If you have never been rafting before, all I can say is please find a way to talk yourself into signing up for an afternoon with Kaweah Whitewater Adventures! We had a party of four first timers, My mom, myself, and my two boys (14 & 10) and we did the afternoon adventure. EVERYONE had an absolute blast. It was the highlight of our trip and one of the most fun things we have done in years. This really is an adventure. You will be bouncing all over the raft and working in sync as a team to line yourself up for the best past through wild waters. The guides are amazing at keeping everyone locked in and also sharing the beauty of the river. I cannot recommend this excursion enough! Some details on the family option: You drive in to their supervised lot, park your vehicle, and after 30 min of putting on gear and going through instructions you jump in the rafts and go down river for about 4 miles to the lake where you are picked up by a bus and brought back to the lot. The whole trip took about 2.5 hours but I would expect some variance. There were two spots in the run where you can jump in the water and swim around for a bit. One parting thought is that if you are in the area and you see the river you may think you have an idea of what it looks like, but I was truly taken aback by the beauty of the scenery from the perspective of the winding path of the river. You really do get to see a view that is just as unique and special as any park trail. read more

I'd give 10 stars if possible. It was the first time rafting for both me and my 10 year old kid. This family friendly rafting is extremely fun. With our very experienced guide, Scot, we felt safe the whole time. We got paired up with another first-time-rafter family with a 7 year old kid. None of us fell down in the water in the rapids, although I saw some other rafters falling down from other rafts. Our guide Scot was experienced and extremely knowledgeable about the river. We took the Family Adventure trip with Herra as a guide. He was amazing at instructing is how to paddle as a unit. He was also very efficient at getting a "swimmer" back into the boat when she fell out and was very scared. He kept a close eye on her for the rest of the trip insuring that she didn't fall out again. All communication with booking and schedule changes was really great. Not fun when the guide is nothing but negative, doesn't want anyone having fun, constantly unable to guide the boat from going up on rocks or wrong lines down certain rapids. They had helmets with GoPro mounts, complimentary wetsuits, professional pictures for purchase, thorough safety instructions, and even had a safety boat following our raft for peace of mind. We did the Family Adventure Lower Trip because it was our first time and we had a 8 year old with us. He was understandably a bit scared, but our instructor junior was very accommodating, let him sit in the raft until he felt safe to paddle with us, and overall made the whole thing fun for all of us. Be sure to read EVERYTHING on their website, it tells you everything you need to know and be ready for an extensive safety run down before you even leave their hub. You will get wet, you could be in the water a lot of the time if you don't LISTEN to your guide. We had Junior and he was incredibly knowledgeable and explains everything clearly and explains each rapid you're going down and what to expect and what to do if you do end up going for a swim! Listen to your guides and you'll have a really awesome time down the river. The river has a mind of its own and could be unpredictable but the guides know how to read it so be READY for their commands !!! It's an adrenaline pumping good time and worth every single penny (they should actually charge more IMO)! AND don't be a cheap a**, TIP YOUR GUIDE. My friend and I visited from LA and stayed in a home where we saw several folks water rafter on the river. My mom encouraged us to try it out so we went for it and had SO MUCH FUN! From the very beginning, the folks who work there were super helpful and welcoming. I called ahead of time as this was our first time and asked several questions. They answered all of them with patience. Once we arrived at their location, we were welcomed and Mike introduced himself then pointed us towards where we had to sign the waivers. Again, they were super welcoming, asking us if this was our first time and made us feel right at home. The trip down the river was incredible! I admit that I was a bit scared as there is nothing to hold onto and everyone is required to paddle through when told. Nonetheless, the experience was magical. They walk you through their commands and what you should do when told those commands and make instructions super clear. They explained plans b and c in the case that we did run into issues or were in a pickle. We went with Mine and there was a dad and two teenage daughters (or maybe a bit younger) and we all enjoyed ourselves. Nobody fell out of the raft and we all worked well together with Mike's help. This was an epic ride and I would definitely do it again! We loved hearing the history about the river and learning different things about Mike on our ride down. One thing to note is that when we arrived at the end of our trip on the river, we had to walk through rocks and dirt to carry the raft to the bus. This was a bit hard so be prepared for that! We didn't mind it because we are all about team work and these guys do it so many times. :) read more

These guys are great: Great fun, great whitewater professionals, great hosts. They did their best to keep all families together, which worked out for everyone on the afternoon we visited. Our guide, Finn, put us at ease straight away. I fell out, of course, and he was quick to get me back into the raft. Some of my family were nervous about whitewater rafting, but it was a seriously good thrill ride, even going down the Class 3 rapids. We all loved it, and we felt like we were in good hands.
