Mayflower restaurants have been around for quite awhile, some locations well over 30 years. These restaurants are independently owned and operated and the menus can be a bit different, and the service and food quality can most definitely vary. This location is about 15 years old and its 3.4 Yelp rating is a slight bit better than most of the Mayflower spots. Since I was in the area and a bit hungry, I stopped in for an early lunch. I ordered the Popcorn Shrimp, and this was a nicely fried plate with plenty of tasty shrimp. This is not a destination seafood spot, like Walkertown or Capt Tom's in Kernersville, but more a point of opportunity and convenience place. You generally have a pretty good idea what you're getting in food and service. read more

Mayflower Seafood - Popcorn Shrimp - Seafood Near Me - Rural Hall, North Carolina

I came in to eat dinner with a couple of friends on a Friday evening. Having been here before, I had already decided to order something different, not fried seafood. We were waited on by Ethan and Cohen, both nice guys who did a great job. I ordered lemon-pepper chicken and jumbo shrimp with a side of veggie-medley. First off, the veggies were good. Probably steamed in salted water and somehow not overdone. Whatever the way, for something so simple, the job was done right. The chicken was very flavorful and tender, Very tasty. The shrimp were delicious. It came with a side of Texas toast as well. All of it was good, better than I expected. The guys I ate with seemed to be pleased with their food, and I enjoyed the hush-puppy rings that came with the table. Successful dinner. Good stuff. I'm sure I'll be back. read more

Mayflower Seafood - Lemon pepper chicken and jumbo shrimp - Seafood Near Me - Rural Hall, North Carolina

This is a great seafood restaurant in Rural Hall! I love the crunchy, savory, and sweet hush puppies. My shrimp was fried perfectly, and it was tasty. I loved the classic seaside wooden interior, and spacious dinning room with cozy booths by the large windows to enjoy lunch or dinner. The owner came out and greeted everyone dinning on the floor, Gus is a cool guy! It's a perfect stopover after visiting tractor supply nearby for my chicken feed. read more

I had the lunch special Flounder and popcorn shrimp - tea to drink. The food was adequate. The service was adequate. Nothing special but adequate. The shocker came when I paid . The bill for lunch with reasonable tip.......$18.00 That is way above any expectation I have for having a lunch special. Just sharing! read more

Met a friend for lunch and ordered broiled shrimp and broiled scallops. The shrimp were overcooked although tasty. The scallops were very fishy tasting and smelled fish. Growing up on the coast of Maine when served scallops like this, we would assume they were not fresh. So I could not eat half my entree but had to pay full price. I ordered broiled flounder filet, fried zucchini, and deviled crab to take out. My husband found the flounder not only was dark side, ok with him, but also had scales and pine bones! The zucchinil was soggy. All in all, very disappointing food for $53! The hushpuppies, coffee and ice water were good. Will I return? Are you kidding? read more

We had a party of 8 which became only 5. Our server, Ashley was very nice. It was a party for my son who graduated. We invited some neighbors. My wife and son had the seafood combo platter, his friend the salmon and friends mother popcorn shrimp. They helped put up a graduation banner for me. We got there around 7pm. We got appetizers and beverages. They brought out our salads. They were big ones. However, she came out with our main course a little early before we had time to finish salads. It was ok. We had a nice time and the food was decent. This is a good place in the back off Rte. 52 highway going North. read more

Wanted a 2 item seniors plate but clams was not part of that so I got a regular 2 item plate and waitress told me after I had received the bill that instead of 16.45 mine was 18.45 which the clams showed MP on menu so they charged me 2.00 extra for clams and for a sweet potato they charge 1.00 more which I was not told either!! I went with my brother who goes there regularly but I will not be back!!! I'm a senior and on a fixed income now!!! Pretty sad the waitresses do not inform people in advance because I would not have gotten that!!! read more

It's been several years since we stopped here but today we made a special trip. This restaurant offers a very pleasant dining experience. The facility appears to be clean and well maintained. The seating is very comfortable as well. Of course their specialty is seafood but there are several other options available. They offer wine by the glass and although there are only 6 to choose from they cover 6 different types - Chardonnay, 2 types of Pinot, Cabaret Sauvignon, moscato, Zinfandel but no Merlot or Malbec. They also offer beer but since I'm not a beer drinker I can't comment on that other than there are 5 or 6 options to choose from. We had a very sweet waitress, Jasmine, who was very helpful. She suggested the fried green beans, which I tried and thought they were really good. We rarely eat fried food so we just aren't used to it but thought the baby flounder was good. We requested dark side flounder because it's so much meatier and they accommodated that request at no additional charge. I don't recommend the iced tea. I always make mine with filtered water and theirs I'm guessing is made with tap water so I can taste the difference. Next time I will plan to order soda instead. They are located right off of Hwy 52 with easy access. read more

Mayflower Seafood - Lunch! - Seafood Near Me - Rural Hall, North Carolina

Having lived in NC for years, my friends were all astounded that I'd never been to one of the Mayflower locations. So while out in Rural Hall running some errands, we stopped in for an early dinner. The decor, while dated, has a lot of charm to it, and the dining area itself is very spacious. The service was fantastic! I wish I could remember our server's name, she was delightful and helped us make some food decisions. The food was wonderful (try the mac n' cheese, trust me) and very reasonably priced. Since then, I've brought my parents, and they, too, were impressed. Looking forward to eating here on a more regular basis! read more

The owner is a BITCH do not go here!!! First of all my food came out with hair in it and she said that is "human nature" human nature to have hair in my food?? Are you serious? Then they didn't think my tip amount was "customary" so they wrote a 1 front of the 5 dollar tip I left after they still charged me for the fish with a black hair in it. She couldn't understand why my total didn't add up to what she wrote on the tip line. My total should've been 100 dollars and they charged me 110 because they wrote a 1 in front of the 5 on my tip line. I would've never caught this if I wasn't looking at my bank statement! DO NOT GO HERE! read more

We have eaten at this Mayflower many times and have always been pleased with the service and the food but today was a total let down for service. I am so disappointed. Having a bad experience is one thing but how it is handled by the staff and management is another. We waited entirely too long for our food and we were being patient with that despite having four hungry kids, but in the waiting we were not taken care of. We asked for more hush puppies while we waited and THAT took too long as well. Then, when our food did come out one of the entree's was missing, as well as crackers that were asked for to go with the salad. When this was brought to the managers attention instead of making it right she defended the waitress. After this the waitress came back to our table and when the problem was explained she got an attitude. To make matters worse, when she was called out for her attitude she denied that she had one and then went into the kitchen and started mouthing off to the staff back there about it. At this point a different waitress was sent out to give us our check. Gas prices and inflation are high so we will not tolerate this kind of service especially when it isn't made right. A product (what you sell) can be purchased in many places. What makes you stand out and sets you apart is service, so if you fall short there then you start losing... read more

They are okay. Just your typical seafood restaurant. Be warned too that if you ask extra plate for your young child who eat with you because she can't finish a plate just wasting food and money - you will pay extra dollar for the plate! read more

It may not look great on the outside, but there is plenty of free parking. We were a party of four and service was EXCELLENT. Our waitress took our drinks orders and food order in a timely fashion and had our drinks very quickly. I had the daily special of two, thick-cut pork chops and I could not have been more pleased with my choice. The chops were THICK, juicy and tender. I had them served Cajun style and that too could not have been better. The Cajun seasoning was just right for taste and little spice but in no way overpowering as happens sometimes. There are tons of seating available with booths, tables and festival seating. Plenty of room for large parties. If I'm back through this area, this is where I'm dining. read more

I chose the 2 item dinner - popcorn shrimp and catfish, my wife had the small flounder plate. Both were served 'pipping' hot with slaw and really nice hush puppy rings. I had onion rings (upgraded side) and she had fried zucchini (huge side). There was NO oil flavor noticeable and you could taste the flavor of the entree in each bite. The portion sizes were very large and we both carried take-home boxes with enough for lunch today. The most outstanding thing is their cocktail sauce. I bought a container to bring home to serve with cold shrimp at Thanksgiving. In all, this was a meal well worth the 30+ minute drive from West Winston-Salem (Calvary Baptist Church area). read more

I know that credit/debit card companies charge a fee to businesses every time a customer charges a bill. I did a search and learned typically the fee is 1.3 to 3.5% . Well, I recently learned that this restaurant charges each customer 7% on top of their bill when u use a credit or debit card. Interestingly, this is NOT itemized on the receipt therefore u have no idea that you're paying double or more for using your card. This is unfair if not illegal. Why would they double the fee amount? It amounts to pure greed! I have no problem with a nominal fee to recoup what the credit card company charges, but doubling the fee is uncool. Then, to hide the activity by saying nothing and not accounting for it on the receipt makes it worse. So the $5.99 special becomes &6.99! To take it a step further, they leave the tax amount off the receipt as well so u can't figure out what they are charging for the fee; very underhanded! read more

Mayflower Seafood - Tuesday lunch special, price is $5.99 - Seafood Near Me - Rural Hall, North Carolina

I ordered oysters. After waiting 39 minutes for our food, they arrived stone cold. Baked potato was cold and tasted microwaved, pretty much inedible. Sent oysters back. Got less new oysters than I sent back, but the new ones were warm and better. Hubby's shrimp and oysters were hot and tasty, but his sweet potato was cold, and so old/reheated that the skin was black. To many negative experiences to give a good rating. read more

I rate this place a complete zero. Even after I complained how bad the food was they did NOTHING at all. I am Never going back!!

The food is pretty good and the portions are large. The grilled Cajun salmon is my favorite. The Mac and cheese is delicious.

Stopped by this place to eat. Place looked decent, big dining area, and staff friendly. I had ordered a broiled platter. Food was soggy and bland. I think the meal was frozen and placed in the broiler and just colored with paprika. The water on my plate must have been from parts of my food as it thawed from the heat. Seafood didn't seem like it was good and hot unlike the baked potato. Probably the best tasting item was the hush puppies, baked potato, and slaw. The seafood can use improvement. This was just a disappointment. read more

Oyster stew delicious. Flounder just right. More then enough. Ordered take out..Will definitely come back.

Natalie was my greeter or cashier (nice nice nice) the prices are pretty good and the staff was....proficient....they can put lemon pepper on anything that's a 2star start for me...I got the lemon pepper shrimp fried and salmon under 20 (gtfoh) but for real....the food is great..I mean I'd take an hour drive great...who knew!!!! read more

I live 1/2 mile from Wake Forest University. I drove all the way to rural Hall to get our food from Mayflower. I called the order in first. The food was fresh, hot, and delicious when I got it home!! We had to wait for the corn on the cob to cool down! That is about a 15 minute drive without traffic! I give them five stars! Oh, and Katie who works in the back, where you pick up, she was awesome too! Priceless!!!!! read more

I went here a few months ago when visting NC but never got around to writing the review until after we got back. The restaurant stunk and there were no customers inside. The hostess was real friendly! Unfortunately, thats about the only good thing I can say.. the food tasted rubbery and the plates had bits of crusted food on them. To top it all off the manager yelled at our server in front of us! Save yourself, dont eat here! read more

Just left there good food and nice service and really clean place will go again ty for y'all services!!

Some friends and my family decided to go to this restaurant since they hadn't been to a mayflower in many years. I had read some reviews and was not sure what to expect. When we got to the parking lot about 2:30pm on thursday Dec. 1 there were not many cars in the parking lot. But, two fellows were coming out of the restaurant and spoke up and said that we would enjoy the food! Well they were right. We went in and the place was very clean and the staff very friendly . My friends ordered the daily special fried shrimp and my wife got the senior boiled platter, shrimp and oysters and sweet potato and slaw. I got the broiled combo flounder shrimp oysters scallops deviled crab with the sweet potato and slaw .Hush puppies come with the meal and are on the table as soon as you sit down. We didn't have to wait long for the food to come out. My friends are very picky eaters but we all were very pleased with the food . Cooked just right. I normally don't get desert but asked the waitress what they had. She named off several pies and cakes they had that were made by the staff. I got the pineapple coconut cake and had coffee. It was delicious! We had traveled there from Floyd Va. just to eat at this Mayflower. If I lived closer I would eat there regular. I just wanted folks to know of our great experience at this Mayflower. read more

We have been coming to this restaurant for over 40 years and this is the last. We were seated immediately from that point on it went down hill from there. They usually bring out hush puppies while you wait for your order to come we received none we didn't say anything about that because there's usually enough with the food. I got the Fisherman's plater my wife got grilled salmon with teriyaki sauce and French fries she said the salmon was over cooked that the fries were Better that the salmon. On my fisherman's plater I got one piece of flounder 3 scollops 4 shrimp that were like rubber and the Crab cake was not done when we tried to the waitress she was belligerent. So when we went to pay told the lady at the register about. She said there was nothing she could do she was siding with waitress when I asked for the manager she said she was the manager WE WILL NEVER Go THERE AGAIN and if you are smart you won't either !!!!!! read more

Open on Sunday. Clean bathroom. Pretty much a fried/broiled menu but enough selection for a vegan/vegetarian to piece together a semi-decent meal. They put a plate of hush puppies on the table that were delicious. Food showed up quick. Service was great and our food was perfect. read more

I ordered the fried flounder platter and got the popcorn shrimp kids platter for my son. Neither of us cared much for the hushpuppies (too sweet), but the fish and shrimp were really good. I got a baked potato and my son got fries. They were fine, nothing special. And the slaw was good. Overall, it was just average. Nothing spectacular but nothing bad. Service was fast and courteous as well and the price was mostly reasonable. read more

As much as I really wanted to enjoy some Mayflower Seafood Popcorn Shrimp, I will have to say my recent visit on 10/23/2019 wasn't all that great. The slaw had a slightly off taste to it, almost like some residual cleaning solution was left in the bowl when they made the slaw. And the FF... I have never had the experience I did with my visit. As soon as they hit my mouth, they immediately stuck to the roof of my mouth in a gooey, greasy, globy mess! Perhaps the oil they fried them in needed changing. Or it could have been due to the potato mixing with the odd, indescribable taste of the slaw, causing the FF to turn into a sticky, gluey substance that was hard to scrap from the inside of my mouth. Whatever the reason the FF were not edible, I still have to say the Popcorn Shrimp was really good even though it was over-salted like the FF. The biggest highlight of this visit had to be the Hush Puppies! Some people don't like the sweet taste of their hush puppies but I LOVE them. They came out hot and delicious to our table. The wait service was good. However, paying $25.00 for 2 subpar plates of shrimp and fries certainly wasn't worth the visit. read more

Mayflower Seafood - Catfish - Seafood Near Me - Rural Hall, North Carolina

Had the best hot wings in Winston. Yes I know. I wasn't in the mood for fish.

We should have turned around and walked out after seeing the hostess look at us like she didn't want to be bothered. The food was the worst I have ever had there. I ordered serf and turf. The steak was supposed to be a Ribeye but ended up being a NY strip, it was good but slightly over cooked. The salad dressing was blue cheese but it was watered down and runny. I ordered Perch for the serf portion of the meal. It did not come out with the steak. I had to ask for it. When the waitress brought it out there were 2 small thin pieces of fish on the plate. It was so over cooked it was extremely dry. My son ordered a ribeye it too was slightly over cooked and his fries were cold and rubbery. My husband ordered a combo of scallops, oysters, shrimp and deviled crab with Alaskan White fish. The scallops were rubbery with no flavor the shrimp had a chlorine taste he was afraid to try the oysters and the fish was dry. The deviled crab was the only good thing on the plate. His fries were cold and rubbery as well. The best part of the meal was the hush puppies. They have definitely lost a customer. read more

The food here has always been good. We've been going here for years and never got a bad meal. Unfortunately we will not be going back! We called in an order and my wife went in to pick it up. The best way to describe it was. " sticker shock". We ordered three plates and it was $47.00 for a 2 item broiled, a 1 item broiled ,and a SMALL shrimp plate. Along with a 2 dollar up-charge on each broiled item there was another 1 dollar charge for getting it to go. Prices have almost doubled and the parking lot yesterday reflected it. On a Tuesday which used to be packed she said there were more employee cars than customers. read more

I ordered their crab 1 time and it was great with liquid butter! That was my first time trying crab that day and it was da bomb!

The server we had was good. Very pleasant and worked hard to please. The food was horrible. I love seafood and couldn't find a way to eat it. Since it was a group/family gathering, I didn't want to influence anyone else's experience. A $25 giveaway. read more

This is our go-to place whenever husby wants popcorn shrimp - although I am hooked on their popcorn chicken (it's soooooo good! - not to be confused with their chicken tenders, which aren't as good). It's a large restaurant with lots of seating. We like the booth seating. Fresh, hot hushpuppies are brought out when you're seated. As I mentioned, I am completely enamored with the popcorn chicken, they are extremely tender and yummy especially with ranch or honey mustard dipping sauce. I don't want to tell you NOT to get the chicken tenders, but they just aren't as moist (and I hate that m-word) as the popcorn chicken. All the fried plates are HUGE and there are definitely leftovers to bring home. If you've got a small appetite, go for the senior size plates! The fried plates come with a side, coleslaw and a few more hushpuppies on your plate. My favorite sides are the fried zucchini and fried squash. Husby likes the baked potato. There is a separate entrance for take-out orders around the corner of the building. Keep in mind they are closed on Mondays. read more

Food was so bad. I ordered two orders of three item specialty dinner; oysters, shrimp, catfish. I threw out my popcorn shrimp from both orders. Catfish was like rubber. Baked potato was small. I spent a few cents short of $30 for two meals. NEVER AGAIN FOR ME!!!! read more

Stopped here on our way home from Raleigh. We like to eat at local places when we travel. This place felt like time stood still! It was even on Andy Griffith Parkway! Husband had the special- fried popcorn shrimp, baby flounder, hush puppies, baked potato, coleslaw for $7.59! It was huge! We vowed to start to share meals instead of getting our own. I had the grilled popcorn shrimp meal for $9.99. Had 10 or so smaller shrimp, baked potato, salad and hush puppies. My shrimp was pretty small portion compared to the other dish, but next time we'd just order he special and share it. More than plenty! With drinks our total was $22. If we would have shared, it would have been $12 and my husband had an up charge for a loaded baked potato! Nice option for a small town restaurant if you're passing through. About 5 mile out of the way off highway 52. read more
