Technician claimed that there was nobody he could call on a Saturday at noon to help solve a diagnostic disagreement. Technician claimed that the intermittent problem was caused by water drain ALTHOUGH there was NO standing water or even moisture in the pan. The charge for a 30 minute cleaning of the drain was $263 on top of the $150 service charge. My position with the technician was if that didn't solve the problem I would file for a refund. I will definitely find someone else in the future. read more

These people are shady. Stay far away. Shoddy placements of vents. Places large duct in the way of attic trap door and storage areas. After their visit; there are holes in the ceiling they they would not fix. placed a vent on vaulted ceiling ruining the appearance and also impossible to replace the dirty filter because it is so high on the ceiling. Also, now there is black soot or something coming out of the vents turning the ceiling and blinds black. There is also a smell of something dead in the vents. read more

So my home's AC stopped blowing cold air. I messaged Carolina Climate Control for a service call estimate. After about 30 minutes I got a text saying service call charge was $79, but would be applied to any repair costs and to call them for an appointment. I called and explained the issue, but was told someone would call me back to schedule. Over an hour went by and no one called me, so I called back. Appointment was set and David B. showed up timely; he was professional and friendly. He determined my fan was dead and roughly estimated $500 to replace. Seemed like an expensive bandaid for a 14 year-old unit, so I decided best to just replace it. Next day Travis B. came to give me an estimate for a new unit. He was on time, friendly and professional. Gave me a quote before he left and it was just under $6K for new Ruud 14 seer unit. They took the $79 service call cost off the total (after I reminded them). Two days later the installers showed up on time to get my AC going. They were professional and it took them about 8 hours to complete the job. HVAC has worked fine since install. Only negative is they dripped something on my garage floor (I assume oil from the old air handler unit or from the lift they used to install the new one) that stained the floor all the way across my garage. I initially thought it was just water and would dry/disappear, but nearly two weeks later it's still there. But at least I have cold air! read more

We had a contract with another company to repair a down Carrier system. The other company came out took our system apart said they had to get parts from Carrier --- would be about a week. In the meantime, unknown to us, CCC absorbed the company we were dealing with. After about 2 weeks of not hearing from our old company I called the company and they informed me of the transition. I was able to get the service man we had been dealing with on the phone and he said that under the circumstances he could no longer legally do work for us. He did say, however that he had informed CCC about the job and the open account and he would remind them about it and have them call me. Another week or ten days passes -- Crickets. I have called a couple times and have had No response. This all started at the front of our cold front Before Thanksgiving!!!!! It is now 4-January, we STILL HAVE NO HEAT AND IT's GETTING COLD. So, would I recommend this company -- HELL No!!!!! I'd recommend staying as far away as you can. read more

We had a very bad experience with this company. They did not install my hvac unit properly, prompting to have the TXV valve (retention valve) blocked and disabled. After they charged over 4 or 5 service visits to finally tell me that the actual repair of the unit was going to be around $3,000 and would not be covered by any warranty. Turns out, that because of the poor effort during installation, it voided any warranty. After many calls and effort to see if they were able to help me, they are now ghosting me and of course, not willing to make things right. If you end up hiring them, make sure you keep on top of their job because most of the times, I catch them just sitting and waiting in my attic. read more

After paying $79 for a service call (which took 2 visits to diagnose issue--he said it was a bug the first visit) on a new HVAC unit they installed only 2 years prior, the service technician arrived on another weekday at 10:07 am to install the part which was still under warranty. At 10:45 he came to my door for payment on his labor charge. $807.36 for 38 minutes of labor. I called the manager to inquire about the ridiculous "labor only" charge and was told that was the price. read more

Our HVAC unit had been giving us problems for the past year or more. We've had it repaired and refilled the refrigerant a couple times. I highly recommend Carolina Climate Control. They respond quickly and act swiftly. The total experience was one of the most pleasant that I've had in dealing with contractors over the past 40 years. This is customer service at it's finest! Grey Mullinax and the four man install crew were competent, professional, and friendly. I hired them to replace two old HVAC systems and install two systems: a 2-ton variable speed split system for upstairs and a 3-ton heat pump for downstairs. First, Grey came out to estimate the job and spent enough time to truly understand what I wanted. He gave me good advice that saved me some money and then quoted me a reasonable price. He also came up with an excellent solution to a problem I was having in the master bedroom. After reviewing some other estimates, I hired Carolina Climate Control the next day. The crew came two days later. Stephen, Mark, Will, and Tommy showed up on time and went right to work. We looked over the job together and then they went to their trucks and got tools. They were removing the two old systems within 10 minutes of arrival. They brought the new equipment in two trucks with two trailers and an additional pickup truck and left with the old units and the trash. The four guys were very friendly and professional. They did excellent work, were efficient and the results were beautiful. There was never a wasted moment and they finished the work in one day; they finished up, cleaned up, and were gone by 3:30. The house was already cool and dry by the time they left. I had them install two Trane systems with two new Trane thermostats. My wife and I are very happy with the new systems and the air in the house is exceedingly pleasant. The systems respond swiftly to changes and even reach all the way into the FROG at the far end of the house. Additionally, the new systems are whisper quiet and the only sound is the slight whooshing of the air flowing from the vents. At the end the service supervisor, Ray, came out to make sure everything was working to my liking. He helped me adjust the new thermostats and explained some of the finer functions. He was also extremely professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I would have the whole crew over for barbeque! I wish all companies, from appliances vendors to restaurants to Ubers, would operate on the level of professionalism and deep customer service that is demonstrated by Carolina Climate Control. If it seems like I am a little stunned by the experience, you're correct. I've grown cynical in my old age and I usually expect a fight and only half the value and quality for which I pay. In this case, I got more than my money's worth and I could not be more pleased that everything went so well; I love it when things work out for the better! We called Carolina Climate because our compressor on our roof unit froze up. They sent a man out and he did an analysis and said that he was absolutely certain that the thermal expansion valve TXV was defective and needed to be replaced. the part was under warranty but the labor cost, approximately 4 hrs, and that included a lb or two of freon, if needed , the cost between $1600 and $1800 plus tax. This unit is 5 years old, so we called a second company to come in for a second opinion. they found that the duct work had separated from the trunk line and that had caused the machine room to get so cold that it froze out the lines on the compressor. they repaired the problem and the cost was $300. I would strongly urge anybody looking for an HVAC company to consider carefully using this company. the man who delivered the bad news,"replace the TXV for almost $2000", was so sincere and believable that we, seasoned homeowners were fooled. beware and spread the word. read more

When my HVAC gave out only a few months after purchasing my home, they provided a reasonable quote and walked me through the issues and the repairs needed. I got several quotes from other companies and they were by far the most genuine, professional, and friendly. They came out the next day and installed a new unit and replaced the duct work in 3 hours. 3 months after the new install and duct work, I came home from vacation to my unit not working. I called CCC and they came out that day, replaced my thermostat (the culprit of the issue) and only charged me for the price of the thermostat since it was so close to the install. This company totally blows! The spent 3 appointments trying to rip me off, trying to charge me 460 to recharge my air conditioning. The last service man even told me I could save money by purchasing my own freon. So I go out and buy my own Freon and I get told over the phone it can't be used because of yada yada. Then the lady that answers to the phone accused my wife of swearing at her and yelling at her. Get this My wife was calling from her classroom with kids in it, so she would neither yell nor curse. Called on Wednesday and they were out on Thursday to take a look at my AC unit. Ray found the problem very quickly told me that a wire had burned out and that he would replace it. Before he left the house was already starting to feel better and we were very grateful to not have to sleep in an 85 Degree house another night. Ray was very personable and obviously knowledgeable plus our dogs really liked him which is a tall tale sign anyways. I thought it was a bit expensive to replace a wire at 280 bucks but based off the reviews on here I knew they were the right company because it seems like this is a place that has integrity and great craftsmanship. Our air conditioning unit died by the second day of 85 in my house I had enough set up 2 estaminets the first was Carolina Comfort control . I set with one company between 1-3 was the only appt. well I called Carolina comfort control they said they would be there at 10 . Grey was the the person coming out for the quote . It was all me setting this up my husband was working . So Grey was running a few minuets last but he called me before hand so no problem . Mind you this is all the same day so Grey got there was very nice walked me through every step and explained everything very well . I now know a lot about these units . He went in to my attic and told me surprisingly my duct work was in good shape they would do some small repairs that would be included he even took pictures to show me .He emailed me the quotes on 2 units with in an hr. and said they had what we needed in stock and would install the next day which is unheard of right now during the pandemic .So I waited for the other appt. he arrived walked me out back looked at my unit for 5 min didn't explain anything to me . The went in side to go up in the attic to look at the handler and he asked me if I had a ladder I said no he said oh I go get mine wow really . So after he went in the attic he came down no pictures and proceeded to tell me all my duct work needs to be completely replaced and to go down to a 2 ton not the 2 1/2 which we had ... so I wanted for his quote which he filled out in his truck out front of my house . I had decided oh. Trane because the one we had was a Trane that lasted over 30 yrs . Price difference was very small but remember the other company's quote was on a 2 ton not a 2 1/2 ton try to get me to replace my duct work when not needed was a deal breaker plus the other company . Carolina climate control was amazing when I call to tell them I was going with them I asked when was the soonest we could stall Grey said he had all ready set and appt first thing the next morning ! We got three estimates to replace a 25-year old HVAC unit, and two of them came in about the same. So, why did we go with Marshall? He took the time to really explain the choices in HVAC units, and to provide detailed estimates and answer questions. He also was the only one to make any sense as to why a couple of our duct lines don't work very well. The other folks just wrote a line or two, gave a price, and just mumbled about the duct issues. Plus, Marshall deals in Trane units, which are the best on the market. Now that it's in, we're really happy with our choice. He and his team were prompt and got it done in one day, despite having to deal with a really antiquated set-up from the old unit, and having to build a new platform for the unit (which was also excellently done). It is now Monday morning and still haven't heard from them. They came for a tune up, that was really nothing more than an inspection, and said that I needed "duct work and a new float switch" for $275. I asked exactly what he meant by"duct work" and he said the insulation of one duct was coming partially apart from its attachment near the air handler. I decided to wait and investigate myself. When I inspected the what he meant, I saw that the were 2 spots, 5-inches each, that needed to be taped...That's It?! He wanted $150 for that. He also wanted $125 to replace a float switch. I found that I could buy the new float switch for $19.xx, and insulated (metal) duct tape, to match what was already there, for $10. I ended up doing the work myself. It was SUPER easy! Installing the float switch (easy instructions found everywhere) took me less than 30 min, and taping the duct took about 10-15 min (I did it better than original). The hardest part about this was the heat, but that's where swallowing ice or cold water helped a lot. So for $30 and less than an hour of simple work, I did what he wanted to charge me $275 to do!! If he gave me an estimate of $100 or less. I probably would have let him, but his price was outrageous, and completely unreasonable. read more

Earlier this year, I decided to shop around for a maintenance plan for my HVAC unit. Truth be told, I'd NEVER had it maintained, it was years old, and I was nervous as to what would be found but knew I needed to do. I contacted 3 different companies with two responding. Price wise, Carolina Climate Control was cheaper at $150 for 2 visits in a year so when the time came, that's who I used to do the work. Marshall the owner and another technician came out. Prior to coming out I received an appt reminder text the night before from Tyler. Day off, they were in traffic and called to let me know they were running a bit late. I always appreciate good communication so good sign so far! Once there, they checked the unit and all seemed to be fine. Now let me preface this by saying I'm an idiot who talks too much and is too trusting so I'd shared with them that the unit had NEVER been maintained. It's a handicap, my oversharing! If they wanted to, they could have easily said something was wrong and needed attention to get more money out of me. Not only did that NOT happen, Marshall also added a drain line that the unit didn't have and didn't charge me. I was so impressed with the experience that I referred Carolina Climate Control to my mom. About 2 weeks after referring them, her unit stopped working. From what she's shared since, she too was very happy with their work AND there was something that needed to be done (can't recall what) that Marshall shared with my brother that he could do himself to save money. It's clear that Carolina Climate Control isn't out to do what it takes to profit off it's customers, it's more about providing good customer service. Unfortunately for me my AC unit stopped working last week and Carolina Climate Control was able to diagnose the problem, but had too much on their schedule to be able to do the work immediately. They're looking to hire more technicians but having to turn work away is a good problem to have! read more

Had a company through my Home Warranty come out 3 times to diagnose and fix a leak at the air handler located in the hallway of my condo. It is easy to praise a company when everything goes well. It is another thing entirely when issues arise. The completely new system installed by Carolina Climate Control went in without a hitch. The system was as promised, on budget and on time. After the system was installed problems were identified and we needed to call upon Marshall Gay and Tyler Floyd for help. Despite the fact that they had been paid in full and had nothing to do with the new issues, they came to our rescue and resolved all of the issues at their sole expense. These gentlemen and this company are really "stand up" folks and we feel that we made the right decision when we hired them in the first place. I had no AC unexpectedly on a very hot August day in SC. I'll be honest, I called multiple businesses prior. Only reason is that I called the business that installed my AC 2 years ago, and when I was told it would be 4 days from now when they can come out, mind you for a emergency, no air conditioner. No way. Then went with a few referrals from friends. No luck. No one was available for days. Top places that come up online. What? For a emergency? No air? I'm glad I called this wonderful business.
