Mostly a spot for locals but worth checking out for a scenic view on the way back from sequoia National park. A lot of the good spots are taken but in some spots you can do some safe wading or swimming in the water. Parking is pretty easy and only need to trek down the hill to get near the lake. Truly beautiful but may be difficult to fully appreciate after journeying in the sequoias!

Stunning place to walk your dog, have a picnic or take photos. There's beautiful river rock of various sizes scattered around near the river's edge, as well as a sandy beach. The river is fast and deep in some spots, but people have been known to play in certain areas of the water that are more shallow. I love walking my dog here- there are interesting smells (to him). I have a national park pass so I don't have to pay the $8 or $10 day use fee. I hang it in a holder on my mirror. I prefer to park in the smaller eastern lot by the old boat launch-there's no rock scrambling. The bathrooms are never too busy and are always clean. The Army Corps of Engineers take really good care of this place. As it's warmer, you definitely need to watch for rattlesnakes.

Great place to entertain the entire family. The kids had so much fun swimming and playing in the swimming hole. The sound of the water flowing on the streams was so relaxing. There were lots of squirrels tryna steal our food, fed them a few slices of bread but they keep coming back lol. Please people clean up as you go, take your trash with you. There was a group of kids that just left their bottled water and plastics trash on the side. My lil ones knew better and collected the pile of trash they saw and brought it home to dispose properly. Aside from that, it was a great family getaway! We'll be back soon!

I've always loved this place! I've been coming here for decades! Usually I come here with an empty bag and fill it up with trash by the time I leave. I was glad not to find much the last couple of times here! I noticed a new caretaker picking up some trash with his dog. I'd love to see more consideration to this place. It's definitely a blessing to live near a hidden gem during the hot summers!

Have come here three times and explored three different areas of this recreation area. You can walk along the Kaweah River, climb on rocks, cool down in the water, or just relax or have a picnic. Great photo opportunities and there's also a frisbee golf course. This connects to the Cobble Knoll Recreation Area which you can also drive to up the road a bit. The parking is free there, and $5 at Slick Rock. It's worth it though. Restrooms available. There's a boat launch but was closed when we went in March. Kids will love exploring here.

This place makes me want to visit my family in Porterville a lot more often!!! This is a little less than an hour away from P-Ville. We found it to kill time before heading to our campground and we wished we came here a lot sooner. Why-because this place is naturally stunning. Nestled between the mountains the river has numerous shallow pools and slides to slide down from into these pools. I'm wondering if that's why it has the name Slide Rock. Although it was rather busy with families galore with the pets, coolers, lawn chairs, and sunbrellas, there's plenty if river to go around. So pick a spot and enjoy the cool river flow especially on a very hot summer day. Be sure to pay for parking though as they were definitely out there eager and quick to hand out tickets for parking violators.

Amazing scenery and easy to walk around. Easy parking and can make the walk as long as you would like.

I think because of COVID, the day parking fee is waived. We went on a Tuesday so it wasn't crowded. The kids had fun exploring the river! People were social distancing. There was a lot of litter. EVERYONE try to pick up your own trash!! This area is a great place so don't leave your trash around! Let's try to preserve the area for future generations! There's public restrooms by the parking entrance.

Great family time and a lot to explore or just sit and enjoy the lake! Kids didn't want to leave at all.

However, Horse Creek was a good introduction to the camping world. At $20 a night, you get your own campsite that can fit up to 8-10 people. We were able to fit about 4 tents. The ground was flat enough to set up camp, and the grounds to eat and chill were spacious enough. As for the bathrooms, the showers are fairly clean and the toilets aren't too shabby either. It seemed like they were cleaned on a daily basis. As for entertainment, the campsite is right near the lake so every morning I woke up to the beautiful sight of nature - the sunset was pretty as well. The lake wasn't too dirty, although I would recommend water shoes. Also, the main office has friendly staff to answer any questions. Ultimately, if you want a campground that's at the bottom of the mountain (it's only 10-12 miles away from the entrance of the Sequoia National Park) that's clean and family-friendly, this place is extremely solid. I highly recommend it.

The sites are RIGHT on the shore of the lake. In fact, the site we reserved was UNDER WATER when we arrived in early May. They're not joking when they say the whole campground is closed in the summer months due to flooding. Thankfully they only allow half the sites to be reserved and they moved us to an open spot, right at the front. It also gave us an easy spot to fish from the shore in the mornings and evenings. I'm glad we chose this campground when finding a weekend getaway. I heard it gets crowded inside the main campgrounds in Sequoia Park. Sites are well spaced out. Each spot had either a canopy or a tree for shade. Of course theres a fire pit too. The bathrooms were sufficient. 1 shower inside, with hot water. The local general store is within a 5 minute drive to get firewood and supplies and Kaweah Marina is close by too to rent a patio boat to enjoy the day on the lake. They will close the gate entrance at 9pm sharp. But you can park in the dirt lot or next to the gate over night. The exit is open all night, but its got those 1 way spike strips... exit only.

The staff walked us through the process on how to use the boats and instructions on basic etiquete on the lake. The email says to only send one person down to get the tutorial and sign paperwork and once you get there you know why lol it's hard to get there and there are a good amount of people renting boats. There are steep steps to get down to the boat docks, no hand rails, and when you're carrying a cooler, small gas grill and fishing gear it gets very tiring. We had a party of four first timers, My mom, myself, and my two boys (14 & 10) and we did the afternoon adventure. EVERYONE had an absolute blast. It was the highlight of our trip and one of the most fun things we have done in years. This really is an adventure. You will be bouncing all over the raft and working in sync as a team to line yourself up for the best past through wild waters. The guides are amazing at keeping everyone locked in and also sharing the beauty of the river. I cannot recommend this excursion enough! Some details on the family option: You drive in to their supervised lot, park your vehicle, and after 30 min of putting on gear and going through instructions you jump in the rafts and go down river for about 4 miles to the lake where you are picked up by a bus and brought back to the lot. The whole trip took about 2.5 hours but I would expect some variance. There were two spots in the run where you can jump in the water and swim around for a bit. One parting thought is that if you are in the area and you see the river you may think you have an idea of what it looks like, but I was truly taken aback by the beauty of the scenery from the perspective of the winding path of the river. You really do get to see a view that is just as unique and special as any park trail.

On the negative side, there are a few sites that weren't level and for the first time in 40 years I was unable to level my 5th wheel. To resolve, they moved us to a different site.
