I recently hired this company to work on my small front yard - I needed weed work, tree stump removal and planting where the stump was removed. The gentleman did an excellent job. I will note that their is some improvement for responsiveness and reliability as I had some trouble there but I personally wasn't in a rush and the quality service definitely trumped it. Homeowner beware! If I could give this company zero stars I would and I am not one to be to harsh on a company. I found this company on an app- Thumbtack- Initially, all things went well. The owner, Max, was nice and had some great ideas for our backyard. Boy were we fooled, this guy is a complete fraud. Do not trust him at all. He is a complete crook. Did not finish up our project, left it incomplete (a fence job mind you that his guys screwed up). We had a large expensive job for him, but after his complete crap job on our other project we decided against using him. He then tried to keep a portion of our deposit, stating industry standard is 72hrs notice or its non-refundable. Really? I called the week before, texted we needed to talk and you ghosted me for five days. It was then I decided you were a flake and I was not going to use you. How about you call or communicate like a real business owner, not some fly by night crooked thief. The only way to get him to refund me my whole deposit was to tell him he didn't have to complete my project. I didn't even want him back to our home. He stole $200 from us to replace our gate that he ruined & never replaced the gate and stole $25.00 that I paid him to remove some old wood and they left it and never took it...If you use this company, do not say you were not warned!!!! Update: I guess Max now also has a legal background I knew nothing about since he just called and threatened legal action due to my review. I guess its slander now when you post poor reviews to a business that deserves it. My advice- don't treat clients poorly and do crappy work, your reviews will be better. read more

Booked through Thumbtack for landscaping services. Received a quote. Paid a $1k deposit right away to secure my date and time several months in advance. Called a month in advance to see if we could reschedule services and found out they had gone out of business. They were still completing services for booked clients. Assured services would be completed. Called to schedule my new service and have been ghosted. It's been weeks with no response. Do not send them any money. They will not complete the work. I'll have to go through Thumbtack, BBB and possibly other avenues to try to get my money back. And they are doing this to families during this hard time. Just sick! read more

The only reason why we are giving 3 stars is Max's flexibility with my work schedule since I work from home. We hired them almost a year ago- May 2018. If it weren't for that it would be less. I should've stuck with my gut when originally reading reviews for this company but decided to book him to give a small business a chance. The first few services were good, nothing spectacular. After a couple of months, in July, his crew began to miss scheduled days and when I would contact Max and state there were staffing issues. I fully understand staffing issues but it would be common courtesy to shoot an email or a text to your clients to let them know that there is a delay in the service day. In late July his crew missed a good chunk of our back lawn, I sent Max a photo and his response was "I can't really tell but I'll send him back over there on Thursday to fix it" then followed with "pictures suck when it comes to landscaping." He then blamed it on how they tried to hire two people but they never showed up to do the job so the guy who was doing the landscaping was rushing and trying to catch up. Definitely frustrating, but again I understand staffing issues and didn't make a deal out of it. Then on August 7th, his crew did not show up for services at all. I sent over a text to Max and he said they weren't going to make it in time. Again, a courtesy text would have been helpful. August 20th I had asked for our weeds to be sprayed since they were getting a little out of control, he responded with yes they would be sprayed. On August 22nd, I noticed that our weeds were still visibly in our back yard so I sent Max a message stating how the weeds were still visible and they were not sprayed. I will attach a screen shot of the convo along with photos of the yard- I was baffled by his response. They eventually came out a sprayed accordingly and the weeds were gone, like they should've been gone the first time. Next comes Sept 6th, 2018. We heard a loud bang and then the sound of cracking. The team shattered our back sliding glass door. I immediately called Max to let him know and he assured me it would be taken care of. Max's response was great but what through us for a loop is not one of his crew members stopped to apologize for the inconvenience, they just kept working. My dogs like to stare out the back door when the crew is servicing the yard. They are very lucky that the rock only shattered one window pane and didn't go through the second and injure one of our dogs. Later that day Max had called me frustrated cause his crew lost a piece of equipment. I checked our front, back, and side yards and let him know that it was not left here- he then said ok then abruptly hung up on me. I was just about done after that. Very unprofessional and rude. After getting someone to come out and take a look at our window the window company let us know it would be about two weeks for the window to be ordered since it was custom. 2 weeks later still no window. I contacted the glass company directly and they said the window had been discontinued but they didn't bother to tell Max or myself that they would not be able to complete the job. This does not have anything to do with Max, it was just entirely frustrating. Max called another company and in 5 days they measured the window and had it fully installed which was great. The only other great thing that came out of going with this company was the schedule flexibility and then my husband and I ran into some financial distress with a medical bill. I asked Max if we could split up the payment and he had no problem with it at all. If he did have an issue I would have forked up the money and paid in full if need be. On Friday Dec 14th, my husband and I decided to end the services with this company - it was just too much money out of our pockets for a job we can do ourself; it just wasn't financially reasonable for us. Advised him we would make our payments by the end of January. On January 18th, I received a text from Max stating "Is there any way I can collect a payment today? I am in a very bad position right now." Granted this was the middle of the month, so I had no problem paying it since I told him we would pay by the end of January, it was $30. However, it is not professional to text your clients for a payment because you're in a bad situation. Max however sent out two different online invoices which led to confusion and a delayed payment of $70. We thought we were all paid off but there was another invoice floating around in our email with a diff price- we only noticed because he sent it again just this morning. We had no problem paying it, it was just a pain having two different invoices be sent out with two different balances which led to confusion. It doesn't make sense to have two different online invoices with two different amounts. I would not recommend this company for services. The price is cheap but you definitely get what you pay for.. read more

My backyard had a ton of debree (mainly dead trees and tree branches accumulated over several years) and I needed it hauled away asap. Max was very quick to call me and arrives within minutes to give me an estimate. He quoted me roughly an hours worth of work, which I thought was very generous with the pricing. It turns out the actual job took almost 3 hours as I watched him and his crew continuously working nonstop without letting up. I offered them water since they were so hard at work. At the end Max did a good job of leaving the place tidy and cleaned up. He also honored his original quote, without asking for a single penny more. I felt he deserved a little more so we threw an extra amount in for the hard work they put in and went on their way. Honestly if it was possible to rate lower than one star I would. As other people have stated, I should have gone with my gut and not hired this company. I was told at the beginning when initially hiring them that they were not a "mow and blow" company. With as awful as their service has been over the past 18 months I would have been grateful for a blow and mow minimum because even the most basic tasks weren't up kept. Max and his crew were hired to provide service to my property every other week. In the last year I would be lucky if they showed up once a month. There was no communication when his crew decided not to show up and most importantly there was no change to my monthly invoice was services not performed. If I had proof that the company had not been by in several weeks which usually only required a quick glance at my lawn I would reach out to the company and receive an excuse blaming anything from the weather, to lack of employees, to not wanting to make the employees work overtime. I even got a text once that said Max was making his employees work overtime in order to get all the properties done and wasn't I lucky I wasn't being charged for that? I couldn't believe the audacity! I understand weather and employee issues. But I do not control either the company nor the weather and regardless of the reason I expect communication when services can not be provided and I expect that to be reflected in my monthly invoices. Nine times out of ten it was not reflected. And when adjustments were made it was not due to honesty on the company's part it was because I had the energy that month to call them out of their lack of service to my property. Apples and fruit left not picked up in the summer, leaves not tended to in the fall, weeds left to grow as they please, lawns not cut for weeks, hedges and edges not trimmed. In the past 18 months if I would have told anyone I had a gardener they would not have believed me- that's how poorly the quality of service has been. The point of this review is to share the dishonesty of this company and to hopefully prevent anyone else from going through the turmoil I have been through. read more

In order for him to see my back yard, I had to leave my gate unlocked. As far as I know, he never showed to do the estimate, and certainly left me hanging and did not come to do my yard that Friday as promised. This shows total lack of respect, consideration, or professionalism of others and their time. Why would you make an appointment and not keep it? It takes less than 2 minutes to either call or text someone and let them know you are not able to keep an appointment, and will allow the person to make other arrangements. Seems to be a recurring thing with this "business", but more importantly with this persons integrity, or lack thereof. If you value your time and need something done by a specific time, I'd look elsewhere. read more

They did a great job removing a large fallen tree in my back yard which blew over during a rainstorm. I talked to Max (the owner) to clarify some of his negative previous Yelp reviews and he reassured me that he has turned the company around. Judging by his results with my tree job, I'd say he has. Max with TreeMax was great. We lost a tree and fence in a storm. He was very communicating and did great work. I called 5 companies to have a tree and stump removed and he was the best in prices. His work was quick, precise and exactly what he said. He sent a crew out on a separate day to do the stump removal and they were equally as professional, diligent and polite. Max even removed the fence and hauled it away that we lost when our tree fell. All in all, he did all of the work that would have taken two companies and he was cheaper to do EVERYTHING (tree, stump and fence removal) than other companies quoted to just remove the tree. Max has worked for for awhile now. WHEN he keeps his appointments he does decent work. Unfortunately Max doesn't understand the concept of communicating with his clients. He's been given many chances to make things right. And even got him some extra work with my landlord. But at the end if the day. The only improvement I've seen are with the number of excuses he can up with. I understand running a business is difficult, but if you have a client that is patient and supportive of small local business, and repeatedly gives you another chance. You may want to make a better effort to not drop the ball. I ask 2 simple things from you. Make sure you secure my gate so my dogs don't get out, and communicate. I would give half a star if that were possible. These guys are not the guys you want doing your trees, provided your trees are important to you. They used spikes to climb my trees and the damage was very evident. I believed they overcharged and gave very bad advise. ( They wanted to cut down a healthy Live Oak tree that was clearly not dead for $ 3,500.00!) No thanks. They also left pieces of mistletoe in the base of another tree. . ( didn't bother to clean up after themselves) Their work is mediocre and they charge too much for too little work. These guys seem to be on the lazy side. One of these guys cut a main branch on one of my Black Oak trees that added to the tress already distressed state. Read plenty reviews before committing to a tree trimmer! Spend a little more and get an arborist, if feasible. In the long run it is worth it to hire a pro! read more

Max the owner of this biz is a 19 yr old kid. While he is well meaning and well mannered, he hasn't yet figured out the biz end of things. And his prices don't match the finish work or depth of experience he brings. Starting with time management; If Max said he'd be there at 9am, at 10am I'd have to call and ask when he planned to arrive. I paid Max $1300 to do some minor work to my front and backyard. $800 was the 1st installment for the front. After completing the front, when he came to complete the back (I uncovered tree stumps in the front that should have been removed, but had instead been covered over with dirt to conceal them. Far too many of them, for it to have been simple oversight. Much of the time that should have been spent on the backyard was spent redoing what should have already been done in the front. Max leaves 98% of the work to Frank (the much older experienced portion of this operation.) Frank is very nice and well intention-ed, but clearly past the prime of being left to complete such labor intensive work ALONE. If you are looking for simple lawn mowing and very basic work that does not require much labor, then Frank is your guy. And he's really good with tree trimming. Max just shows up for payment or when Frank calls him and complains about being left alone too long. Aside from something small and basic, you should find a more experienced crew. And when you mention to Max that any payment over $600.00 requires that he be issued a 1099, be prepared for the "I'm just a 19 year old kid speech" and issue the 1099 anyway! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just after posting this review, Max texted to say "low blow, thanks for your biz." Maximum was installing concrete for my neighbor, my small area (2x30) was an add on, so I received a decent low price. Simple, nothing extravagant. The company delayed 3x to start the project. Finally scheduled the crew to dig out the 4" of dirt and form the same day as the truck coming with concrete. The digging was not complete. The crew rushed to place forms and poured the concrete, no rebar. within hours the concrete started to crack. The owner admitted it was not done correctly when he visited a couple days later. With many text and 1 phone call, I have heard several excuses as to the delay to remedy the situation. A crew came by a couple days ago to take out the bad concrete and dig out the area to prep for another pour. Still no word on when it will be done. I am now in the process of selling my house with an open hole next to my driveway. I need this fixed now!! If this is corrected soon, I will retract my review. read more

I don't usually leave reviews for many things, but, when someone goes out of there way to make things right I have to give credit where it is due. My wife and I gave max a call on a Sunday not expecting to hear back until the following day, but no, Max came out on a Sunday at no charge and was able to give me an honest and very reasonable price to clear a very entangled piece of ivied chain link fence, while he was onsite he even gave me great advice for my aging cherry and orange trees and also gave me excellent advice on my yard care to help get rid of the mosquitos which was very helpful. Then the actual work began. When Max started it was originally just to clear but then as the day wore on, I asked Max can you just remove the fence so I can replace it myself, Max not only gave me a response and quote within minutes but it was fair and the work was done exceptionally well with the help of his crew in a matter of hours, not only did Max communicate extraordinarily well through out the entire process whether it was calls or texts, but even as neighbors came by as they do from time to time, he was very courteous and respectful which is rare. To put it shortly, Max handles his business and is a great asset to my property, knowing that a fair quote is provided knowledgefully gives me the faith to not have to look for three or four bids every time I have to have work done in my yard. Max and his crew did an absolutely fabulous job on what was a horribly difficult front and back yard that had turned into a 'field' of sorts!! They cleaned up all of the weeds and even took out overgrown ivy in one of our planters and replaced with bark for a respectably low fee. When Max started out he was terrific. He has a great personality, and said all the right things. Based on a good initial front and backyard clean up job (sadly, my original gardener passed unexpectedly) I hired Max to come weekly to mow, blow and do clean up as needed. Things started out great. Then Max seemed more interested in selling me on more and more services like tree trimming, gutter cleaning and lawn painting. On the work he was hired to do for me....things turned not so good. He was supposed to come weekly, but it was a rare month when that actually occurred without my prompting. I called Max more than once "to chat". Q: Are you coming this week to do my yard? A: Oh, I'm on my way right now. Q: So you are coming this week? I noticed you didn't come last week. A: The wheel on my mower broke. Q: It looks like you haven't been here in a while. A: Yes, it's been raining. Rain ruins my equipment. Q: Well when it rains the leaves need to be cleaned up - right? A: Oh, my guys don't like working in the rain. Q: Along with the mowing you need to do some raking, all those Camellia's are still rotting on the ground. A: Oh, I didn't know you wanted that done, I can do that. Unfortunately, I had to let Max go. It cost me $180 for the new gardener to come in and do a front and backyard clean up. My neighbor even asked what was going on, because my yard has always been so neat (my original gardener's work) - how embarrassing!! I'm sure Max is a good kid, but at this point this seems to be just a job, and not a profession to him. read more
