We needed to replace our old built in Viking refrigerator. After the initial visit to drop off the new Bosch refrigerator we purchased, Max's determined that removal of the old refrigerator was going to be difficult secondary to it's size and weight as well as a difficult exit up a steep staircase. I love buying from local shops and using local services, but not at the expense of very poor service. Bought a new refrigerator in November of 2024 it came with a one year warranty. The ice maker started acting up six months after delivery. We had a service tech come out to the house 4 or more times to fix it, and it still sporadically works. Not happy, I've called twice since the last visit, no callbacks. I wouldn't recommend Max's, service doesn't seem to be their forte anymore. read more

THE ABSOLUTE WORST! Sold me a piece of crap GE washer and cannot seem to fix its multiple issues. Two service calls within the last 4 months. First issue took 2 visits to fix. Latest issue, machine did not work literally 5 minutes after "repairman" left. Without washer for 4 weeks and they could give a crap. Still not working. Expecting a call tomorrow!? TLDR: The service department does not actually diagnose issues. They simply replace parts until it starts working while charging crazy rates to shotgun needed parts replacements. Long story; our oven quit igniting. I was in a crazy busy stretch of work where I was going to be out of town, so to get it fixed quickly, I called Max's. My wife was grateful that I wasn't going to make her go weeks without it. They came and replaced the ignitor, and then the "repair" guy scratches his head, looked at nothing else, and says to call in about it and then leaves. My wife calls in, and they tell her it needs a new burner and probably a control board, but that isn't guaranteed to fix it. They tell her it will be about $1000 to try those things so we should just buy a new one. She hangs up and calls me, and I tell her to tell them to do nothing and I will fix it when I get home. I get back from business trip and pull out the oven and test the control boards with my multimeter using the wiring diagram that is taped to the back of the oven. The control board is fine, so I work down the line, and the next thing to test is the emergency shutoff valve. Quick continuity test tells me that is the problem. Order one online for $80, do a quick swap when it arrives, and I have an oven again. A cheap multimeter and 30 minutes of time found the one and only part causing the problem. They still billled me for their travel and their "diagnosis." I don't know how their service department is still open read more

Overall a bit disappointed in the most recent service. I called and got someone out to look at what turns out to be a broken part. Then I had to call back to get my part ordered. I am disappointed in this service now. They are not going to replace my part anytime soon read more

Maxs is very good but their ge monogram appliances they sell are garbage Our ge monogram dishwasher broke after 3 years. flooded the kitchen and cost $500 to have a repaired shop come out and replace the defectice cheap plastic part that broke! will never but another GE product again!! read more

VERY poor customer service even though we have spent 10's of thousands with them! Several unreturned phone calls etc.

My father in law "runs an afc home" scheduled a repair 2 weeks ago mind you he has been a customer with this place for over 25 years. They called today to cancel his service appointment because someone called in sick. Now they rescheduled his appointment for Friday 4 days away this is not acceptable customer service. My frig went out and I called Max's after striking out at the big box stores. I should known better. I was calling long distance and Max's was very accommodating. They had what I wanted and made a delivery date for three days later. These days that's a miracle. The delivery people brought in the new frig, took away the old one 1-2-3 with no problems. The men were so careful not to damage anything. They even carried the old one out so they wouldn't have to roll it on the floor and maybe damage it. Great service. read more

I've bought three major appliances now from Max's. I've found them to be knowledgeable, honest, and refreshingly respectful. I'm a single woman who usually does her research, and I've gotten so used to getting patronized at other places by people who don't know what they're talking about. Max's is the opposite. A little disappointed. I didn't not receive a call back to see how I liked my new stove. In fact, I haven't been able to use it yet because the salesman didn't tell us that we would not able to use the same electrical outlet as our previous range. So we are waiting for an electrician to come out. This is a hard time of the year to get service help. I spent a significant time researching my choice and it was expensive. I thought I would get better follow up than a big box store. The purchase that I was so excited for has been a let down. read more

First off, I am not a one time customer or just someone complaining to complain. Over the last 20 years we have purchased between 6-10 appliances here in TC. From reused dishwashers to the nice subZero refrigerators which now we have 2. Plus matching side by side upright refrigerator freezers for our large home with many residents, washers, dryers, you name it. We have dumped thousands and thousands of dollars at this place on new appliances and a few more thousand on the repairs plus the time waiting since appliances don't work when they are broke. They LOVE to sell you new and used appliances! That is one thing they can do almost all of the time. The service aspect is one of the worse I think I have ever experienced in the service industry. They have one heck of a crew at the desks in the service area and maybe some of them are actually good at their jobs and like what they do. Bob on the other hand must really be a miserable man. He was a jerk on the phone when we called to verify that our parts were delivered before we drove the 30+ miles into TC. Even though the deliveries were made and the boxes were there we were informed that "he has other responsibilities besides checking those boxes". So we waited 4.5 hours. Then went in since I had this feeling they were there and it was a desperate situation to have our dryers fixed. Once I arrived, walked up to the wonderful service counter, asked if my parts were there and without looking up or moving off his duff, must have been big man Bob announced that they had not arrived in the delivery. Now it was quite apparent those boxes had not been touched or looked at since the delivery guy dropped them off. So this tall slender gentleman walks over and asks Big Bob if maybe they could be in this delivery boxes...."nope they aren't in there...they didn't come today". Tall man doesn't give up that easily starts opening boxes and low and behold there are a couple of the parts we needed. Then another dude found a part sitting in the back that they had the WHOLE TIME! We been waiting for 5 days. So frustrated. Sad news is they shorted us a part and we have to go back this morning to get the last piece of the puzzle. Recently found out who owns this "service" place...might be giving them a call. read more

The word "Service" should removed from the company name. They only care about taking your money. There is no service at all. They take your money & then delay your order so they can keep your money. They always have another excuse. Then they deliver the wrong appliance trim piece piece, then blame someone else. read more

We shopped and shopped for a new stove. We found just what we wanted at Max's at a great price (floor model). When we found one of the burners wasn't operating properly and could not be fixed the stove was replaced. Service could not have been better. Delivery and repair people were on time and responsive. Now very happy with new stove and are heading back to purchase fridge. You really need to consider the value of service when you are price shopping. Happy in Cedar MI read more

Could not have asked for better service under any circumstances! Arrived in Northport yesterday after being gone over a year to find our refrigerator "dead". Wife called Max's Service, took her order over the phone and within 2 hours we have a brand new GE side-by-side with water and ice dispenser installed in our kitchen. We bought a new place up in Traverse City and when it came time to buy appliances (the whole shooting match - fridge, range, micro, washer, dryer, etc.) we had originally thought we would go to one of the big box stores, based on price. Our builder recommended Max's, so we started there. We found the salesman (George) to be both easy to work with and knowledgeable. When we got the pricing we found it to be very competitive and the service was outstanding! They took care if everything, prevented a few potential issues along the way, offered loaner appliances to get us going (who does THAT anymore?) and stood behind their work. For a company who's motto is "service is what we sell" they have fallen flat on their face. Bought a new frig from them a month age, Since the delivery guys were too lazy to put a packing blanket between the dolly and the unit ended up with a dent in the door. Told the delivery guys and they said they would order a new door. Called a month later and the parts manager said " It takes at least a month to get a door, call back in a couple of weeks" Don't really believe that "service" involves me calling them to see if a part is in. Then when I asked that he confirm it was on order he did so grudging. Guess what, never ordered. He again he say's call in a month. Ask to speak to a manager and his reply is "I'm the parts manager" Ask to speak to the store manager and "he is on a long distance call, I will have him call you when he is done" Guess what never got a call. SO much for supporting the local guys, they fell flat on their face. They are right on one thing "Service does sell" and they don't have it. I won't be back. read more

Max's is outrageous. Having outfitted four sizable homes with Wolf, Sub Zero, Electrolux and Meile from Max's Appliances over the last 10 years I thought we might pull some weight in the repairs department . Sadly, not the case with Max's. Our German coffee system broke at the beginning of the summer season. I was told that I would have to wait for "my cup of coffee" while they took care of more important problems. It was the rudest I've ever been treated in my life. They seem to think they are the only game in town. Happy to sell expensive equipment, reluctant to maintain it... Buyer beware! read more

Friendly but not helpful. Salesman recommended a simple but expensive cooktop. The igniter has died twice in six months requiring days of waiting for service and then ordering parts. I think Max's is a good local appliance store. I have bought many appliances here. However, I have recently needed service on 2 appliances that where less than 2 months old. The issue is that in both cases I had to wait 2 weeks for the service calls. I find this unacceptable and disappointing. I hope Max's is working on resolving this issue. read more

I love Max's for their products, their staff, their service. After working with a salesman for nearly 30 years when buying appliances, I wondered what my experience would be after he retired. I'm happy to say that I was very impressed with the new salesman's (Tom's) knowledge, patience, and professionalism as we pelted him with questions for nearly an hour as we decided about buying a new dishwasher. Although we were somewhat prepared to select a model, the decision wasn't easy-- but Tom stuck with us and kept providing helpful information. The dishwasher we chose wasn't in stock but arrived the very next day. Tom connected us with a licensed plumber who picked up the dishwasher and installed it one day later. The installer did a great job too. We continue to be happy to be Max's customers. read more

My wife and I purchased our home and decided to keep the kitchen overhaul local. We went into Maxs because of all the "gushing" reviews by our friends and co-workers. I couldnt have been more disappointed. As we entered there were 3 employees and 2 groups of customers. There were 2 employees at the desk helping 1 couple with their purchase. Nobody greeted us. We made a point to stay in their eyeline, as we looked around, so they could help us when they were free. My wife continued to browse as I stood near the desk, still no greeting, no "be with you soon sir..." NOTHING. Granted I wasn't putting a $60K kitchen in my house, but it was certainly a free $12k in applainces for them. Finally after 25 minutes in their store, we left and went to Lowes and saved a ton of money and had GREAT customer service from a gentleman that repaired appliances for 20 years. Maybe it was an isolated incident, but awfully shocking none-the-less from a "staple" in the community. read more

I called to schedule a disconnect 3 weeks before I needed it. I was told to call back 3-4 days before needed to schedule. When I did, they told me they don't disconnect refrigerators with ice makers, can't do it. Holy Crap! Now I'm scrambling getting someone over to do the work. So they don't do refrigerators with ice makers! They sell them!! Service is not there business. read more

I'm extremely disappointed with their service. We called Max's to do a fridge repair for us. My husband took pictures, sent the model # of the fridge and the brand, told them exactly what was wrong with it, so that the repair technician could be prepared. The tech they sent out didn't even know he was at our house to fix a fridge, let alone anything about it. The first thing he asked when he got there was "What am I here to look at?". After taking a look at it he said they had to order a part and would have to come back in a week. Come to find out, he waited a whole day to even ORDER the part thus delaying the repair even further. Then when my husband called, he was told that once the part came in, they would call to SCHEDULE an appointment. I've been two and a half weeks without a fridge, 8 months pregnant, and no idea when Max's will be able to come out again to fix it. I'm beyond mad and wish we would have gone with a different company. read more
