We had a party of four first timers, My mom, myself, and my two boys (14 & 10) and we did the afternoon adventure. EVERYONE had an absolute blast. It was the highlight of our trip and one of the most fun things we have done in years. This really is an adventure. You will be bouncing all over the raft and working in sync as a team to line yourself up for the best past through wild waters. The guides are amazing at keeping everyone locked in and also sharing the beauty of the river. I cannot recommend this excursion enough! Some details on the family option: You drive in to their supervised lot, park your vehicle, and after 30 min of putting on gear and going through instructions you jump in the rafts and go down river for about 4 miles to the lake where you are picked up by a bus and brought back to the lot. The whole trip took about 2.5 hours but I would expect some variance. There were two spots in the run where you can jump in the water and swim around for a bit. One parting thought is that if you are in the area and you see the river you may think you have an idea of what it looks like, but I was truly taken aback by the beauty of the scenery from the perspective of the winding path of the river. You really do get to see a view that is just as unique and special as any park trail.

We were lucky enough to make camping reservations at Pine Flat Lake and were in the market for a white water rafting adventure. We came across Mountain Descents, and found their service to be exactly what we needed. Most of my group consisted of beginners; a few of us had gone once or twice before but were novices nonetheless. Our guides consisted of Amicaya and Ivan, in addition to a few other trainees / employees. Everyone was super friendly and did an excellent job preparing us for our excursion. With their excellent guidance, NOBODY FELL OUT OF THE BOAT; a little surprising, if you ask me. The tide was high and the waters were fierce at times, but we had an absolute freakin' blast with the team over at Mountain Descents. Highly recommend!

There is bad stuff going on after hours between the leadership on site and the staff members in keeping pecking order and favorites which bleeds into the actual running of things day & day out. Food isn't kept at proper temperatures & stored properly. The road trip up and down in the bus is just unbelievably allowed to be used despite its requiring people to get all on one side of the bus to keep the bus from tilting in a bad way to get to the need places. I lost my ACL due to being rushed to hurry while disbarking with the many seasons with this company bus driver who lives in his van year around at the ski company up in Mammoth and at this lame place. The couple who managed this location the woman is dark energy big time. Like really yucky fake while piercing looking at people like she has a bug she is killing and power tripping to the max. The worst experience I have ever had in my life was my five days with this staff at their Miramonte, CA location on the Kings River. Be Warned!!!

The King's River Base camp Zephyr has is an all inclusive experience depending on what options you choose to purchase from them. Not only are the guides excellent at navigating the river and tailoring the experience to all levels they are amazing camp cooks too! If you have never been white water rafting before this is the perfect place to get your feet wet, and if you are experienced you will enjoy the ease of rafting with these folks! The guides were exceptional - we were led by Jackson and our guides on the rafts were Scott and Anneke. They gave us all of the important safety information (in a fun, engaging way) and once we were on the rafts they gave us clear direction (forward 1! Back 1!), talked about the rapids and local points of interest while making the trip super fun for everyone. The first time down the rapids helped our group get comfortable with what to expect. And on the second trip down the fun really increased! They let the kids "ride the bull" and get silly (all while feeling super safe!). We're planning to come back for a 2- day trip once all of our kids are old enough. Highly recommend!!!

They were all super personable, fun, and knew each of us by name by the end of it. I'd like to give a shoutout to Junior and Steph and the whole crew! Junior was knowledgable and super funny and what I appreciated about him as our guide on the river was one minute he could be having fun, splashing and joking, but when he needed to could quickly get us to understand it was time to focus on the rapid or work better together without ever feeling like we were being scolded for not knowing what we were doing, it was always in a positive fun way. If I returned I would 100% request Junior as our river guide again ... so long as you want to get wet and I think part of the fun are those oh sh*t moments while still being safe ... and he delivered on those :) Also, the meals were ... way beyond expectations. We are talking steaks, breakfast burritos, and more. Well that was the case for many of these tours. However, I stumbled across Kern River Tours and decided to give them a call. Luckily, they had open spots for us and even gave us a discount for being a first timer! We all saved almost $10!!! The lady over the phone for reservations was super friendly and nice. Since it was our first time, I had a lot, I mean A LOT of questions and she was just so helpful and patient throughout the whole reservation process. It was a quick over the phone reservation and the confirmation email came right away after I booked it. The email is very detailed with the trip and my order but also a list of items I should bring to the trip. It was very informative! Now to the activity. We came and we were instantly greeted by the friendly staff and even if we were a group of 7, after determining that it was safe for all of us on one raft, they let us all be in one which was awesome! Our leader Matt was very experienced and provided us the most smooth yet exciting experience during our II & III Express trip. We had a few fun splashes and Matt did a phenomenal job leading the group. They also had soft drinks ready for us at the bus and also watermelons at the shop upon our return! Awesome customer service! We definitely remembered to tip our team leader. And the best part was that I did not feel pressured to do so which a-lot of these activity places do - pressure you to tip but Kern River Tour did not. That was also awesome. I also bought the pictures during the trip which is pretty cool since you can't really take a selfie when you're on the raft paddling away! They were $50 plus tax - a little over $53 total for 25 images. It may seem overpriced but also who can stand and take all these action photos for you while you paddle away. Overall, the experience was great and I definitely recommend others to try!
