First two times were terrible. Third times a charm! When McAlister's opened 9 years ago, I went twice and was NOT impressed. I have not been back since. Glenda talked me into going yesterday. What a difference! I got the choose 2. I picked the Italian sandwich and chicken and dumplings soup. The soup was good, but the Italian sandwich was amazing! The bread was so fresh and soft. There was plenty of meat and veggies. I would definitely get this again. There were lots of dirty tables, but employees were working as fast as possible. They were very busy at lunchtime. For the moment, my opinion has changed. We'll see how the next visit goes! read more

I eat at home, even before Covid, but the atmosphere is nice for a date, or a laid back hang with friends. I've ordered a Spud with everything, a Salad, Sandwiches to my liking, and the Soups...all Yum! Folks will complain about anything, but the one time an entree got messed up, they made it right, and it was delicious. McAlister's Deli is my favorite Deli in Abilene! read more

I ordered the deluxe nachos and had asked to have the tomatoes, onions and olives taken off and they did the opposite. it's truly not that hard to complete a task and not only did they not take off the stuff i wanted, my food was COLD like it had been left out the whole time. i also saw cooks not using gloves. read more

The food is great. The atmosphere is calm and upbeat. The service is good and there are a lot of healthy food options.

This place has gone downhill, fast. While the food itself is fine- the horrible service makes the whole experience terrible. The front register people are slow- and even worse- rude! We were in there tonight, walked up and said hello to the lady at the register, also asking how she was doing tonight. Guess this was unacceptable- because she rudely retorted "good," then proceeded to deal with the drive through and not sure what else- while we awkwardly stood there. Then, she finally stopped- and asked the lady BEHIND us, if she had a pick up order- still never have spoken to us. My husband and I were more confused at the incident than anything. The fact of whether she was busy or not (which there was one customer besides the three of us on line in the whole restaurant)- is not the problem. She was rude from the moment we walked in. Plus- they quit giving a military discount. We will stick to Jason's Deli from here on. Eating out is too expensive to be treated like an inconvenience. read more

First time coming to this awesome deli sandwich restaurant. Very welcoming, great music and the staff was super positive. The food was great. I like that they brought your entree out to you. The manager asked how I was liking everything. Which I like that. Customer service was exceptionally great. Clean and positive atmosphere. I went during lunch which it was busy but food came out hot and didn't take long to get. Before I left I was asked if I need a refill which is super awesome. This will be my last McAlister's review as I plan on not going back anymore. As I've said before, with all the competition for high dollar sandwiches that they would have to step up their A game. However, they decided not to bring even a D game, just a horrible experience. Their were literally four customers and one was already eating and we had to wait almost 20 to 30 minutes for our sandwiches. The sandwiches were just par or maybe a little under for the price. The only highlight was our front cashier reminding the kitchen to bring our food up. Lackluster on every other part of the experience. Disappointing. read more

Craving something different, I decided to give this place another try. (Last visit was a sodium-bomb.) I ordered the Pecanberry salad. It is fresh greens, quartered strawberries, plump, firm, blueberries, candied pecans, topped with thin sliced grilled chicken, served with two portions of fat-free raspberry dressing. I really enjoyed it and will get it again before it's discontinued for the season. I almost ate it all and yet wasn't stuffed. read more

I hate to say it, but I had a similar experience to many of the one-star reviews here. I'm a huge fan of McAlister's and have been for years. They are always busy, have great food, and great service, so I was shocked when I decided to grab dinner here while on a business trip and found the place almost empty at 5 p.m. I waited for 10 minutes behind the one person in line while I watched at least three employees walk by and talk with one another or simply stock empty tea jugs on a shelf. When it was my turn, and I wanted to pick up an online order (already paid for), it took at least another five minutes for them to figure out the one order in the kitchen window was mine -- even after I pointed it out to the clerk. The clerk even asked others for help, and no other employee stepped forward to help. Bottom line: Don't give up on McAlister's but skip this one when in Abilene. read more

They only get one stars because I like their food. That's IT. The entire place needs to be fired and they need to start over new with staff. It takes a ridiculous amount of time to get your food. 30 min is way too long at this type of establishment. Every single time I have called to place a pick up order it's like the person I am talking to can hardly comprehend the word salad. They are slow, act confused and lost. I ordered a Cesar salad once, she says "do you want Cesar dressing on your Cesar salad?" No Becky, I want ranch on my Cesar salad... really??? What's the point of ordering a Cesar salad if you don't want Cesar dressing on your Cesar salad? I say light ice please and they fill it to the top every single time. And why can't they split checks at the drive up window? Why can't you pick up multiple orders any pay separately. This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. read more

We finally tried Mcallister's and I had the pot roast sandwich and my wife had the Cesar chicken wrap. We also had their country potato soup. The soup was great but the sandwiches were so-so. I would eat here again but I wouldn't go out of my way to come and eat here. Hope this helps. read more

Very disappointed in the potato soup. It was like potato water! The staff at the pick up window was very kind.

I hate to give any McAlister's a two star rating because I'm kind of a fan. When my wife suggested McAlister's this evening I was up for that because a spud ole sounded great. We arrived at 6:30 and there was one couple at the register and one ahead of us. They weren't crowded at all. So I was surprised when, just before we got to the register, they pulled the special kale & cheese soup off along with the potato soup. I don't recall what my wife tried to order (because those were her 1st and 2nd choices), but she was told there would be a twelve minute wait, so she shifted to yet something else. I ordered a spud ole with a Savannah salad and I was told that there would be a twelve minute wait on the potato. At 6:40 pm with people lining up behind us and they are out of two different soups and have a twelve minute wait on two different common items? While we were at the register, one order was being returned because it was incorrect. After we were seated and waiting on our food, I saw another order returned. So, our 2nd and 3rd choice orders go in at 6:40 and at 6:55 we are still sitting and waiting on food to be served. That might fly at a nice restaurant where we have soup or a salad while waiting - but we are waiting on soup and salad. It's not terrible, but not great. The young man that brought out food was great however and there was no problem with the food itself - just really poor management it would seem to be at the prime time in the evening and be out of items and not have other staple menu items - like potatoes - ready. Definitely not up to McAlister's normal standards. Rate this trip disappointing. read more

The staff here is not very considerate. They do not answer the phones. When they do they answer you can hear them talking and they hang up on you. If you are lucky enough to get through, you can hear someone saying "just hang up on them" while you are trying to place your order. There is no respect from the staff. They also answer your calls and without telling you place you on a hold. They then after 10-15 minutes just hang the phone up. The app is also very glitchy and does not work well. So this is not working in their favor, but they could at least give other human beings some respect. The staff should be better trained on how to handle phone calls and talking to customers. Since there's so many good options, I usually get the choose 2 where you can get half portions of both. A lot of their items are moderately low in calories compared to other fast casual restaurants. Ordered 3 of the French dip sandwiches for family. All 3 of them were not fit to eat. Not only was it dried out tasteless meat it was VERY tough. Will never order that again. Not sure we will go back. Last time we had take out from there we were shorted several items. Didn't go back to get the missing items because it's just too far and a hassle. I use to really like McAlisters but they need tending to their menu and serve better quality food....at least better French dips. read more

This restaurant (and several other McAlister Delis) was owned by Southwest Deli group, but sold to Sun Holdings in July. They have NOT paid their invoices for services that were provided to them. The store manager at this Abilene location tried to help. I gave him a copy of two invoices that McAlister's owes for. A while back a gentleman contacted me and said we would get paid in two weeks. It has been over four months, and it is clear they would rather cheat a vendor out of money and switch services then pay the money they owe for services they received by a vendor they used since day one. Take your hunger and money to an honest restaurant that doesn't cheat people out of money. read more

We have tried to eat here several times and every time we say we are never coming back. Today was the final time. 1st the outside... so much bird poop and feathers it was so nasty. Then the front door looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. No one has cleaned this place in so long and it shows. I'm terrified to know what the kitchen looked like.
