If you're tired of the same-old 1-piece or 2-piece chicken, why not get yourself a 4-piece meal?…read more I am a big fan of Chicken Chicken's food. It's this small karinderia-looking place along Estrada Street, a block away from Benilde Hotel. If you see the Santisima Trinidad Church, you've gone too far. This small place hasn't changed a bit since I was in college--it still has the monoblock chairs, the big wide open window which will make you feel like someone would serenade you while you're eating (that's true though during Christmas), and of course, their food. Chicken Chicken doesn't give you a lot of options on their menu but they sure make up for it for with the quality and quantity of each serving. Believe it or not, they serve 4 pieces of chicken for every order. That'll already last you until dinner! Aside from the chicken, another bestseller is their Liempo. Don't forget to dip it in their signature sauce! For all meals, you can choose to have plain rice or order the garlic rice which I love. Last tip: the owner manages the restaurant herself. She may get cranky at times so bring a lot of patience. I promise you, the food will totally make up for it!

Sounds like the recipe for an adventure, yeah? Exactly what I thought, so I hitched up my pants and ventured so far from the safety of DLSU's Taft Avenue, I almost cried. The restaurant itself blends so well with its residential surroundings that I kept passing it without realizing it was there. After a few instances of taking out my phone, pretending I got a text while I inconspicuously turn around, I found Chicken Chicken and its owner who is always a wee bit short-tempered. It's not her fault, there are people constantly streaming into the place. It's her against about a thousand people every day -- even Ghandi would be like SHUT UP I KNOW YOUR ORDER'S COMING WAIT. The name 'Chicken Chicken' should be an indication that their flagship meal consists of two large as heck pieces of chicken and their signature dipping sauce. Be prepared to shell out extra for two (or seven) more cups of rice if you're gonna enjoy this fully, but since the meal itself is less than a hundred pesos, it shouldn't be a problem.

I remember my first time. I took a bite, slowly.. savouring the warm deep fried goodness of batter coated oreo cookies and the cool ecstasy provided by the creamy vanilla ice cream. Then... it hit me. I was in love. Oh gosh! The presentation looked glorious. Three round, and what it looked to me at that time, puffy pancakes, topped with ice cream with sprinkles and cinnamon on it, like snow on a Christmas day. And that's not the only thing I love here at Flaming Wings. It's called the Flaming Wings for a reason. Their chicken wings, two thumbs up! I prefer their chicken tenders though. Flavour wise, there's no difference between the two. It's just the bones. And me like it when I could just pop it straight ahead into my mouth. Delish!

Create your own rice meal by choosing the sauce for your spicy chicken (you can even opt for non-spicy or ultra spicy!), and then the dip to go with that. Over the years, I've tried a lot of different combinations which worked well for my tastes. In fact, almost everything worked! My favorite sauce-dip combination would be Smokey BBQ and Bleu Cheese. But I usually pair Smokey BBQ sauce to Wasabi Mayo and get just as good as the former with my rice. And to wrap up the Flaming Wings experience, the fried Oreo with Ice cream is something that you shouldn't miss!

For those who are not familiar where WingMan is located, it's at The Collective (a commercial space where hipsters unite!) near Grepa Life building in Makati. As the restaurant name suggests, their main offering are... tadah - chicken wings in different flavors! Like any other wings place, they offer it in 1/2 dozen of 1 dozen with one order between 180 - 300. You can also combine different flavors of wings if you decide to get 1 dozen. We tried their Garlic Parmesan and Hickory Barbeque since both of us are not fans of spicy wings. The size of their wings is average, I've had other wings bigger than the one from WingMan though their flavor was pretty impressive. Aside from Chicken Wings, they also have healthy meals such as salads in their menu and also offers a wide selection of burgers. My boyfriend tried their Cowboy Burger, which was their Texas-inspired sandwich with BBQ sauce, bacon and caramelized onions with fries to go with. I got to take a bite out of this burger and found it especially good! I've always been a fan of anything with BBQ on it so I was happy to find that theirs measured up to my BBQ standards. They also have local and imported beers that perfectly complement your chicken wings. They also have cocktails for the ladies. One drawback of this place is that it's quite small (around 40 people can fit in) and parking is a big issue.

Since the place was about a 15 minute walk from my condo, I first tried it on a Sunday at 2 pm. It's a small local restaurant that's open air on a corner. You can place your order in the counter but have to wait to be seated before they will bring your food. I had to wait a good 30 minutes before a table was free for the staff to clean and tell us to take that table. We got the pecho (chicken breast) and garlic rice, and I have to say, it definitely was good. Hot off the charcoal grill, it tasted best when you add the chicken oil to the rice. Chicken was juicy and was the best I had in Manila (I did try other inasal places before I made that final decision) They give you a box of gloves if you want to eat with your hands but will also give you utensils. Overall, it was a great meal that I did come back a week later at 1130 am, it was still packed but got a table that was open so no wait. Never had chicken from Bacolod but this definitely was better than Mang Inasal and Bacolod chicken.

You know that feeling when a friend who's a great cook finally opens his little dream eatery? Yup, that's the feeling I got here. From the outside, it didn't look like an Indian restaurant, but there was a chalkboard out front promoting their chai, lassi, and samosa, and so I was intrigued. I did not expect I would find fantastic samosa and veggie roti wrap here. I also liked their rose lassi and the garlicky chicken. The food brought back fond memories of hanging out at my Indian friend's house back in high school and getting my first taste of their cuisine. Chi Chops has a well-meaning "tambayan" feel to it, and the food's home-cooked appeal and taste is affordable and worth the visit. When you do drop by, look for Loj. Their house-brewed iced tea is so good that you'd really wonder why it's got a head of froth floating in the glass. Service is quick, and the servers are polite and friendly. I'm also recommending their chicken tandoori meal with iced tea. Don't forget to ask for promos every month. Sometimes they put up value meals which are really good value for money.

The first thing to take note of is that Wingstop is probably the most expensive. It's quite a bit more expensive than its competitors, however, I think that it makes up for it in the sheer variety of flavors that they have. The second thing is that you HAVE to eat with your hands, lest you suffer through the pain of fiddly utensils. That's why I wholeheartedly recommend that you opt to just dig into it. They offer gloves, but I say just eat it straight on. It makes the eating experience so much better. One thing that surprises me is how much I turned out to like the Parmasean flavor. I like my wings with either salt and pepper or with a hefty drizzling of barbecue sauce. That's why when we had a platter of different flavored wings, I sort of avoided the parmasean in favor of the barbcue flavored and the spicy buffalo flavored wings. However, the parmasean had this really nice texture that makes the wings really crispy, and the sharp taste of the cheese compliments the mild spiciness of the wings really well. Wingstop gets a thumbs up for me. It's not exactly the most worth it, but the taste factor more than makes up for it.

I love how there are varieties when it comes to their seating arrangements--there are booths, bars and the regular ones. Don't judge me; I have always loved how restaurants can play up their interiors through simple means. One thing to note when it comes to their food is that it is quite expensive. 235php for a 5-piece meal is a pretty steep price in Taft Avenue already. I'm just glad that the wings did not disappoint! It's cooked just right, not too crispy and not too soggy. I'm not too happy with the coleslaw though, I would choose KFC's coleslaw anytime over theirs. But still, good job on the chicken!

This was in the 1990's up until the early 2000's. We didn't mind the open-air setup and the uncomfortable concrete seats because their chicken barbecue was simply flavorsome. Sadly, that chicken inasal place is gone now. In fact, the whole open-air food court had been entirely demolished. Today, a modern condominium building stands on the exact same spot. I was too young to remember the name of the chicken inasal eatery or maybe I'm just too confused with all the various ways that the words 'Chicken', 'Inasal', and 'Bacolod' have been mixed up by new players in the chicken barbecue business. But my faintest memories tell me that our favorite inasal place had a green and yellow motif. Now, right across Makati Cinema Square sits a chicken inasal restaurant with the very same branding colors. When I spoke with the waiter, he said that they were the very same outdoor chicken place I was talking about. Sampling their paa (chicken thigh and leg), atay (liver), and isol (chicken tail or parson's nose) was a bit of a revelation to me. The meat was juicy and not sweet, unlike that one from some giant inasal food chain. Well, whether this is the Bacolod Chicken House of my younger days or not, I'm sure that I'll come back to this place. Simple, uncomplicated chicken inasal is my thing.
