I'm not sure why it's taken me this long to write a review, but I only love it more now than ever! Don't let the location put you off, it's got 24 hour camera surveillance and in the 3 years that we've been going we have never had any incidents or ever felt unsafe. The instructors here are truly amazing. They clearly care about the children and aren't just going through the motions. We've only had a few of them consistently because my son doesn't deal with change very well, so best to try and keep the surprises to a minimum. Huge thanks to Mr. Jordan & Mr. Grayson; you have both been extremely patient with the twins & they continue to exceed my expectations every week! My daughter has her float test tomorrow so I'll have to come back and update this post once she passes! **Update January, 16, 2020 -- She passed! I'm so proud of her and how far she's come. Next, her twin brother! He had a scare last summer so he's a bit behind her, but he's slowly getting more comfortable with floating and we're all confident that he'll be able to do his test later this year.** The float test is a milestone every child has to complete to move from the Goldfish level to the Seahorse level. They first have a mock test wearing shoes & get put in the middle of the pool (either jumping off of the tower in the middle of the pool, or thrown playfully), once they land in the water they are to turn over onto their backs by themselves and float (with a gentle current provided by the instructor) to the wall. They are to then find the wall with their hand, turn upright & stand up on their own. The real test is the same but they are fully clothed. It's such an important skill & I feel so much more confident having my children in any pool knowing they know what to do should they accidentally fall in. Houston Swim Club has 5 locations; Sharpstown, Sugar Land, Katy, Pearland, & Cypress. They also offer unlimited makeups so we're now on AutoPay and don't ever have to worry about losing our spots in our preferred class time. We swim year round in their indoor pool where the lessons are always held & the garage style doors are fully closed when it's cold and open when it's nice and warm. Parents/caregivers can watch in one of the two viewing rooms available or outside when the garage doors are open. Swimming is very near & dear to me since I grew up swimming competitively & then coached young children through my high school & college years. This is why I wouldn't trust anyone but The Houston Swim Club with my kids' water safety! Thanks for reading this review & happy swimming!

In reality, you just need to pay attention to whether or not your kid and their teacher are a good match. My son was with one teacher for almost year with very slow progress and no float test pass. I think it was due to the combo of teacher being more cautious type and my son being more scared type. He was a 4 almost 5 year old in a class with 3 years olds. Anyway, it was my fault for not paying more attention and switching him to another class sooner. He is did great with his new teacher and passed his float test (finally). We had to switch him again recently due to scheduling conflicts and I will be more attentive to his progress from now on.

We had Coach Sydney maybe once and she was so sweet and kind! We've had Coach Helena every time after that! Coach Helena is the sweetest, most caring, kind, professional, motivating, fun instructor I've ever met! My daughter is extremely timid, but looks forward to seeing and learning from Coach Helena weekly! She's been going to ballet far longer than swim lessons, yet she is much more comfortable with swim and much more comfortable with Coach Helena than with any other adult (that's not immediate family). Coach Helena makes all of the kids and parents feel welcomed and truly goes above and beyond to make everyone feel included and motivated to learn while having fun! I love this place and love how professional everyone is - in spite of their very young age!! We have a lot of learning to do from these young ladies working here.

My 9 years old girl said she was okay with swimming in small pool, not big pool I talked to her instructor a couple time; they said no, she could swim. And yet, we took her to public swimming pool for 5ft deep; she got scared. Not sure what she has been learning there; so we decided to move her to a different school. We gave them 30 days notice, I spoke with the staff whether we could still do make-up classes after that day. They said fine, those are your classes, you can still take them. The reason I asked for make-up classes because we have like 12 classes when she was out due to medical and vacation. Today I checked to schedule her make up classes and can't. Called and talked to the staff, they said I had to pay $20 to take make up classes. I was like the staff I spoke last time didn't say that; she said I must have talked to a TRAINEE, and that person gave wrong info. OMG! I didn't mean to write a review about my daughter's progress; because every kid is different. But to pay taking make-up classes make no sense to me. We paid when we were out, they promised to honor make-up classes. Then they don't.

My eldest went to Wolfies through a partnership with Mays School just down the street when she was…read more4. They got a 30-minute lesson per week and I didn't see any of it since the school brings them there and takes them back. However, my daughter did like it so I kept them in mind and she was comfortable in the water, which is great. She's now 7 and I enrolled her and her 3 year old brother over the summer in the same class. Now, because I take them, I get to see it all first hand. First off, the staff are all helpful and attentive. No problems on that end. There's an annual membership fee plus $120 per month per person, though they do offer a free trial class before you make it official. The cost includes one 30-minute GROUP class (2-3 people) per week and if you want more swimming days, it's another $120 per day each week. I was going to shop around but my daughter liked Wolfies so we stuck with them. You drop them off about 5 minutes before their time slot and the teachers wind down about 3 minutes before the end of the time slot. Because of that, I wouldn't say it's exactly a full 30 minutes you get, but it's close. They do talk to you about your child(ren's) progress or any notes when you pick them up, which is nice. You make an account on their website and it's easy to mark an absence and schedule a make up. You can mark the absence up until the minute before your class begins so that's great. My only complaints: - Because my daughter started in the summer and we had the bad luck to choose a time slot with an instructor who would be leaving 2 weeks later, there were a number of weeks where their instructors kept on changing, especially when school started and one that seemed settled changed because of class conflict. That really set her back from getting promoted to the next level. - Within our 4 months at Wolfies, we've had 3-ish classes that were cancelled on their end due to accidents (vomiting/defecating) in the pool. In fact, 1 of those times, I was en route and the second, we were already there. You do get an automatic make up credit but it can be difficult depending on other commitments. I have both of my kids in the same time slot so I have to hunt for make up classes with 2 openings. - You'll need more than just 1 class per week to see results unless you've got easy access to a pool to practice in. They do offer special classes (every day during certain times of the year, private, and holiday camps) and I highly recommend those if you want to get your child that edge and have the financial means. I saw a marked improvement with my daughter after she participated in summer camp (albeit 3/5 days because she got sick the SUNDAY before - no credit/refund without a doctor's note, by the way) 2 months into classes. Her instructors (2 different ones) for the 2 classes after said she was ready to test to the next level, but then some cancelled classes and instructor changes later, she's now "almost there but not quite ready yet" which honestly irritates me a bit. Progress will feel stagnant eventually from when I've spoken to other parents unless you get in extra time. - Only the front office and upstairs room where parents can sit and wait/watch are air conditioned (but it's not very consistent). The pool, changing rooms and bathrooms are NOT and I am dripping with sweat after I help my kids out of their bathing suits and into their regular clothes. I don't mind too much about the pool area but those changing and restrooms are stifling with full on humidity and heat. The pool has these garage type doors that are opened and... I really hate summer. Hah. Pool area has some air flow so not as bad but not so much for those enclosed changing rooms.. - Thirty minutes isn't that long, especially if your class has the full 3 people in it. That's roughly 10 minutes per student and even less if one of them is upset. Instructors do try their best to give each student an equal amount of attention though. It's been 4 months and my eldest is still Level 2. To think she could have gotten promoted 2 months ago! They do the same thing in every class for that level so the content is predictable. We'll stay here until the year is up and go from there and I really hope she'll get promoted by then if not sooner. The good thing is my kids do seem to like it and the instructors try to make it fun and comfortable for those on the fence.
