I wanted to share my experience donating to House of Hope so others know what to expect…read more I called ahead because I had a large amount of sewing and embroidery items to donate. I was honest that everything was in decent condition--not perfect, but still usable. I was told I could bring everything in. When I arrived and opened my trunk, the gentleman helping immediately made a snide comment: "You know we're not a refuge place, we're a thrift store." That was surprising and honestly off-putting, especially since I had already explained everything over the phone. I asked for a manager, and they pointed out that one of my sewing bags had dust on it and said they couldn't accept it in that condition. I understand having standards, but this felt excessive for donated goods. I guess if you had a Birkin bag but it had a little dust on it or wasn't in perfect condition, they wouldn't take that either. It left me wondering--are you a resale shop or a retail store? If the expectation is that everything must be near-perfect, that should be clearly communicated upfront. Otherwise, it feels unreasonable for a donation-based operation. I mean House of Hope is getting this stuff for FREE. I respect that they have policies and that the organization is volunteer-run, but the overall interaction came across as dismissive and overly picky. If I had known the expectations were this strict, I would have saved myself the trip and sold the items myself or donated elsewhere. Just something to keep in mind if you're planning to donate here.

Worker was watching tv (no worries it was slow totally get it) but it was way loud and didn't lower the volume we basically had to scream to each other to talk. While we were looking did not get asked if we needed help with anything. The atmosphere was just off and we both agreed we felt unsafe to be honest. My nephew took in his now grown sons stereo for repair. It was just before covid. Then covid hit. We were all sick and things happen. It sat awhile. My nephew kept in touch about it tho. Several texts went back and forth as did a few calls. Suddenly it can't be found! Hmmm how odd! When my nephew called he was told it was "lost" or possibly thrown out! I sincerely doubt either! It's worth on ebay $250-$400 and Tim is well aware of that! To do this to someone he's known since 5 and is now 23 is sad, rude and sketchy to say the least! When my nephew confronted him he basically asked him to leave the store! I've personally heard other record store owners comment on his business practices. They were not positive at all. It's his karma! He had the nerve to try and SELL him ANOTHER for $150 I would not shop here! I certainly would not bring anything in to get fixed. He never called, texted or emailed and said you NEED to pick up your stereo or it will be considered abandoned or sold or anything! He never gave a straight answer! Buyer beware! The page will tell you the final total before you hit the bid button, so it's not like they are sliding the fees in under the wire. I bid what I feel is fair after all the fees are added and I've been very happy with the stuff I won. I've gotten some fantastic deals here in the last decade. Also the front house ladies are super friendly.
