I am particular about my hair, have always been the gal with the beautiful long Kate Middleton like…read morehair, and have had many leading people work on it (Anthony Cristiano is my stylist. I had my hair highlighted for years by leading nyc colorists such as Rita Hazan, Kyle White, and my favorite Marie Robinson to whom I went for many years). OMG I went in to see reportedly master colorist Daniel Rubin with my Robinson base formula yesterday. I requested updating the formula to a zoned use of one-steps to cover my now resistant salt and pepper at my part while otherwise providing a multi dimensional brunette as I'd come in. Daniel delivered the quintessential horror job--mascara black helmut head. The job couldn't be worse from the most junior colorist at a strip mall salon. Also though I told him I have seborrhea and use a medicated shampoo, and though I asked him to check my color post shampoo because it was unusually dark, he didn't recognize that the shampoo gal hadn't gotten the dye out. I not only got an awful aesthetic result but by this afternoon my scalp, neck, and back erupted in itchiness and when I scratch my scalp I have tar like black pigment under my nails. I am a physician and believe that with high potency steroid ointment applied several times daily for 3 weeks I can resolve the inflammation once I get the dye off my scalp. But I am pessimistic about a quick aesthetic solution. I will return to the salon tomorrow to request removal of the dye from my scalp (I understand removal of the particularly heavy product used requires a special chemical) and color fix which i believe may require several processes over the next several weeks. I will update my post afterward. I don't know which if any Chicago area salons can deliver sophisticated, spectacular color that rivals nyc's best colorists or at least can reasonably satisfy discerning clients, but I see that the Winnetka Rehder salon isn't remotely the place.

Unfortunately, the weather had other plans and it started pouring right when we were heading to walk over. We struggled to find an Uber/Lyft/taxi and ended up arriving late to our appointment. We felt absolutely terrible. When we arrived, the gentleman at the front desk initially was trying to reschedule us because we were late... Thankfully, Lydia and Amarii were still there and were kind enough to fit us in anyway. We were SO grateful. After a stressful day at my conference and the chaos of trying to get to the salon, the experience completely turned our day around. Lydia did my haircut and Amarii did my cousin's, and both were fantastic. They made us feel relaxed, listened to what we wanted, and gave us beautiful haircuts that we absolutely love. We both left feeling refreshed, confident, and so happy with our hair. Thank you again to Lydia, Amarii, and the salon team for being so accommodating and talented. Highly recommend!

Racist, Dishonest, and Unethical - They Took My Money Without Providing Any Service!…read more If I could give zero stars, I would. As an Asian woman, I have never felt so disrespected and discriminated against at a business. I had a confirmed appointment at 11:00 AM. Before arriving, I called ahead to let them know I would be around 25 minutes late, and they said it was okay. I arrived at 11:38 AM, meaning I still had plenty of time, as the stylist's next appointment wasn't until 2:30 PM--a full three hours later. I have had this exact service (bleach and tone) with the same stylist before, and it only took two hours. But instead of working with me, they outright refused to see me, even though I was already there and willing to compromise. I offered multiple solutions, including blowing out my own hair to save time--but they refused to even let me speak with the stylist. The front desk staff was cold, dismissive, and completely unwilling to communicate. The worst part? They charged me the full amount without telling me. I repeatedly asked if they were only charging the deposit, and they lied and said yes. I later discovered they had secretly taken the full payment. When I confronted them, the owner had a terrible attitude--no apology, just an arrogant claim that they would refund half "out of courtesy." But I received no service at all--not because I didn't show up, but because they refused to serve me. I was literally standing there, trying to negotiate any solution, while they dismissed me completely. They never once tried to work with me--it was me begging them the entire time. This is not just about bad service--it is clear racial discrimination. They had the time, they had the means, but they chose to deny service to an Asian customer and steal my money instead. This salon is racist, dishonest, and completely unethical. They take your money, lie to your face, and refuse to provide any solutions. DO NOT support a business that treats customers this way. Avoid this place at all costs!

She was very responsive to all my emails, and so patient with me as I had to re-arrange the day-of schedule several times. He was polite in the beginning but when my hair looked more like a bun (not what I asked for?) I asked for just a regular ponytail. Ultimately when it was done there were pieces of hair falling out of the updo and tons of little bumps on the top. It looked very messy when he fixed it, and he blamed me for not liking his first style. I have gotten several ponytail updos and never had issues until this time - very bizarre and unpleasant experience.

Full details: I came to Colette's salon and saw Korie for a full highlight and cut. I waited over 15 mins for my stylist to ARRIVE (she wasn't finishing up with another costumer, she was late). She was also awkward to talk to during the long appointment. When I asked for highlights to achieve an ombré look, she decided to use the balayage technique. Although the technique is the preferred way to achieve a more natural ombré look, she was not skilled in the technique and the results were horrific. After I left the salon I saw how splotchy my hair was with large spots of blonde high on my head and many hot spots scattered through my hair. I immediately returned to the salon. (How they could let me leave with such a terrible color service in the first place baffles me). Although the staff recognized me from earlier in the day, no one came up to greet me and continued to talk amongst themselves. I had to ask to speak to a manager. Colette, the owner was there to speak to. I informed her that I was not happy with my service and I needed it corrected. She looked over my hair over and agreed it was not right, and offered to have it fixed. We went to her office to reschedule. The owner was very rude to me. I requested a more senior stylist to fix it, as I understandably did not trust my stylist to correct something she couldn't do properly from the start. She refused and gave me a difficult time rescheduling. I informed her I needed it corrected within a week as I was attending a wedding. The owner told me, "well it's not that bad" with extreme attitude. It was wildly unprofessional. What owner wants work coming out of their salon that's "not that bad"?!!! I had to see my original stylist Korie to have my hair corrected. As I walked into the salon, the owner Colette walked out past me- knowing I was coming in for my correction. Since she was still there when I arrived and having made the appointment herself, I felt she should have greeted me to apologize and also consult on the corrective service to make sure I would be taken care of. No one assisted my stylist on how to correct what she had done wrong. Unfortunately the corrective service only swapped one problem for another. I left with uneven foiled highlights to try and cover the splotches. I will never return and I strongly recommend you seek out an alternative salon in Chicago for your color services. You can find much more qualified & friendlier salons, all while still being more affordable.
