Quiet park with great accomodations. The lake is clear and beautiful. Boating and fishing are enjoyed by many.

Pretty clean park. I love the picnic shelters that you can rent for birthday parties.

Little River Regional Park and Natural Area

Little River Regional Park is a nice little spot that is actually a cooperative project between…read moreDurham and Orange counties and situated a bit outside of the hustle and bustle of the triangle area. The park is not huge, but it does offer roughly 7-8 miles each of hiking trails and mountain biking trails (not too shabby!). There is also a butterfly garden, group campsite, playground, and picnic area on site so most of your bases are covered if you want to have either a leisurely or intense afternoon out in the park. My first time at the park I was pretty shocked that such a natural area could exist just off of Guess Road (yes, the character of Guess Road here differs greatly from that near the I-85 exit in Durham). This park is quiet, uncrowded, well-maintained and very serene. I have never taken on the mountain biking trails myself, but I've heard that they're in tip-top shape, single track, and pretty challenging the further you get away from the trailheads. Presumably like these mountain bike trails, the hiking trails are very well-maintained, well marked, and at least a step up from an easy stroll in the park at most parts. The trails offer nice views of both the North and South Rivers, and they're loop trails which is always a plus! Per the park's brochures, hikers can also hike the mountain bike trails but must yield to cyclists and be aware of their surroundings. For the runners out there, there is also a Little River trail run each year (7K and 10 mile distances) with proceeds benefiting the park itself. Maybe knowing that you're helping to sustain a beautiful natural area will make running 10 miles in January less painful? I have my doubts... If you're willing to take a trek a bit down Guess Road, this is definitely a park worth checking out!

Lovely park with gorgeous trails. Quieter than Eno with good maintenance, frequent benches, and…read moreaccessible bridges.

This is a great walking trail in the heart of rockingham county, Wentworth. It's right next door to…read morethe old Chinqua Penn mansion, which is now closed. The parking lot is semi well lighted but they do close the trail at night. Not officially like with a gate or anything, but I wouldn'r stay out there after dark because there is no lighting on the trail. During the walk, you'll get to see a pond, koi pond, cows, water fall and most likely a lot of critters. Dogs are always welcome there leashed. We take our German Shepherd on walks there and she loves it. We let her play in the creek during the hike. I believe it's 1.5 miles total. I wouldn't say it's a hard hike by any means, but there are some hills throughout. They do have benches in case you need to take a break. Very pretty and a great place to relax and get some steps in.

Everything appeared well maintained and clean which was lovely. There are benches throughout the pathway where you may enjoy some sightseeing. Do stay hydrated during the hotter days, there are no shortcuts back to the parking lot. It is one way in and one way out that loops for roughly 1.6 miles. Overall a great experience. The life guards were very attentive. This is the perfect summer time activity or even date. We brought a cooler with sandwiches and Gatorade, you'll def want to utilize that perk of bringing your own cooler. I really like that you also can buy admission without waterpark access , different strokes for different folks! Everyone's covered and considered in their ticketing

Gives them an opportunity to earn some money during the season. We got the aquabana as they call it, for half a day (4 hours) and it was worth it ! We didn't swim but the kids did and they had a blast! You're able to bring a cooler with food and drinks ( juice, tea, soda, water. No alcohol) they have a food truck on site, as well as a "dirty soda" stand. Flavored sodas with cream (very popular in Utah but slowly making their way to the east coast) as well as a first aid bungalow. Everyone gets a life vest but kids under 18 MUST wear theirs at all times! I like that rule! Keeps the kids safe. Of course the teens working there are certified lifeguards just in case! They also offer scuba classes/lessons at the quarry. Would I come back? YES! Maybe one day I would try the courses and swim or paddle board but the go around it was nice relaxing and letting the kids live carefree in the lake!
