One issue I do have is that the instructor turnover has been quite high during our time here.

She responds very quickly through texts and is excellent about notifying scheduling/location changes. We've had three instructors so far. Lisa has designed a program that every instructor follows--which is great for kids since they know what's coming next. Our current instructor is Nina and she is all kinds of wonderful. My toddler was having a very hard time with being in the water without her mom. Nina was kind, very loving and patient with a screaming child. We're 4 lessons in and now my younger daughter happily walks to her teacher. Nina adjusted her lesson to accommodate my children's needs. Overall we couldn't be happier and highly recommend you start your swim lessons here!

I love love love this swim school for many reasons. I have taken my daughter here for about 3…read moreyears. The only reason we are leaving is because we moved about a year ago and the commute is just not making sense for us anymore. I will try and be as detailed as possible (usually not my thing). I tried other places, especially right after we moved, but I kept coming back. Reason 1.) the coaches are so amazing and caring. We had coach Tina First, then coach Steven, and then back to coach Tina. Both are just amazing. I started my daughter at just under 3 years old, and she really progressed with her swimming. She has no fear of the water, and she has a great foundation. She can float, breathe, backstroke, swim under water, and is working on her freestyle. Reason 2.) I took her to another popular swim venue, and they dropped her in the water with a bunch of kids and said "swim" to test her level. She's shy. She acted like she didn't know how to do anything and they put her in beginner 1 lol. So, back to Saint Street. I love the individualized attention, even in the group lesson setting. They always know your child by name and know what your kid is capable of. Reason 3.) Parental Comfort. Haha! This is an important one for me because I had a second baby while my first was in swim lessons. Another swim place I shopped wanted me to stand outside (in the hot sun) with my baby stroller (and my crying baby) 3 feet from the pool just in case something happened to my swimming child. No. Get a lifeguard. I went right back to Saint Street Swim to my air conditioned observation deck. If you want to be right there with your swimming child you certainly have that option, especially when they roll up the glass doors. It's a very pleasant atmosphere. I enjoyed our years at Saint Street and hope to find something tolerable (if not comparable) on my side of town.

Several things: 1. Progress reports are only shared every 4…read moremonths so you have no idea where your child is or what they need to work on. 2. Automatic billing in a month in advance so you cannot do anything if you are displeased. 3. Do not miss a class... ever, Saint Street will not allow you make it up, move your schedule or get a refund. 4. There are no clear goals or timeline to move on. It's their discretion so you just keep showing up, paying and hoping. 5. Three kids to an instructor so your kid actually only gets about 8 minutes of instruction and then the rest is them sitting on the side. 6. My truck was broken into in their parking lot and all I got was a "sorry"

This is a great neighborhood YMCA with a good variety of amenities and classes. One of the biggest…read morehighlights is the outdoor pool, which is heated during the winter and stays open year-round unless temperatures drop below freezing. The pool also has a 9-foot deep end and a few lap lanes. One downside is there's very little shade around the pool area. Inside, there are free weights and cardio areas, basketball courts, TRX setup, and several group fitness rooms offering classes like yoga, pilates, Zumba, pickleball, and other fitness programs. The instructors and staff have always been very friendly and welcoming. The men's and women's locker rooms also include a steam sauna and hot tub, which are nice amenities. However, the steam saunas are frequently closed or broken for maintenance, so I'd recommend calling ahead to confirm what's currently working before visiting. Another downside is that the lockers require you to bring your own lock--they do not have built-in combination locks like many newer gyms. They offer memberships for different age groups, and another huge plus is the free covered parking garage. However, during weekday evenings (around 6 p.m.), the garage can get pretty full due to after-work crowds and youth programs. I've been a YMCA member for several years and would definitely recommend this location.

I also like the weight room as it has an impressive selection of smith machines and cardio equipment such as the treadmills which have fans incorporated into their machines. There are 3 things I have noticed that I don't like: 1. the weight room doesn't have a bench that allows you to do workouts in declined mode and the staff wouldn't let me donate a commercial bench with that option. so Declined DB or BB press cannot be done which is strange as it is offered at most corporate gyms. 2. DB selections for the most common weights sets such as 10-25 lb are lacking with only 1 set of DB weights per designated weight for a gym that might have 15 people working out in free weight room (the very least offer *3 sets of 12 lb dumbbells). 3. the men's locker rooms wooden benches and the three leather seats by the tv are stinky dirty and we know this bc every-time I placed my towel on the seats or the bench to change out of my clothes; this foul smell is left on the towel. The smell is so potent that it transfers to my gym bag like trash left out on the sun for several days and I find myself having to wash the towel and the gym bag just to get the homeless stench off. I have learned to avoid the men's locker room like a plague and instead use the lockers found across the gym to put my belongings.

After that I purchased 10 additional private swimming lessons in 2015. Laurisa was pregnant at the time (which I did not know) so could not complete the lessons and after her delivery we probably had 1 swimming lesson. Then in October 2015, she texted me a picture of her swollen ankle saying she was injured and can't swim and winter hit after that so 2015 passed away. I told her no problem and we can continue in summer of 2016. Then, last year, I tried to contact her so many times via emails/texts/voicemails but there was no response whatsoever. Because I had a good experience initially, I recommended Laurisa to my family and my friends who gave her additional business and yet I got cheated. Laurisa still owes me 6 private lessons that had paid her for but she has never cared to apologize or even respond to any communication with me since 2015. She took my money and ripped me off. DO NOT USE HER!!! I would have given the business a negative rating here if I could since I have been cheated.

Hard, hard work: 100 push ups, 100 sit ups, 100 squats, 10k run. Every SINGLE DAY. When I became tired, I relied on the plentiful recreational equipment: table tennis tables, pool tables, basketball courts (indoors and outdoors), racquetball courts, and swimming pools. Inspired by Antonio Banderas, I also enrolled in LPAP dance classes and unleashed my sexy side. But I never stopped working out. NEVER. When my legs got tired, the Rec had hot showers and gym mats for stretching. Water fountains, vending machines, and even kombucha are readily available for recovery. In the summer months, the pools are a great reprieve. And as always, the equipment, towels, and facilities are squeaky clean. If you come to the Rec every day for four years, I guarantee you will see results. You may go bald. You may become a superhero. You might get your Nod bod. And you will certainly feel infinitely healthier than all the people couch potato-ing in their dorms.

I can attest that there are many heavy objects available for lifting in the weight room (but actually, really nice machines/barbells/dumbbells/two squat racks). Note- it's definitely the most busy here before mealtimes, and especially immediately before and after dinner. Try to come in the morning, early afternoon, or during mealtimes if you're like me and don't like people :)
