Baby flounder with slaw and rice
    Mary W.

It's been several years since we stopped here but today we made a special trip. This restaurant offers a very pleasant dining experience. The facility appears to be clean and well maintained. The seating is very comfortable as well. Of course their specialty is seafood but there are several other options available. They offer wine by the glass and although there are only 6 to choose from they cover 6 different types - Chardonnay, 2 types of Pinot, Cabaret Sauvignon, moscato, Zinfandel but no Merlot or Malbec. They also offer beer but since I'm not a beer drinker I can't comment on that other than there are 5 or 6 options to choose from. We had a very sweet waitress, Jasmine, who was very helpful. She suggested the fried green beans, which I tried and thought they were really good. We rarely eat fried food so we just aren't used to it but thought the baby flounder was good. We requested dark side flounder because it's so much meatier and they accommodated that request at no additional charge. I don't recommend the iced tea. I always make mine with filtered water and theirs I'm guessing is made with tap water so I can taste the difference. Next time I will plan to order soda instead. They are located right off of Hwy 52 with easy access.

    Lunch!

Great seafood. Flounder is awesome. Very clean and nice interior. Wait staff is excellent. Highly recommend.

Tuesday lunch special, price is $5.99

I know that credit/debit card companies charge a fee to businesses every time a customer charges a bill. I did a search and learned typically the fee is 1.3 to 3.5% . Well, I recently learned that this restaurant charges each customer 7% on top of their bill when u use a credit or debit card. Interestingly, this is NOT itemized on the receipt therefore u have no idea that you're paying double or more for using your card. This is unfair if not illegal. Why would they double the fee amount? It amounts to pure greed! I have no problem with a nominal fee to recoup what the credit card company charges, but doubling the fee is uncool. Then, to hide the activity by saying nothing and not accounting for it on the receipt makes it worse. So the $5.99 special becomes &6.99! To take it a step further, they leave the tax amount off the receipt as well so u can't figure out what they are charging for the fee; very underhanded!

The food is pretty good and the portions are large. The grilled Cajun salmon is my favorite. The Mac and cheese is delicious.

When we walked in for dinner it was crowded so we sat at the bar and ate our dinner. As it turned out this was the place to be. The bartender is quite good at his craft. It was fun to see him make and Old Fashioned with the fanfare of the smoked drink under glass. Then someone ordered a cherry Manhatten with a smokey bubble in the glass which popped when presented. I was impressed as I had never seen that technique before. I'm totally ordering again next time I come! Behind me was a long table and on top shooting flames enclosed in a long glass fireplace. Really quite a centerpiece with people dining around each side of it. I wanna bring my friends and sit in front of it, so cool! I ordered a petite filet that was tender and delicious, just the right size when you don't want a huge meal. I ordered a grilled romaine stock as a side. It was better than Ive had in the past. Lightly oiled and grilled not charred. I ordered a baked potato as my side to go w my filet. Quite pleased w my choices. The environment is cozy and the staff and guests are friendly. Next time I'm in King this is where Im going!

So make sure you arrive a few minutes early for your reservation just for parking sake. The space, however, is beautiful inside. Very roomy and dark, romantic vibes. I also love the little fireplace along the long table in the front. Our service was also exceptional. Our waiter made great recommendations and was very accommodating. Isaac was a true gem. The food was really outstanding for a steakhouse in little ol King. We started with bread service but they served it with cold butter which we all know won't spread well. Easy enough fix. The pot roast nachos could have used more cheese, namely a melty cheese but the roast was cooked expertly. So tender and juicy. The rest of our group thought the calamari was overcooked but I didn't mind it. The crab dip was my favorite app, perfect in every way. My ribeye with Mac and cheese and collard greens was superb. The steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The Mac and cheese was creamy and the collards had a kick to it that I enjoyed. I liked the brownie dessert but it wasn't anything special. My blood orange margarita was also very good. Overall I highly recommend The Mercantile if you want to eat somewhere off the beaten path. I can't wait to bring my husband back for date night!

So, went across the street to The Dalton Bar And Grill! It was a home run. Sat at bar, which was attended by two well experienced bartenders. Started with the Poke Tuna appetizer with fried wontons. It was large enough to be a small entrée and the fried wontons were perfect. For dinner we split a skirt steak with asparagus. A little concerned it would be tender but melted in the mouth. The asparagus was HUGE but cooked perfect. I'm almost leery of posting this because I don't want a million people going to King.

My…read moreprevious experience was underwhelming, but I decided to give the restaurant another opportunity in hopes that it had improved. Unfortunately, this visit fell even shorter of expectations. The food quality was particularly disappointing. The Cajun shrimp Alfredo was excessively heavy and resulted in immediate discomfort, lacking the balance and flavor one would expect from such a dish. The addition of bacon to the dish was a clear misstep, overwhelming the other flavors and contributing to an already overly rich and unbalanced meal. The croissants were equally unsatisfactory--dense, chewy, and overbaked, with a texture and taste suggesting they had not risen properly. Surprisingly, the highlight of the meal was the side salad, which, while fresh, should not have been the most enjoyable component of the dining experience. Overall, I left feeling quite disappointed. Given that both of my visits have resulted in similarly negative experiences, I find it difficult to justify returning.

One of the Worst Dining Experiences I've ever Had…read more I came here for a birthday dinner, and from the start, it was a mess. We were seated at a sticky, filthy table -- it felt like dried soda had been left on it for hours. It took 30-40 minutes for the food to arrive, and even then, multiple entrées for our dinner party were missing. While our waiter seemed like he was trying, the service was chaotic at best. He yelled out food orders and frantically passed plates around the table while sweating bullets. When my chicken sandwich finally arrived, the ciabatta bread was clearly stale, the bacon was overcooked, and the only thing I could taste was canola oil. The fries were cold, and tasted of Canola oil, and easily the worst I've ever had. My husband ordered the double bacon cheeseburger, took one bite, and couldn't finish it. We both felt nauseous for the rest of the evening. I don't know how a restaurant can get it this wrong, but this place was truly a disaster. I would never recommend eating here. Just go to king kitchen.
