Dr. Maxson is one of the best veterinarians my cat and I came across in the last 12 years, and surely, the best in Houston. He is most knowledgeable, efficient, gentle, caring. His assistant is also very professional and personable. I always felt they significantly undercharge for their services, compared to other vets in Houston. Perhaps, because their practice is located in a not too affluent a neighborhood, with a lot of Spanish-speaking clients.
Here's just one example of Dr. Maxson superior skills.
I first brought my elderly diabetic cat to renew her insulin prescription in 2008. Dr. Maxson discussed with me her condition and mentioned a particular symptom to watch out for that could be a sign of insulin overdose. Since this symptom had never happened before, I didn't pay particular attention. But - what do you know - a few months later, I came home from work to find my cat standing with her face tucked in the corner, disoriented and faint. In panic, I completely forgot about Dr. Maxson's advice. I rushed my cat to the nearest emergency room. On the way there, it started coming back to me, but I still couldn't remember what the symptom meant. I thought the vet at the ER would be able to diagnose it as soon as I told her the cat had diabetes. Well, it turned out, not all veterinarians are equally knowledgeable. That was a stupid and potentially dangerous mistake on my part to take my cat to that ER (near Highway 10 and Bunker Hill). They checked her in right away and did absolutely nothing for 4 hours. I kept asking them to check her blood sugar, but they said they had other more urgent patients. Finally, while going berserk in the waiting room, I called a friend who researched the issue for me online and read to me the diagnosis of insulin overdose. THEN I remembered what Dr. Maxson had told me.
Luckily, my cat survived that crisis and I learned my lesson about good and bad doctors. By the way, that ER doctor never figured out what was wrong with the cat because her blood sugar had already returned back to normal after the 5 hours we spent in that ER!
Even after I moved out of state I kept calling Dr. Maxson for various needs, like a new prescription, or a referral. Although I was no longer his client, he followed through diligently and gracefully, always providing what I was asking for.
Thank you for your kind care and great skill, dear Dr. Maxson! read more
