I am waiting on some of my seedlings to start flowering, but I wanted to be able to offer a better variety of food to pollinators in the meantime. I ended up stumbling on a lovely Gaillardia Mesa Peach! I had never seen one of these before. I loved seeing a native Indiana pollinator enjoying the flower so much. I love the look of the flower and decided to grab two of the 4" plants for my balcony garden. I had just been using a pair of kitchen scissors for my garden shears and I have been gardening with bare hands. I did not like the first pair of gardening gloves I had bought elsewhere, but I found myself pleasantly surprised with how well the gloves fit me here. I decided to get a pair of gardening gloves too, to at least try to save my nails in the future, along with actual garden shears. My mouth almost dropped open when I was told that the total was under $40! I was so surprised, I checked the receipt. Nothing was missed, the price was just that good. I fear my gardening game has been lacking in previous years before going to local garden centers rather than national chains. I hope I will have more room next year and I can pick up a fruit tree and some vegetables and herbs, because that selection was likewise fantastic and plentiful.

We visited yesterday and had too much luck finding all sorts of items for our spring garden. We purchased lavender, Delphinium, marigolds, lots of herbs, lilac bushes, and several other items. The staff is super friendly and helpful. You will also find potting items, trees, bushes, small gifts and several vegetables available. I'm always impressed by the fun and engaging events that they host here throughout the year. For example, coming up for Mother's Day, they are hosting a potting workshop for kids to make gifts for mom. This week, I was on a mission to find creeping phlox for a new garden bed in my yard. (My mother had phlox in the yard when I was growing up, so it brings back memories.) I called and they immediately said yes, they had some. The parking lot was packed when I arrived mid week. People had carts filled with annuals. A clerk et me in the parking lot and knew exactly where to send me for the phlox. The greenhouses are immense and pristine. The plants are beautiful and healthy. They had the phlox that I was looking for in three different colors. I picked the lavender. There were lots of beautiful hanging baskets and yard decor that was tempting, but I resisted. Check out was easy in the main building. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the plants. Three days later, the phlox is thriving in my yard.

Even at midday Tuesday, the lot was filled with folks selecting from the annuals, perennials, and vegetable plants from the numerous greenhouses on the campus. There is a limited parking lot that is located by the front greenhouse which also serves as the checkout center. A driveway on the north of the building is the one to pull into and allows you to head along the rest of the buildings where you can park by pulling into the angle parking or using the larger lot near the rear. (Note that there is a small drive between two buildings that allows you to turn to the south drive to exit.) There are flatbed wagons that you can use to load your plant selections on while you browse through the sheds. If you are getting more than one of an item, you can make use of the plastic shipping trays to load your choices so that they are less likely to fall off your cart. Generally speaking, you will find veggies to the north of the first shed, perennials in the next few, and annuals towards the rear. The plants we have purchased over the years have looked very healthy and well cared for. The staff is generally helpful in finding a specific type of plant, but even they can be stumped sometimes and may need to ask one of their coworkers. Still, they have good teamwork and are willing to help you find what you want. All in all, a nice selection of plants. Not the cheapest around, but they seem to be in better condition than what I've found at the big box stores. They also seem to have a better selection too! Review #2543
