One thing I don't like is how the adults always hog the handball courts. It makes it impossible for the kids to ever play their kid handball anywhere. I wish there was a way to reserve the courts or limit the usage for each court to allow others to have a chance to play too. The City of Buena Park recently hosted Easter 2026 here and it was wonderful. The park was large enough for different set ups. Even though there was a great turn out, there was sufficient room to stretch out and enjoy the outdoors. It was nice seeing the park transformed into an event space.

It also has a swimming pool which is something I don't see often at other parks. The park is also a place for summer camps. Lots of birds twittering, crows and geese present. The restrooms are open and clean. The basketball courts are in good repair. One corner has children's park equipment to play on. There are picnic benches, places to barbecue, trash cans that have recently been emptied. There's a man over there with his bike, just like me, just sitting and looking at what's going on around him. This is one of our favorite neighborhood parks! There are six large benches, which are great if you're having a party and need to accommodate lots of people! There are a few benches on the other side of the park and scattered throughout with lots more trees around them, but you do not have a great view of the playground. The Play structures are in really great condition, there are two regular swings and two infant/toddler swings, a basketball court, and a large baseball/softball field with lots of grassy area for running as well. There seems to be a small recreation center and restrooms, but they are blocked off by a large covered gate. I'm assuming for a construction.

Overall, it's an okay park--the playground is shaded, which is nice. There's also a gazebo with a table and a few additional tables in the sun. Unfortunately, even at 9 a.m., and despite being next to a school, I saw a few homeless individuals sleeping in a corner, along with a cigarette and lighter left on one of the tables. I didn't feel unsafe, but it's not something I'd want kids to be exposed to.

This park is also down the street from Disneyland. It's a straight shot either down Walnut or Manchester, so if you're here around 9:25 p.m. in the summer time or on the weekend you have a great view of the fireworks.

Haster Basin Park, Garden Grove:…read more $25 million. Two years. A facelift meant to turn a drainage ditch into a "recreational haven." They slapped on new soccer fields, jogging trails, shiny exercise stations, and even built a fancy pump station to keep the floodwaters--and maybe the city's reputation--at bay. On paper, it's a glowing civic effort, a love letter to the community. In reality? It's a postcard from the edge of dystopia. Step inside, and the illusion peels off faster than the faded graffiti on the crumbling fitness equipment. The gates are busted, the lake's a floating landfill, and wildlife swims through a soup of plastic and rot, like some grim nature documentary with zero budget for editing. The park's got more trash than a reality TV reunion show and enough drug paraphernalia to open a museum of societal collapse. Irony punches hardest in the form of a gated, compound-like structure smack in the middle--Spanish villa vibes, locked up tight. The most beautiful part of the park, reserved not for the public but for... well, who knows? Maybe the sparkling OC Parks truck parked inside holds the answer. Shiny, pristine, like it rolled off a showroom floor while the park rots around it. A metaphor on wheels. Clusters of people sit around, doing who-knows-what. I work in the homeless space, so no judgment here. But when the vibe feels more "post-apocalyptic gathering" than "community picnic," something's off. Suspicious characters, endless trash piles, and an atmosphere thick with neglect. Garden Grove wanted to hitch its wagon to the Disneyland star, sprucing up areas near the resort while the rest of the city gets left to decay. Haster Basin is the sad proof. It's a park dressed up for a party it wasn't invited to. Consider this review a beacon. I'll be posting it everywhere--tagging Disneyland, Anaheim, and the Garden Grove Council. Because if you're trying to lure tourists from the convention center for a quick jog, they deserve to know they're stepping into a facade. The closer you get to the park, the further you feel from any real sense of care.
