I had gotten Mike's name from a friend who had used him in the past. A Word of mouth referrals always means a lot! Michael was familiar with and willing to install several brands as opposed to a few other companies that only seem to sell one brand. He also didn't make me sit through an hour long presentation about why his company and products were the best (my time is valuable and I had sat through one too many gimmicky presentations from other HVAC companies in town already so I was really grateful to skip that). His price was THE best out of all the companies I got estimates from. We had two HVAC brands in mind and also wanted a Nano filter (UV light that kills mold/bacteria inside the blower unit). We weighed the benefits of both brands with Michael and proceeded with what he suggested (we had also had an upstate HVAC friend independently confirm it was a good choice). We got the quotes in July 2020 and Michael told us that prices would go down in winter if we could hold off for a few months. He was right- we got a better price in early December. They also put in the Nano bulb which will get replaced every two years. I think this is a nice feature for Charleston area homes where mold can be a real fear. Installation day came and everything went smoothly! Three guys came and it took about 5 hours from start to finish. They worked clean, were thoughtful, and took their time. Michael and Phillip answered a few questions I had along the day. Bonus points for all of them acknowledging my dog throughout the day who is always both totally exhilarated and completely stressed when workman are here

Then they had to wait from the warranty co for approval. Then we waited for the unit which the warranty company chose to purchase. All of this took weeks which was frustrating but I always found the staff of Action Air to be responsive. Sometimes it took a couple of contacts but they never took more than a couple of days to get back to us. When we were finally told the unit was in, we were able to schedule quickly and everything is fine. I did have to ask for my paperwork on the unit. They should provide that as soon as your repair is done. They would definitely be a company I would use again. Chastity and Alicia are very good at returning calls.

Not as impressed as everyone else seems to be with Coastal Air Plus. Five year old heat pump went…read moreout on a Wednesday. Worked on my own very old A/C system several times with my small business, so I already knew the evaporator fan motor was out and causing the heat pump outside to freeze up. Called Coastal Air and Jay came out that day. Jay was very polite and professional and confirmed my diagnosis. He confirmed the motor was still under warranty (parts only). He quoted me a price of $519 and said a technician could arrive the next day between noon and 5 PM to repair it. At 4:55 the next day we received a call that it would not be until the following day due to "manpower issues". It was crazy hot so we were not happy but pretty much stuck. The tech did arrive the following day, charged us $519 for 45 minutes of labor and left. Maybe that is the going rate for AC repairs, but it seemed pretty pricy to me. The instructions to the technician were to remove the outside panel, remove the screws to the motor housing and remove the bolts securing the fan. The unit is entirely outside the house with easy access, no air handler to mess with. I think I'll look elsewhere the next time I have a heat pump issue.

The service techs were always polite, knowledgeable and courteous. If there was an issue with our units, they would suggest a few options we could do and the prices were never outrageous. This past weekend, we had an issue. The outside temps reached 117F, and we woke up Sunday morning to a leak in my kitchen...the furnace is right above the kitchen area and it was pouring out of a pot light..what a mess...I got on the phone with Brian, and he gave me a few solutions and we made an appointment for them to come out..they couldn't come out on Sunday but we were scheduled for Monday! I spoke to him a few times Sunday, sending pictures and explaining what was going on and we followed his suggestions and within a couple hours, the leak stopped!! I am so thankful that I was able to cancel my Monday appointment. Everything was running perfectly...I am super happy with the service Brian gave me. He even called this morning to make sure we didn't need him..if I ever have any issues with my furnace/AC unit, I will be calling Brian's Mechanical for sure!!!
