We opted for site T6, a no hookup site since we have solar and wanted full sun and clear sky for Starlink so we can work. The swimming hole in the river is quite nice, we took our chairs and books down each afternoon and sat in the water to cool off. The approach road, North Fork Drive, is good for an early morning walk or run. We saw deer several times, and a few places have horses. Noise is minimal overall, there were only a few other campers that came and went in the dry camping areas who had generators, and they were all a good distance away. And if you need a few groceries, Village Market in Three Rivers is about seven minutes away - prices what you'd expect, surprising selection of beer and wine, and all the other staples you need. Save room for the BBQ!

As part of our quest to visit all 63 U.S. national parks, we set off on a six week road trip. I…read morehave a personal rule: I only count a national park as "visited" if I actually spend time there, hike or walk through it, and truly experience it. On this trip, we visited 14 national parks, and Sequoia National Park was one of the absolute highlights. The drive into the park is spectacular. Climbing from the valley into the Sierra Nevada, the scenery changes with every curve of the road until suddenly you find yourself surrounded by forests of giant sequoias. It is an unforgettable entrance and sets the stage for everything that follows. We stayed between Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and dedicated five full days to exploring both. It was the perfect amount of time because every day brought new trails, new views, and another reason to stop in amazement. Of course, we visited the famous groves, including General Sherman, the largest tree on Earth by volume. Even though these areas are popular, we purposely visited before schools were out for the summer and avoided weekends, so the crowds were very manageable. Even so, my favorite hikes were the quieter ones, where there were fewer people and it felt like I had the forest almost to myself. There is something deeply humbling about standing among these giants. Some of these trees have been alive for more than 2,000 years. They were already ancient long before our country even existed. I found myself slowing down, placing my hand on their massive trunks, sitting quietly, and simply absorbing the peace of the forest. Whether or not trees have energy is up to each person to decide, but I certainly left feeling calmer, smaller, and full of wonder. Beyond the giant sequoias, the park offers spectacular granite cliffs, rushing rivers, alpine meadows, waterfalls, and an incredible variety of wildlife. Every trail seemed to reveal something different, making each hike feel like its own adventure. Sequoia National Park is more than just a place to check off a list. It is a place to slow down, look up, breathe deeply, and remember just how extraordinary nature can be. If you have the time, don't rush through it. Spend several days exploring both Sequoia and neighboring Kings Canyon. The giant trees may be the stars of the park, but the entire landscape is magnificent. This is one of those parks that stays with you long after you leave.

Boyden Cavern has a super steep walkway entrance. So for those of you with any physical issues it could be a huge problem. (We didn't go inside this trip) The view of the river from this area is lovely. They also have a gift shop with various treasures and bathroom stalls near the parking lot. This part of the road is only open part of the year. From late April to mid November depending on the snow fall level. Definitely bring your own water, snacks and a bag lunch. Can't beat the view!

However, Horse Creek was a good introduction to the camping world. At $20 a night, you get your own campsite that can fit up to 8-10 people. We were able to fit about 4 tents. The ground was flat enough to set up camp, and the grounds to eat and chill were spacious enough. As for the bathrooms, the showers are fairly clean and the toilets aren't too shabby either. It seemed like they were cleaned on a daily basis. As for entertainment, the campsite is right near the lake so every morning I woke up to the beautiful sight of nature - the sunset was pretty as well. The lake wasn't too dirty, although I would recommend water shoes. Also, the main office has friendly staff to answer any questions. Ultimately, if you want a campground that's at the bottom of the mountain (it's only 10-12 miles away from the entrance of the Sequoia National Park) that's clean and family-friendly, this place is extremely solid. I highly recommend it.

The sites are RIGHT on the shore of the lake. In fact, the site we reserved was UNDER WATER when we arrived in early May. They're not joking when they say the whole campground is closed in the summer months due to flooding. Thankfully they only allow half the sites to be reserved and they moved us to an open spot, right at the front. It also gave us an easy spot to fish from the shore in the mornings and evenings. I'm glad we chose this campground when finding a weekend getaway. I heard it gets crowded inside the main campgrounds in Sequoia Park. Sites are well spaced out. Each spot had either a canopy or a tree for shade. Of course theres a fire pit too. The bathrooms were sufficient. 1 shower inside, with hot water. The local general store is within a 5 minute drive to get firewood and supplies and Kaweah Marina is close by too to rent a patio boat to enjoy the day on the lake. They will close the gate entrance at 9pm sharp. But you can park in the dirt lot or next to the gate over night. The exit is open all night, but its got those 1 way spike strips... exit only.

One thing to note is that this campground is not for parties. It is definitely a campground where you'll want to talk in your "quiet" voice. Overall, I'd recommend this campground!

Here is some comments: Location: It is about 12 min to the front gate of the park, so super close. The campground is right by HWY 190. You can hear the cars but the traffic noise dies down to almost zero at night. There is restaurant/bar across the street which we found enjoyable especially since it was super hot outside! It had good food and drink. Price: It was very reasonably priced though you have to pay additional money for more than more car which it is due on arrival because you can't pay online for it. Staff/Facilities: The camp manager was very nice and welcoming. The bathroom and showers were clean and maintained. (Hot water too in shower!) Our campground was in the center next to others but we weren't disturbed. I included a camp map to help others with choosing a good spot. I would recommend 7/8 as they are in the back away from everything. Also, there is no potable water and while there is a camp store, it was closed when we were there. There are fire pits at each campsite. Overall, we had a good experience and this is a solid choice if you can't stay in the park. Just be prepared for some driving once you get in the park.

Aside of the few negatives/cons, we had an overall great experience. Everyone was very friendly, staff was helpful, and we really enjoyed the fact that there was a lake a few feet from our rv. The temperature ranged from 95-102, so the lake was warm and not freezing cold. There was a beach area leading into the lake, and the river was very peaceful and relaxing. We spent most of our time in the water and really enjoyed our stay here. We swam, fired up the grill, and made s'mores at night. Good times. We will definitely be back, except next time we will get a spot with some shade in the summer.
