered to families or for people who are traveling with friends. The room in itself was very spacious. I could tell that they tried really hard to make us feel safe in that they cleaned everything thoroughly. For example, the hair dryer was wrapped in plastic wrap. I was so impressed with how large the cottage was. There was a living room, bathroom, kitchen and a room with a door. The tv had Netflix and Amazon prime (that was awesome). I loved the kitchen feature because when we got sick of eating out, we were able to cook our own meals. They provided all the basic necessities to cook a meal. The location of the cottages is perfect. It is located in the heart of town and about a 2 min walk to the beach. Every day, we just had to walk a couple of steps and we would see the beach and the iconic Cannon Beach rock. The minor things that I didn't like about this place was that the bathroom vent didn't exist/odor. I believe the cottages allow pets so there was a bad odor that existed in the bathroom. We could never get rid of the smell. The unit is also older so some of the flooring was cracked. Also, at night it gets really cold and the heat from the living room doesn't travel easily to the bedroom so it gets really cold. However, the staff were very accommodating in getting us more blankets. The fireplace was great in helping heat the place too. But aside from these few minor issues, we would definitely stay here again. We had a lovely stay. read more

Be AWARE this place is not a cottage setting at all! This is a ran down old motel over priced, dirty and with outdated uncomfortable accommodations. My family and I stayed here over this New Years holiday. The room was dirty, filled with cobwebs and old dirty stain marks in the walls. The walls are paper-thin that you can hear all the other guests noises right in your room. The floor have caved in and the bed is slated down in the headboard while the foot of the bed is higher. The pillows were worn out and very uncomfortable. The front room light shines through the door window and allows no sleep at all during the night. The tiny bathroom allows no comfortable seating in the toilet as the sink is right next in top of it. Dissatisfaction and disappointment are not even enough to describe the horrific experience we had here. If you care for a clean, comfortable and safe stay this is not your destination place. dont stay in room 28. i do not know if every room was like this but randomly the bar next to the shower kept falling off despite it being seemingly secure in place. the hot and cold is in reverse in the shower which can be quite jarring, the fireplace never seems to turn off nomatter what you do there is always a small fire in it probably due to a small gas leak. kitchen sink is tiny, smaller than the bathroom sink, if you are expected to wash dishes in it then why can you not fit the dishes youre meant to wash into it. just avoid this place. read more

We really enjoyed our 2-night stay at McBee Cottage #35. It was the perfect location to be able to walk to everything in town and just a block to the beach to watch the sunset over Haystack Rock. For the two of us it was the perfect size with just the right amenities. The bed was super comfortable and we appreciated having a dedicated parking spot right out our front door for easy loading/unloading and access. The price was fair for such a wonderful location. Spending Christmas week here. Cute room, with a gas fireplace for ambiance. Cleverly arranged tv that pivots for viewing in the front room, or towards the bedroom. Nice kitchen, as well. Overall a bit funky, to be expected of something built 80+ years ago, but clean and quiet, and I actually much prefer it to the sterile McMotel options. A very short walk to the beach. Have to give a shout-out to Tre and Jennifer at the office. Gracious, funny, and excellent human beings. Extremely enjoyed their service when we stopped by for a complimentary glass of wine. Cute and clean with a few nice extras! We stayed in their basic room which had a full sized bed, small table and TV. We had our dog with us, and they gave us a little welcome bucket with doggy rules, an extra towel to wipe sandy paws, a blanket, a food/water dish, and a milkbone. Most places charge you a pet fee ($15) and that's that. While the shower was a bit small and room space was at a premium for our bags and walking room, we'd happily stay here again. Good pricing, clean, maid service prompt and during the hours they say they will be there...plus it's just a few houses from the beach. The only negative is that they don't want you to leave your dog unattended so you have to plan around that, and there's no cable, so you have to walk a block to the registration desk and get a dvd to watch (but it's free, so who cares?). Would happily stay here again, the price was perfect. We've had to pay a lot more to stay in a lot lesser places. read more

It was our first time in Oregon and loved our visit to this area. Cute older motel that's within a block of the beach and easy walking distance to downtown. Front desk staff was very friendly, had a comfortable bed and small kitchen. They have a gas fireplace that will be great once it gets cold, but it didn't have any A/C which we weren't expecting, I apparently missed that when I was booking our room. We were there in August, so the rooms warmed up in the afternoon, so be prepared to leave the windows open, especially during the night which might be an issue for some people. The room next to us had their dog with them which we could hear through the bedroom wall when it barked, which didn't happen very often. read more

I was traveling up the Oregon Coast with Ellie, it was late, dark and time to make an unplanned stop. I booked online, But reserved the wrong dates, by a whole month. My mistake. Claudia, the owner, found a room for me and Ellie in the McBee Cottages, last one. The hotel manager came back to work, after hours, just to check me in and correct the problem. I'm really impressed. I bought a LivingSocial deal for my Mum for Christmas to the McBee Cottages and we used it this weekend. We fell in love with Cannon Beach - it is a beautiful, little seaside town and there is miles to walk on the beach. The cottages are very similar to the pictures on here and on the website. We stayed in Cottage 30 and were pleasantly surprised by the use of space and the fact that it actually was ONE block from beach access (they do not have a ocean view though). The cottage was small, but cozy and we made good use of the fire in the winter weather. Added bonus, they are pet-friendly (for $15 a stay)! They greet your pet with a Woof Amenity bucket, which was cute - the only sad part was that it wasn't addressed for my dog (who's name they had asked for on booking). It included a bone, towel, blanket, doggy bags, and a dish. Be warned though, while Cannon Beach itself is dog-friendly, most restaurants do not let dogs inside, so if you want to eat with your furry baby (and McBee has a policy that you are not allowed to leave your pet unattended in the rooms), you have to eat on the decks - which can be cold in the winter! Pros: -Close to the beach. -Cute, cozy cottages -Pet-friendly and greeted with a bucket of doggy fun. Cons: -Our cottage wasn't ADA suitable - shower is about half a foot off the ground and is very small. -Front desk girl was informative, but brisk - she acted as though she was too busy to answer our questions. -The regular price is very expensive, especially for the winter and the lack of services offered (no housekeeping after 2pm, no desk service after 10pm, requirement to clean up after yourself). -Cottages and garden are very close to the road - there is a hedge, but maybe an added trellis/hedge would help to make the property feel more private - we felt that we wouldn't be comfortable using the fire pit in the summer, due to the closeness of the road and the lack of privacy. Overall, the cottages are very cute and quaint, pet-friendly, and close to the beach. However, due to the price, we probably would not stay at the McBee Cottages again unless we got another deal - $159 a night to stay by the beach is a little too expensive for what's offered. read more

Just got back from our stay at McBee cottages. They were competitively priced and were everything we could have needed for our quick jaunt to the coast. Seeing how this was our first hotel stay with our puppy, we were excited to see the cute dog basket that not only made us smile but was full of functional amenities (poop bags available the entire time on site, very helpful). Yes, the entire place is small but adorable and it's easy to navigate it for your stay. We enjoyed watching some DVDs we checked out from the hotel at night and spending each morning moseying down to the ocean for a nice, long walk. The beach is maybe a 45-second walk away? All in all a great little spot. My only complaint would be the $10 cleaning fee for unwashed items in the kitchen. I have no problems cleaning our dishes (and did!), I just would like to think that the hotel staff made sure they were clean before my arrival and not the prior guests who may or may not have washed them very well. Other than that, a great little place. Not super fancy but adorable and perfect for its price. PS dealing with Bonnie for check-in was lovely. She had superb customer service. Cozy and comfortable inn. Stayed two nights in the Mcbee cottages, room 36. Enjoyed the stay very much. When we checked in we were greeted with coffee and fresh chocolate chip cookies. The receptionist was very welcoming and knowledgeable of the area. Our room was great. The bed was plush and inviting. The big tv and cable was a nice suprise. Housekeeping does a great job. The room was small, but I knew this when I booked. Although it was small, for the price it's a great deal. The ice machine on site was also convenient. 2 things that would make things better: 1) A mini fridge. We didn't really need one, but it would have been a nice touch. 2) A/C. The room did have a fan available, but A/C would have made things more comfortable. Looking forward to staying again. read more

This place surprised me - such a great location, less than one block from the beach close to pretty much everything in town, such friendly staff and the cottages itself have so much potential, yet it seemed like somehow they're the neglected step children. (Although maybe the rooms in the main hotel aren't as nice as they look in the pictures either, it's hard to tell). The website says that the cottage we stayed in, #37, is "not yet renovated", a piece of information that is easily overlooked since this cottage is more expensive than #28, the other "McBee cottage grand" (as opposed to the "classic" and "basic" which only have one room). We didn't expect or need luxury, and totally understand that dog friendly rooms can't have plush carpets, but an old and dirty painted cement floor with a couple of shabby old rugs.... really? There is a fireplace that is oddly positioned opposite the bathroom and it doesn't seem like the chimney has been properly cleaned because even with the flu wide open the room filled with the toxic fumes from the duraflame (real wood is not allowed). There is one dinky heater that barely does the job, and a couple of thin blankets are supposed to keep you warm at night. The microwave and toaster didn't work because the outlets in the kitchen didn't work, when we asked about that someone came over but couldn't fix it and helpfully offered that we could just place them on the (tiny) dining table. The one and only knife in the kitchen meant for cutting was so blunt it was completely useless. On day 2 we realized the fridge was set at the coldest possible temperature, by then all our fruits and vegetables were frozen, and thus ruined. We didn't expect too much in terms of house keeping, but over the 4 days we stayed there someone came once and straightened the bed. Reading back over old reviews none of this should be news to the owner, and I hope she spares herself the trouble of writing another defensive response. Rather I suggest following the recommendation someone made in a review 6 years ago: go to ikea or a place like that, spend a couple hundred dollars to get a decent comforter, a little table for the bathroom to put stuff on, a couple of nicer rugs and new bath towels. Then, pay some attention to details when guest are there and it will truly be a good value that outdoor loving dog owners like ourselves will happily return to year after year. read more

My family and I decided to take advantage of having a Monday off and stayed one night on Sunday. I found the cottages to be quaint and comfortable. The room we stayed in was simple, cozy, and just the right size for me, my husband, and a 2 year old. The bathroom was clean and modern which I liked. I did like the little kitchenette, it helped with a snacky toddler. The bed was clean and somewhat comfortable (nothing is as comfortable as your bed at home). All in all it was a pleasant stay despite the wind and driving rain but it was a cozy atmosphere for us. Plus you can't beat it for $60-70 bucks. read more

I think a lot has changed recently at the McBee cottages, because our experience was nothing like these others' reviews. We stayed in a lovely little cottage room that was incredibly sweet, quiet and comfortable. The room was impeccably clean, and the styling seemed to be a new update- fresh, simple and cute. The shower was fantastic- truly hot water with great pressure. The bed seemed to be brand new and gave us two of our best nights of sleep in recent history. Flat panel TV with cable and a DVD player. Adorable little kitchen fully stocked, champagne & glasses waiting for us upon arrival, heat on when we arrived and a gas fireplace that turned on with the flip of a switch. Having high expectations was our first mistake! Stay away from room #37! This place felt very dirty! There were stains on the carpet and furniture. For $185/night I expect to have a clean place to relax and enjoy. Also, we found it advantageous to meet your neighbors in the adjoining room. You will be listening to their conversations anyway due to the paper thin walls. The bathroom was a joke. Super tiny shower! Wall hung sink that had a kitchen faucet that was too big and practically poured water directly on the floor. The first night there the DVD player broke. We were told that it would be replace the following morning. We had already rented two movies. The new DVD player never showed up. Instead, we received a note indicating that they would reimburse us if we wanted to rent a DVD player. We had been out all day and the rental store was already closed. The "customer service"..... The manager was somewhat helpful, but he didn't make up for the woman normally behind the desk. She actually blamed us for having too high expectations! I would highly recommend steering clear of the McBee cottages. Unless, of course, you have low expectations. read more

Great find in a Groupon for two nights for $143 - just in time for our trip down the Oregon coast. Great little place - we were in a "grand" suite - full kitchen w/ separate bedroom, living room and bath. Very clean (and we weren't even in one of the updated rooms) and comfortable. Short walk to the beach - great for our basset hound, Cheers, who was beloved by every shop owner in town! Several people told me the Cannon Beach is a dog town - awesome! (PS - kids... not so much!) We are in love with Cannon Beach and we'll be back to McBee Cottages for sure. read more

Our stay met our needs completely, our bed was SO comfy. Great front desk service at separate facility where you pick up keys. Fireplace with logs provided for cozy night fires. Cottages are close to Haystack Rock, steps from the beach & about quarter mile from the Main Street where all the cute shops & restaurants are. Other galleries, coffee shops, etc one block over. We stayed in one of the end larger cottages with a separate bedroom and small kitchen, perfect for a family who needs a bit more space. However, there was a odd smell that permeated the living room area. We sprayed the air freshener & opened windows which helped. Nice & bright, enjoyed the plentiful space & so appreciate the dog friendly status. We'd gladly stay here again, great value & excellent location. read more

We only stayed one night so we picked the smallest room, which is pretty darn small, but not a problem for a couple and a dog for a night. I came to Cannon Beach for a friend's wedding in June, no less and we did not have a huge amount of money at the time especially for a June wedding at the coast since everything costs double the price and to book a room you have to pay in full just to make the reservation even. So we waited until, of course, the last minute. I was so happy when I found these cottages because there were like two rooms available and one of them was their half room that is basically a bed and a bathroom - there is no room for much else since the room was situated very strangely. That was all we needed though since we would be out at the wedding beach house most of the weekend partying with friends. The room was cheap - like $60 per night because of its size etc. It was clean and besides seeming a touch on the old side I cannot even remotely complain. I loved the courtyard and the cottages themselves are very cute - right in the heart of Cannon Beach. read more

First stay at McBee Cottages. The proximity to the beach was fantastic. Simple walk North or South on Hemlock where shops/restaurants are located. Staff were friendly and helpful. We were in room #32, which was nice because it had a kitchenette. Simply for perspective, the rooms are smaller than a typical hotel room, which wasn't that big of a deal. However, if you aren't at the beach or in town, room #32 became a bit claustrophobic for us because looking out the back windows, there was a tall green hedge, and out the front windows, you could see the trunk of tree, a fence that the garbage bins were behind, and a small slice of the parking area. The first two days we were fine, but by the end of our third day - we felt a bit confined - and we spent quite a bit of time at the beach and in town. While we had gone to CB for a getaway, unfortunately we both had to still work a bit on our computers and jump on Zoom calls. Connection to the internet was definitely a problem. We had to walk around town until we were able to find a strong enough connection which wasn't ideal. Of course, we wish we didn't have to rely on an internet connection while at the beach - but we had to. I do realize when you're at the beach, wifi access may not be the greatest in general. I just feel it's something to note in the event you need to have a strong connection. As a result of feeling a bit confined and lack of wifi connection, we left a day early. We would probably look to stay somewhere else. If you don't need wifi, and are ok with the room situation, McBee Cottages might work for you! read more

This is definetely a "cottage". We stayed in unit #37, which was not a newly remodeled unit. I had expected what was shown online in the pics, however, this was not the case. The floor had no carpet and the 2 rugs it did have that covered the pianted cement floor were very dirty. I have a 9 month old and this place was definetely not baby friendly. We also had to do our own exterminating upon arrival killing 3 large spiders when we walked in and multiple knats and flies throughout our stay I used a groupon to stay here and although the unit was roomy, there were a lot of little things that they could add to make this unit just so much more nice. I was glad I had not paid full price. By going to Ikea and spending about $100, they could have a nice floor mat at the the front door to wipe your feet, a coat rack by the door to hang your wet coats(there is no closet space), a small shelf unit in the bathroom(there is no counter space for anything) and then add some local art to the completely bare walls and a small alarm clock in the bedroom. I doubt I would stay here again even with a groupon. Some positives were that you got a free log in the fire each night, DVD player, free wi-fi(which they didn't advertise online) great outdoor space with firepit, and super close to beach. Overall I just wish the owners tooks a little more pride in keeping up this property! read more

Disappointing. Stayed here with my father over spring break. We were really excited to stay here because it was a cute little 1-br cabin with a full bedroom and a pull-out bed, fireplace, mini-kitchen, and full bath. Seemed nice enough. You check in down the road at their head office, the Cannon Beach Hotel. Our rate was over $120 per night. Caretakers were plenty nice. Got to our little room. Sadly, the one we requested was right on the road. My mistake when booking reservations. So we got to listen to traffic, and gawk back at the people rudely staring into our windows as they walked by. Bathroom - quite nice. my favorite part of the hotel. Kitchen - worked out just fine. Mini-stove and oven. 3/4ths sized fridge. Just enough dishes to go around. Dining room - nothing exciting. Table wobbly. Living room - Couch was stained to disgusting-high-heaven. I couldn't stand to look at it. I know pets are allowed here, so my imagination ran wild with what could possibly be the giantic, disgusting blob right where my head would rest. Seriously...water stains, what looked like smashed-in cheeto's (fingernail polish maybe?)... it was nasty. Kept it covered with a sheet or blanket the entire week. Didn't want to look at it, let alone touch it. Next..the fireplace. Much to mine and my father's surprise, this was officially the first fireplace we had ever seen in our combined years that produced ZERO HEAT. Apparently, the McBee cottages have mastered the art of the cold fire. Completely worthless for warming next to, or drying ocean-soaked clothing. Mostly just turned it on for ambiance. Second note about the fireplace - I don't know if there was a gas leak or what, (and you might think i'm crazy for saying it..) but there was this incredible high-pitched squeal that came out of it... constantly. Even with the flames off. My 50+ year old father, bless his heart, could not hear it... which made me think maybe I was going crazy, but I've concluded he's just old. It came and went, changed its pitch, and generally drove me INSANE. It hurt to listen to that for 5 days. Okay, on to the fold-out bed: A joke. I've been on many-a fold-out beds, and this was by far the worst. Anyone who's been in a sinking, paper-thin mattress probably knows what i'm talking about. no further explination needed. TV worked fine. Bedroom - After complaining to the father about my sleepless night on the pull-out bed (thanks to squealing fireplace, traffic, and worthless excuse for a bed), I switched to the bedroom. Very cute. VERY uncomfortable. Basically it was one big rock with a sheet on top of it, joined by 2 little rocks that were supposed to be pillows. I was up every single night for at least 2 hours trying to get comfortable, all the while clenching my teeth and muttering under my breath "just wait until i get home and log into yelp..... you'll get it, McBee room 28!!" Suffice to say, I did not sleep well this trip. Needless to say, I am saddened by this little place. I really wanted to like it. They've done a mostly good job making it look nice. But with all the issues I had... not worth the price tag. read more

I recently took advantage of a Living Social deal that let us stay at one of the Cannon Beach Motel properties and we ended up at McBee Cottages because it offers dog friendly lodging. I never know what to expect when I stay in a dog friendly room because sometimes they can be down right scary with the filth and air freshener used to cover up the smell of wet dog. I was a little nervous when we parked in front of our room as the exterior is rather weathered. What a lovely surprise to open the door to our room and find a clean, bright, and very functional suite to spend a few days in. The room was light and bright, had a great gas fireplace to enjoy and a kitchenette that was equipped with the basics. The bathroom was clean and updated, although the single stall shower was on the cozy side (read small). There is a little grassy courtyard out front with picnic tables, chairs and a fire pit. The cottages are on the beach side of 101 you don't have to cross a busy street to get to the ocean. We walked the block to the beach and easily found two paths that take you over the sand dunes to get to the water. Most people we came across had their dogs on leash so our beach walks were very pleasant, especially since the sun decided to come out most of the time we were there. Our stay was great, except for one wretched eating experience at the Sweet Basil Cafe and Wine Bar, won't be back there again! Better to walk up the street to the Irish Table for a fantastic dinner or The Sleepy Monk Cafe for delicious coffee. My only reason for not giving 5 stars was the hard to get past buzzing noise the TV made when playing a movie. We brought a few Netflix to enjoy but the random buzz made it impossible, so we read books by the fire instead. Overall, a great experience and I would go back to McBee again. read more

We have young kids and a dog and there is a vast difference in types of places you can stay that accomodate everyone. The Cannon Beach Hotel has a sister property called McBee cottages that takes dogs so we booked there. I would not recommend this place or any of it's properties to anyone! We arrived on a friday night to find our room literally had what looked like squished in dog poop on the carpet in 3 places. Disgusting! My husband went to the lobby in the Cannon Beach Hotel and the person he spoke with switched us to the room next door. It was smaller than the one we paid for, had no fireplace and smelled bad. I went back to the lobby again. The front desk receptionist told me they had no other available rooms for a dog. My husband had asked if they would clean the first room but she wasn't willing to do that. It would have needed a carpet cleaning for sure. I asked for a refund to find another hotel and she said absolutely NO cancellations. So we lost $325 for a 2 night stay that we didn't stay. She would not give me a refund even though they had no suitable accomodations. What a waste of money and what horrible customer service! They obviously have never heard of trying to retain customers. The fact that they couldn't even provide a clean room for my family is unacceptable. I will be sure to discuss this experience with everyone I know that is going to Cannon Beach to ensure they do not stay at these facilities. read more

We loved this place! I am not sure what the other reviewers are talking about. Its a cottage not the Ritz Carlton! Not that we had low expectations either. Our room, #37 was great, it was clean and comfortable, the bed was also comfortable. It is 1/2 block from the beach and they don't gouge you on price either. I go to Canon beach for the beach and this place delivers. I will definitely stay here again. read more
