First of let me start with the good: 1. Price is not bad if you buy on groupon 2. The area is not far out of town 3. Nice shaded area The cons: 1. Playing 20 on 20 on a five man field with one reff!!!! 2. Reff's suck, they just stand around out side the field instead of running two fields 3. Last time i went one field was closed...... 4. Deflated peaces of speed ball field, i will attach picture proof 5. Reff's are scared to check you 6. Owner never once went to look at the condition of the fields, i guess he does not care. 7. Only one kind of paint.... 8. Very rude reffs

    Lazy, rude and unorganized staff.

There are several spots around the lake, but since we were booking through Recreation.gov, we landed on Spring Cove. I always try to book campsites close to the water, and on paper, this campground looked perfect. The Good Prime Lake Access: The location is super close to the water. You just have to cross the main road, walk down a little hill, and there you are! We selected sites nearest the road to ensure easy access to the lake, which is our main source of entertainment. The kids absolutely loved it. The water was warm enough to swim for hours, but cool enough to be refreshing in the summer heat. Bonus Perks: We loved that our parking permit came with a 15% discount for boat rentals at Miller's Landing Resort (just about a mile down the road). We used it to book a half-day boat rental, and it was easily one of the highlights of the trip! Awesome Camp Host: Shout out to Patrick for being incredibly cool and helpful. The Not-So-Good The Bathroom Situation: The flushing toilets were shut down, meaning we had to use porta-potties. Yuck! I am not a fan and found it pretty stressful. Thankfully, Miller's Landing was close enough to "take care of business" when needed. Yes, I'm weird, but I just can't with the porta-potties. Tiny Sites: The sites themselves are small. We are used to the larger, less crowded campgrounds up north at higher elevations, so we had to seriously adjust our layout for our party's three campsites and varying tent sizes. When the website says "small tent," they really mean small tent. Don't try bringing a mansion tent here unless you want to be moving picnic benches around just to make it fit. Mosquitoes: There were a lot of them. Be sure to pack plenty of bug repellent options. Despite the tight squeeze and the bathroom bummer, it was a great trip. I think we might have just found our new annual spot!

The trailhead is at Chowchilla Recreation Area close to bathroom at boat ramp. Lakeview Trail: two trailheads. One is at group camping. The other (free entrance) is at Raymond Bridge outside the town of Raymond.) This trail skirts the lake and river. (I added all 3 trailheads to Google Maps, along with reviews.) The lake and the terrain is beautiful this time of year (3.18.17) with temps in the mid 70s, wildflowers in full bloom, and the hillsides a glorious emerald green. We came for a short day trip but checked out several places for future reference. The Monument Ridge Trail, adjacent to one of the main boat launches was an easy 2.25 miles one-way (4.5 miles total but you can continue or turn around whenever you want). Besides an extraordinary amount of wildflowers, we saw 2 wild turkeys, one falcon, several hawks, numerous vultures, and one eagle (yes, we totally lucked up seeing the eagle)! We later drove around and scoped out all of the campgrounds for future reference, especially those with trees or views. At the group camping area, there is 4-mile Lakeview hike that takes you to Raymond Bridge. Of course, it would be an 8-mile roundtrip hike if you went there and back. I plan on checking it out really soon. High props to the overlook area. This time of year, the views are awesome, as is the very colorful lichen on the rocks. There is also a tiny visitor center with very clean bathrooms. For those of you who want to see the Memorial Ridge Trail hike, I am posting our satellite view, as well as numerous pics. Enjoyable day. Lots of people fishing and in boats on this Saturday morning.

There's a space that looks like it's for Tennis but there's NO net. And there is a sign on the court that says: "Pétanque Courts". Do NOT come here expecting a tennis court. We had no extra time to find another place, so we just stayed here and had her warm-up as best she could. The plus side was the bathrooms were clean. We got here at 8:15 in the morning and it looked as if they'd just been cleaned. They are chained open.

Gettysburg Ave. It is situated between two tennis courts (that are adjacent to one another) and a skate park. The park sign says the hockey rink is open daily from 6am-10pm, but the Parks and Recreation individual opens the gate to the rink at 8am and closes up around 9pm. It's a large rink, a bit worn out, trash in some places, can use a bit of sweeping, minor cracks that disrupt stick handing a puck at times, and there are a few slick spots from liquid spills. Other than that, it has a smooth cement floor, two large heavy duty hockey goals with netting, painted lines, player's benches, and the lower half of the boards are white painted wood and the top half is metal fencing. There are also functionally bright lights to turn on when it gets dark.
