At the beginning I was worried to book a campsite at Eastman lake but I loved. I took great pictures. The only thing that I'm regret about is the fact that I didn't take any boat because it is impossible swimming in the lake even they saying on the website that you can.

The rangers are the friendliest, there's wild life everywhere and it's pet friendly! Clean restrooms and showers, trash cans are accessible almost every where to limit people littering. The fish is plentiful! Will likely start coming twice a month :)

The Eastman Lake campground is one of my favorites for off season camping (Fall-Spring). They have fire pits at every campsite, and plenty of walking trails. There is a playground for the kids, and also a volleyball court. There are several full hookup and power and water sites, and the campground has just added several more. There are some sites with a look over the road coming in that we really like. We have seen lots of wildlife from coyotes, deer, bobcats, and turkey vultures. There is also a bald eagle sanctuary close by. Beware of rattle snakes in the summer months though. One of the downfalls of the campground is that the lake is sometimes very low after the beginning of summer. It's also a little walk from the campsite. Making reservations is easy through Recreation.Gov. http://www.recreation.gov/

I decided to take my very first travel trailer adventure to Eastman on mothers day and I have to say we really enjoyed it. I camped in CODO-6 for two nights. The staff was helpful and around when you needed anything including the ranger. The campsites all looked nice with amazing fire pits and free wood to burn, so no complaints on the campsite grounds at all. Good hiking trails, Good Fishing and Good Camping. Definitely this place is a go back soon. Oh did I mention Free hot showers and clean bathrooms. I just want to say thanks to the people there working on keeping this place looking good.

This campsite is huge which is suppose to be able to have up to 100 campers. This is the first time…read moreto Codorniz and we didn't know what to expect. The drive was very far from where we live and took us roughly 5.5 hours. I think their signage could use some improvements since all 6 cars got lost to the site. There week that we were there was in the mid 90's but luckily the lake was 10-15 walk or 3 minutes drive from the site where you can play in the water to cool off. I would stay away though if the temp is any higher since there isn't much tall trees that provides shades or helps to block sim strong winds that picks up randomly. Overall the stay was a pleasant surprise with an amazing sunset and bright stars at night. I can't see this as a yearly spot but maybe we will come back in a few years due to the distance.

We stayed at campsite number 4 (good view, somewhat secluded, covered table, and close to the bathrooms) There was one maybe two other campers In the whole place. The bathrooms were the nicest camping bathrooms I've ever been to with one shower that was working, very clean, and well maintained. It was a $20/day for tent campers. I could see this place getting busy in the summertime and some of the campsites are fairly close together.

First off, I want to say that my 5-star rating only applies if you are visiting between mid-October…read moreand mid-April. During the rest of the year (April 15 to October 15), it's too hot to really enjoy camping either here, or at the Corp of Engineer's other campground at H.V. Eastman Lake a few miles to the northwest (Codorniz Recreation Area). The ideal months are probably November and March, especially if you are tent camping: not too hot in the daytime, not too cold at night. In December, January, and February, it's going to be really cold at night, the nights are really long (14 to15 hours), and those months have the greatest chance that it will be raining. If you are tent camping, I recommend that, if possible, you make a reconnaissance day trip in advance, and visit both the Hidden View and Codorniz campgrounds, to inspect the campsites for yourself. When tent camping, you really need the site, or at least the tent pad, to be as flat and level as possible. Both Codorniz and Hidden View are located in rolling hills and not all of the sites offer as much "flatness" as you might want, and it's almost impossible to really tell for sure what these sites are like from the photos on the Recreation.Gov website. Codorniz is not quite as hilly as Hidden View, and has more trees, but that said, the trees in both campgrounds are Valley oak (Quercus lobata), and these aren't really the best shade trees, having very small leaves. They are bare in the winter months and don't even start to develop leaves until late April, so in the winter and early spring, the trees all look dead and there's no shade at all. There are boat ramps and day-use/picnic areas at both Hensley and HV Eastman Lakes, but the lakea are relatively small, compared to Folsom Lake or Lake Oroville, and in the winter and early Spring months the water level is typically so low that the ramps might not even be open. Something to consider is that Hidden View campground is only 75 miles from Yosemite Valley: if you would like to camp somewhere with electric and water hookups that's reasonably priced, and make a day trip to Yosemite, Hidden View is a good choice.

+3 stars for very friendly and helpful rangers and clean bathrooms. This is a very well-kept…read morecampground. -1000 stars for visiting in July. I'm sure this is a fine place in March. In July, it's like visiting Satan's favorite county park. It's 110 degrees, the lake smells gross, the bottom is all silty and nasty, and the area where the lake has receded from its high water level is muddy and squelchy. I think this is where parking ticket cops and used car salesman go on vacation. Probably also where those guys whose job it is to deny workers comp claims spend a weekend. Only somebody professionally evil (or a rattlesnake) could love this place in July (and I have my doubts about the rattlesnake.) You could drive 30 mins further and be in the Sierras where it's 20 degrees cooler, the water is clean and clear and doesn't smell like the decaying dreams of a homeless fisherman, and the bottom of the swimming hole is granite rather than a squishy layered lasagna made of the bodies of rotting demon fish. I also really don't get these reviews that are like "the lake is gorgeous." It's a man-made reservoir set in a relatively barren landscape. Yellow hills and oak trees here and there. It looks exactly like what you might imagine "we put a bunch of water in a place only fit for cattle grazing" would look like. This spot is the epitome of "the part of California you drive through to get to somewhere else." Still, it's clean and easy to get to and I recommend it as a stopping point on a road trip if you need one - just not in the middle of summer.
