We were in northern Prescott Valley and wanted some Mexican food and stopped in Mayas. They appear to do a lot of take out business but there are also 8 or so tables inside. They will come to your table to take your order if you are eating in. The salsa had a nice kick to it, a welcome change from many of the very mild salsas served at other local restaurants. I had the garlic seasoned grilled fish plate with beans and rice, it was huge and very good. Loved the flavorful beans. My husband had the chicken mole enchiladas which are a house specialty and these were excellent. The staff were very pleasant and truly seemed to enjoy working there. This place is a gem! And my favorite Mexican restaurant so far in the quad cities. read more

Been here twice now, and both times the food was good. This place is the poster-child for "hole in the wall"; very small, not much to look at from the outside. Dirt parking lot. They have very limited seating inside, and a few tables outside. We did take out both visits, and it looks like most of their business is to-go orders. First time we had carne asada burritos. Real homemade tortillas, generously filled with meat, the carne was nicely seasoned, and the salsa was very good (actually spicy! And definitely homemade). Second visit we got the charcoal chicken special (only available on Thursdays and Saturdays, I think). For around $22, we got a whole chicken pieces that were char-grilled, tortillas, a good sized container of rice and beans, chips, and more of that good salsa. Will definitely be hitting Mayas for take out on a regular basis. read more

Okay, I saw some negative reviews on here from some folks that seem to think Chipotle is "Mexican Food". Being raised in Santa Ana and with a wife from San Antonio who has no problem using her latina powers to torch me; I can safely say this spot is literally THE BEST VALUE in Yavapai County, maybe AZ. The food is authentic and flavorful. The Al Pastor has a tang and a tenderness that would make a Netflix Documentary (foodies you know the one I am talking about). Enchilada red sauce tastes home made and has a great flavor. Really impressed with this place and will put this one on my regular rotation. Even my teenager gets his Carne Asada Fries and eats it with zero complaints ( yes, a modern teenager with zero complaints!). Thursday and Saturdays they have a great deal on whole chickens, rice, beans, tortilla chips, and tortillas. Everyday has deals as well. Check it out!! read more

Besides the food being absolutely horrible with ZERO TASTE, the only time we saw the waitress was to order and get the bill. Even the salsa was horrible like you would buy at walmart. Been 8 years since I ate here and now I remember why I didn't come back. The food is not good. The chips tasted bland and not warm. Salsa was decent but the mini chimis we ordered were very sub par. The chicken was dark and tasted almost like out of a can which was kind of gross except the saving grace was piling salsa on top for an average flavor. The waitress was very friendly and she gave 5 star service with 2 star food. The dishonesty with my bill definitely sealed the deal for me to never come back. They slipped an extra .64 cent charge on my chimis and an extra .20 cent charge on the horchatas (which were average). Don't recommend. read more

I absolutely love this place! Authentic food, GREAT prices! It's a little hole in the wall joint, but don't let that fool you! I love Wednesdays there, $1 tacos, tostadas, and lots of other things! My husband and I (dating at the time) would go there every Wednesday when we lived in town. We've since moved and I'm currently pregnant and I always crave good Mexican, which I have yet to find where I live, so whenever I go back to PV to visit family I ALWAYS get it! No fail, every time. Gotta have my Maya's fix! Totally recommend it! My favs: Salsa is to die for, crunchy tacos... mmmm, tostadas are delish, GREAT chimichangas! And don't forget to have an horchata to drink! EAT HERE! The salsa alone is worth the trip to little place. If you're looking for fine dining, try something else. The food is served on paper plates in a sometimes standing room only atomosphere. I learned of this restaurant from the nephew of the owner a couple of years ago. He brought me a beef taco out of the kindness of his heart, and it carried me back to my childhood in Flagstaff, when authentic Mexican food was all over the place. El Maya's never disappoints. The building isn't fancy, but it doesn't have to be. It's real Mexican, and if you've been to Mexico you know what that means; no frills, just good family food. They make their own corn chips, so take home a bag. Absolutely the best chimichangas in Arizona, big portions of everything, and their grilled chicken (1/2 a chicken or a whole one, with everything) special every Thursday is to die for. Nothing is out of a can or the freezer. They don't use salt, which is great for my father who can't eat much salt. Of course, if you're used to the Great American Seasoning -- which is salt and more salt -- the food will taste bland to you. The only thing against them is they don't have Spanish flan, but hey, I can make that myself. I'm glad I live so close to them. Note that they close early (currently at 7 p.m.) and aren't open on Sundays, which I applaud. A family restaurant needs time with their family. read more

Absolutely TERRIBLE!!! I don't even know where to begin! I ordered a plate that comes w guacamole, when my plate arrived it didn't have it. When I asked why it was because they ran out. Before noon? I guess they had a catering order and they gave it all to that customer was well as a spicer salsa. I ordered flautas and those were NOT flautas! They were taquitos which were served on top of a sauce. Rice and beans and the plate that my friend ordered were all bland in flavor. First time eating here( Saturday), the wife and i thought we would get some food for a picnic lunch up at the Mingus campgrounds.What a find! Not knowing the portion sizes We ordered the half grilled chicken meal and bean and cheese burrito. my PV family recommended this place for a quick bite to eat, very small place, the air works great on a hot day, I ordered the carne asada burrito and a Wednesday special hard taco, others in our party, bean and cheese, flautas, breakfast burritos, the food was Fantastic!!, there was no bad dish, I grew up in East Los Angeles and Whittier area were the heart of great mexican food exists and this place is one of those top of my list, if you haven't had great hole in the wall mexican food then you shouldn't be leaving negative feedback cause you have no idea. the service was great, there is one problem, the salsa is lacking spice and flavor big time, they need to work on that.
