Sequoia national Park is quite the experience, but I want to warn you. There is a very long drive…read moreto get up to see the sequoia trees. I believe it was roughly 45 minutes to get up there to begin to see these trees and the road was very long and windy and at one point I was for sure we were going the wrong way even though there's only one way I was for sure. But after that 45 minute drive up, you begin to see these remarkably tall, beautiful sequoia trees as far as they I can see and each one of them more breathtaking than ever we went during winter so I definitely encourage you to check and make sure that you don't need to bring snow chains because to travel to a lot of the areas in winter and other seasons, you might just need snow chains to make it My family had a great time we spent just a few hours walking around and enjoying the beautiful view the fresh Mountain air and getting a chance to interact with other people traveling from all over the country who had come to visit as well. This is also something you must add to your bucket list because even though we only got to see 1/10 of this park, we already have it put back on our bucket list to go again because there's so much more to see here truly breathtaking views and just a relaxing experience all the way around.

And you get two parks for the price of one!…read more Whether you're coming from Visalia or Fresno, a trip to this double park is an easy day trip and excellent opportunity to get away from the valley fog or smog, breathe in some fresh air and escape into nature. No matter what level of engagement or activity you're looking for, these parks offer beautiful and thrilling scenic drives for the car warriors, lovely short and accessible strolls for those not looking for a hike, and serious high country hiking options for those looking for a challenge or adventure of a lifetime. There are countless hikes to high country destinations, including Mt. Whitney and the Pacific Crest Trail. The largest living tree, General Sherman, resides here. As does a canyon deeper than the Grand Canyon. There are two caverns that are accessible to the public (tickets required for both Boyden and Crystal Caverns). So much to see and do! Please note that if you get motion-sick, some of the roads have sheer drop offs, and hairpin turns. Take it slow and don't forget to use turn outs if you get a line of cars behind you...you will make a lot of friends instantly! Wildlife sightings are common. I've seen black bears, yellow bellied marmots, a fisher, squirrels, deer, cottontails, and countless birds and lizards. I know there are bobcats and mountain lions, but haven't had the honor of seeing either--YET. There's snow in the winter that causes road and facility closures in parts of the park. This area is also prone to severe wildfires (manmade and lightning)....so I prefer to visit in the spring or fall. I've visited in every season, and find that each has its own splendor. I hope you have a chance to visit these parks and that your visit brings you a few moments of wonder, and I have experienced with every visit.

However, Horse Creek was a good introduction to the camping world. At $20 a night, you get your own campsite that can fit up to 8-10 people. We were able to fit about 4 tents. The ground was flat enough to set up camp, and the grounds to eat and chill were spacious enough. As for the bathrooms, the showers are fairly clean and the toilets aren't too shabby either. It seemed like they were cleaned on a daily basis. As for entertainment, the campsite is right near the lake so every morning I woke up to the beautiful sight of nature - the sunset was pretty as well. The lake wasn't too dirty, although I would recommend water shoes. Also, the main office has friendly staff to answer any questions. Ultimately, if you want a campground that's at the bottom of the mountain (it's only 10-12 miles away from the entrance of the Sequoia National Park) that's clean and family-friendly, this place is extremely solid. I highly recommend it.

The sites are RIGHT on the shore of the lake. In fact, the site we reserved was UNDER WATER when we arrived in early May. They're not joking when they say the whole campground is closed in the summer months due to flooding. Thankfully they only allow half the sites to be reserved and they moved us to an open spot, right at the front. It also gave us an easy spot to fish from the shore in the mornings and evenings. I'm glad we chose this campground when finding a weekend getaway. I heard it gets crowded inside the main campgrounds in Sequoia Park. Sites are well spaced out. Each spot had either a canopy or a tree for shade. Of course theres a fire pit too. The bathrooms were sufficient. 1 shower inside, with hot water. The local general store is within a 5 minute drive to get firewood and supplies and Kaweah Marina is close by too to rent a patio boat to enjoy the day on the lake. They will close the gate entrance at 9pm sharp. But you can park in the dirt lot or next to the gate over night. The exit is open all night, but its got those 1 way spike strips... exit only.

We stayed at site number 6, which was pretty huge. I'd definitely recommend this site, with my only complaint being that the lights to the karaoke bar shine in a little bit. One thing to note is that this campground is not for parties. It is definitely a campground where you'll want to talk in your "quiet" voice. Overall, I'd recommend this campground!

Here is some comments: Location: It is about 12 min to the front gate of the park, so super close. The campground is right by HWY 190. You can hear the cars but the traffic noise dies down to almost zero at night. There is restaurant/bar across the street which we found enjoyable especially since it was super hot outside! It had good food and drink. Price: It was very reasonably priced though you have to pay additional money for more than more car which it is due on arrival because you can't pay online for it. Staff/Facilities: The camp manager was very nice and welcoming. The bathroom and showers were clean and maintained. (Hot water too in shower!) Our campground was in the center next to others but we weren't disturbed. I included a camp map to help others with choosing a good spot. I would recommend 7/8 as they are in the back away from everything. Also, there is no potable water and while there is a camp store, it was closed when we were there. There are fire pits at each campsite. Overall, we had a good experience and this is a solid choice if you can't stay in the park. Just be prepared for some driving once you get in the park.

Pros: awesome lake with a beach area for the kids, picnic table and fire pit for each site, rv hookups, variety of lodging (rv, tent, cabin), laundry room, market close by, 8 miles from the Sequoia National park entrance, clean campground, restrooms with showers, small store with wood, ice, snacks, and souvenirs for purchase. Cons: Not many tree shaded rv sites, no WiFi, terrible cell phone service, people bringing glass bottles out to the lake, and trash left by the lake. Aside of the few negatives/cons, we had an overall great experience. Everyone was very friendly, staff was helpful, and we really enjoyed the fact that there was a lake a few feet from our rv. The temperature ranged from 95-102, so the lake was warm and not freezing cold. There was a beach area leading into the lake, and the river was very peaceful and relaxing. We spent most of our time in the water and really enjoyed our stay here. We swam, fired up the grill, and made s'mores at night. Good times. We will definitely be back, except next time we will get a spot with some shade in the summer.

The beach area is our favorite & we couldn't really enjoy it, since there were 2 other families competing with their high volume music, which not everyone enjoys, we all have different tastes in music, & I was there to relax, but ended up with a migraine with the blasted music. The campground should keep the beach music free or tone it down, some of us just want to enjoy the river & relax.

No showers but there are dish washing stations at each restrooms. No water faucets except at the restrooms. Bring bug spray as there were a good number of mosquitoes in May 2024. Trailer owners beware: the road coming in from the main gate close to Three Rivers is very tight and winding. We have a 28 foot camper and it was dicey at times. The spots here are also very tight. They have semi-pull through spots which are better than the backing in spots. If you get a back in spot, it'll take some time, even for the most experienced trailer owners Most of the spots here are NOT level so if you plan on bringing your camper, be ready to use blocks or ramps. Nearest gas station/grocery stores will be at Three Rivers, which is about a 20 minute drive away, so make sure you bring all your necessities and check your propane or you'll be running back out to get more.

We had full, 50 amp hookups and there were no issues through our surge / EMS system. We walked around the park several evenings and other campers were very friendly and respectful. We sat outside all three evenings, one of those at our "neighbors" campsite and noise was Not a problem. There is a newly renovated rec-room, office and store area, along with showers, laundry & pool. We enjoyed the surrounding towns and went into Three Rivers several times. We also discovered the "Woodlake Botanical Garden" that was a very pleasant surprise, just 10 miles away. We will be back!

Between 24-48 hours, they charge the first night plus half of the remaining stay, and under 24 hours they charge the entire reservation. All cancellations must be done by email and confirmed, or they won't count. I have a reservation June 14th and canceled April 15th and my total loss for even considering this park was $135. That's unfair by any standard.
