After growing tired of the overpriced casino restaurants--and after the casino had already taken enough of my money--I ventured out one morning in search of something different. That's when I stumbled upon Maxie's, a hidden gem tucked away at the far end of the pedestrian walkway just outside The LINQ, near the High Roller Ferris wheel. It has a classic diner vibe, with outdoor seating, counter seating at the bar, and a spacious dining room. The menu features all the diner favorites, along with milkshakes, malts, cocktails, beer, and wine. The prices aren't exactly cheap, but they're noticeably lower than the casino restaurants--and the food is well worth it. The service was fast and friendly too. I ordered the World Famous Eggs Benedict Box, a creative twist on the classic. A hollowed-out bread bowl is stuffed with cheese, bacon, and spinach, then topped with perfectly poached eggs and rich hollandaise sauce. Every bite had the perfect balance of flavors, and I enjoyed every last one. My crew ordered the croissant French toast, club sandwich, breakfast burrito, and Denver omelet. Everyone was so happy with their meal that we decided on the spot to come back for breakfast the very next morning. I'm not sure what witchcraft went into toasting that bread inside and out, but this tasted like a giant egg in a hole, and I am here for it. Potatoes weren't crispy. Luckily the toast was great. My husband got chicken and waffles- the chicken was good, and the waffle was okay. The service was terrible. We sat down and weren't served or talked to for several minutes. Then when we finally ordered, half the drinks we ordered were forgotten and there was no one coming around to refill our coffee and water. My friends and I decided to try this place for breakfast. The only available seating was outside or at the bar. We chose the bar which wasn't a good idea if you want good service. The place wasn't super busy which was good. The bartender was not very engaging. We had to ask his name. When we asked about coffee options he didn't know what we meant by that. First time coming here and it wasn't my fav. Our server didn't have a great attitude which always makes for a not so pleasant experience. I got the Crispy Fried Sandwich and it was pretty bland, the chicken could use more seasonings. My friend got the Gardein burger and it was also bland. It's right in the midst of the glitz on the Linq walk and right next to the High Roller, the sky wheeling Eye of Las Vegas. And yet it's a cozy little gem of an entertainment value. One pix, because that's all I stopped for: The $3 Frozen Margarita. $4 if you top it off with a tequila float. And it happens all day long, from open to close, each and every day according to my lovely, friendly bar meisterin... and not a poker machine in sight. Who says value is dead in our glimmering oasis among the mountain tops? I'll be back for my $4 cup of VIVA again. Perhaps, next time, I'll even order some of the well presented breakfast, lunch, and dinner morsels on the nicely focused bistro favorites menu. And perhaps I'll see you there, too, my friends. I'll probably be wearing the blue headdress and decidedly more than the man-kinis you might see at the other end of the Linq walk. Cheers! So... I'm back for brunch, because... job interview . And while I bided my time, I thought I'd extend my review to cover some food. That's when the Benedict Box jumped off the posters, and onto my plate. It's a $19 brunch experience, but so are most family restaurant items these days. There are also a plethora of other reasonably priced offerings here. As for the box, I say, "once again into the breach me hearties!" I'd do this box again. All of the elements of spinach, tomatoes, poached eggs, Hollandaise sauce, BACON, and a quarter loaf of hollowed out (and somehow toasted inside & out) bread were all well represented. And each brought favor to the party... even the bread. They must be making the sauce by the vat back there, because I think I got a whole cup. Nom, nom! The egg whites were 100% firm, and the yolks 100% runny (not an easy poaching feat), so they added lots more to the richness of the lightly, yet well seasoned spinach than the half-done whites, and half-hard yolks you sometimes get elsewhere. While the nicely cured, thickly sliced, and expertly cooked bacon, and tomatoes added the smokehouse depth that Canadian bacon often brings, but in much more profound quantities. The bread even had a flavor, it wasn't just a large, white chunk of stagecraft; it was sweet, savory, and perhaps house made, all on its own. Had I not been on my way to interview for a job where I strap people into harnesses, and fly them high above the LINQ Walk to the High Roller, I would've tried the $5 Bloody Mary... oh well, life is long (I hope), so maybe I'll report on that one next time... after work of course. Until then... stay on the sunny side my friends, and if you're feeling a bit more on the poached than usual, stop in at Maxie's for a Benedict Box. I might be at the corner seat, outside, at the bar to say, "Hello!" Cheers! Interview over (I think I got the job ). So, I'm back for the $5 Tito's Bloody Mary which is well balanced, lightly spicy, rimmed with salt, and celery seeds, and garnished simply with an olive, and a wedge of lime. Not fancy, but effective with a generous pour of Tito's. As with everything else I've had, and seen here at Maxie's, it's the maximum fun with the minimum fuss possible. And that's both the essence of both show biz, and Kaizen (the art of doing what needs not be done). That's the trifecta, and with that... I rest. This time we were staying at the Linq and it's a short walk (10mins from our hotel door to their doors) located in the promenade right under the High Roller (big wheel), we were alway sat pretty quick with usually no wait. The food was really good, lunches had large portions and everything had great prices, and that combo is hard to find on the strip. It's American style diner food, so nothing "fancy" but we found it to be consistent and always delicious. All our servers were friendly and super accommodating to any changes. I was craving a turkey club but also fried zucchini but didn't really need 2 full dishes so I decided to use my free-will and ask if I could possibly pay to upgrade my side to a small amount of zucchini fries cause I didn't want a full order and she responded with "of course no problem", and it was a pretty low up-charge. Win! Our breakfasts were pretty basic, normal sized portions, but very good, and a super low price point. It was refreshing cause I don't need a $40 breakfast that could feed 3 people like some places are serving. BONUS- they also sold gallons of water for cheap that we brought back to our room. To start off, I'm not usually someone who leaves reviews, but I felt the need to share this experience. On Thursday, March 5th, my husband and I went to Maxie's. Our visit started off a little rough when our coconut shrimp came out burnt. However, we spoke with the manager, Leah, and she completely turned our experience around. She went above and beyond to make things right. Leah had our food remade, and it ended up being the best coconut shrimp I've ever had. Her professionalism and kindness really stood out, and because of her we will definitely be coming back. We walked by this place and was intrigued about the eggs, Benedict box. We ordered the one that was recommended by the waitress, as well as another recommendation for biscuits and gravy. When you say white gravy, I am sold as a Texan. The eggs Benedict unfortunately was not good. The only good thing about it was the poached egg which was perfect, but there was way too much spinach no flavor and way too much bread that was soggy, and the outside of the box was hard.
