I was incredibly excited to try this, as I had heard great things, and I was simply in the mood for a delicious chocolate lava cake. Unfortunately, I was left more disappointed than anything. First, the Chocolate Soufflé was only luke warm, when you really want it to be hot enough to feel like it just came out of the oven, but not too hot that you burn your mouth off. Second, I was underwhelmed at the first bite, when it tasted like this had been frozen and heated up. It was like going to the store and heating up a generic soufflé, at best. The ice cream, for me, was the best part, and it was actually generic vanilla ice cream. I went for the tutti frutti, the most popular apparently. A friend also recommended this place so ya no reason not to go. So I was served a banana chopped and a few strawberry with vanilla ice cream and a waffle dribbled in chocolate. All this first $15, which I was a bit so so, but hey. This was OK, the chocolate being the main attraction was too sweet and not really that smooth. No Swiss sophistication here when it comes to chocolate. But the waffle was light and fluffy and given the time of year, strawberries not being in season, I got the tasteless hydroponic kind. All in all an underwhelming experience. Ok, but would recommend lindt down on the Southbank, which is a bit more expensive but so much more satisfying. read more

I have two words for you my friend... "Chocolate Souffle". Max Brenner, a house of chocolate is one that will send your sweet tastebuds into overdrive. I indulge (once in a blue moon i swear!) in the "Chocolate Souffle" and my god... I question god... is he in the souffle? Is that what makes it taste so darn good? The souffle is brought out warm, you take your spoon and as soon as you make contact, it melts on the plate. Perfection. Now that the fantasy is over, i will go on. Max Brenner is located in the QV building / area and is usually quite busy. You will find a range of beverages and desserts available (but seriously try the souffle, you wont regret it). Personally my tastebuds agree with the desserts here but not the beverages. I find a good hot chocolate at San Churro to be more appetising but as you've probably guessed theres no beating the "Chocolate Souffle". read more

Everyone keeps telling me to go to Max Brenner in Australia but I found myself a little underwhelmed when I was finally in the store. Ordered the hot chocolate which came in a cute mug which I'm not sure where to drink from. You can add marshmallows or crunchy waffle (crunchy micro-chocolate balls) on it. I feel like the hot chocolate at San Churros and Hardware Societe are much better (thicker). Thought they make fresh chocolate souffle but turned out it's ready made one so asked the waiter for dessert recommendation instead and he said there's nothing special *lol* he finally recommended white chocolate cheesecake which came with fresh strawberries and thick chocolate dipping. It tastes better with the chocolate dipping. My friend told me to try the banana split waffle sundae but afraid that portion will be too big so got the mini Max sundae instead which turned out to be vanilla ice cream with a side of chocolate liquid & gummy bears. Arrived for hot chocolate with friends in June 2012. Staff unsmiling slow and unhelpful. Couldn't hear what I said over the noise of the coffee machine and loud banging of plates being washed. Couldn't see the price being entered and they ended up getting my order wrong. Hot chocolate not hot - took 10 minutes to arrive. Place crowded yet cold and drafty. Disappointing on every level. Terrible service by the Asian girl who served us on Sunday 24/10 at 2:30pm. She clearly did not want to be there and made it evident by her poor customer service. She was blunt and so rude when we had just got there. The worst part was her blatant ISLAMOPHOBIA towards my sister who is Muslim and wears a hijab. This disgusting server tried to single out my sister in front of other customers in regards to her vaccination certificate that she had already shown her. She tried to say my sister did not show nor have it which was a complete LIE because my sister is doubled vaxxed and had already shown her certificate! She did not ask the rest of us who were not in a hijab. DISGUSTING! When my sister showed the certificate again, she rolled her eyes and went silent. She took our orders with the biggest attitude as if we did something wrong. She clearly did not care about my sister's vaccination status, she was being a discriminatory bigot. For her to so confidently display this kind of behaviour to paying customers tells me this place overall does not respect people from all religions. That pathetic excuse for a human being went out of her way to try and embarrass someone for their beliefs. And clearly does not have an issue with lying. Definitely will never be back. read more

A chocolate addicts place to indulge! Their menu caters for lovers of decadence with just about everything dipped in chocolate form Belgium waffles, to chocolate pizza with marshmallows. My favorite is the chocolate lick, for $2 you can get your own little pot of pure chocolate heaven eat in or take away. With a 'lick stick' and white chocolate milk duds. This place is so crowded in the evenings; you'll be lucky to pull up a chair. Its open air outdoor dining allows for a relaxed casual environment backing onto QV Square that is always bustling. read more

I've never left Max Brenner's without feeling extremely unwell. And, admittedly, I have only myself to blame for this. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of it I do, I just regret my purchase every time. Usually when the nausea starts to set in. Everything is just so insanely chocolatey and sickly sweet. If that's your thing then you will in absolute sugar induced heaven. Otherwise, somewhat like myself, you may find it all just a little too much. From waffles drenched in chocolate to choc-fudge brownie sundaes this is place I'd only recommend for those with a serious sweet tooth. read more

i was SO confused! my first experience @ Max Brenner was in their flagship NYC store (ONLY one in the US @ the time) which had all bells and whistles...when i was visiting my cousins in australia i was surprised to learn that MB was EVERYWHERE ambiance// *** forget charlie and the chocolate factory. in aus, MB is like baskin robbins or wetzels pretzels. you can find it in every shopping mall or store front....no fancy she-bang...if nyc was a 10, this is like a 5.7 still cute and fun, but on a normal scale service// *** as with the baskin robbins/wetzels comparison, you basically order at the counter and sit off to the side when you eat...no waitstaff to serve your every whim desserts// *** they're still yummy and fun, but somehow the plating isn't as impressive a slight adjustment of expectations, but MB was still as good as i *remembered* and a chill place to hang out and catch up with friends & family read more

This place used to be great when it first opened. The hot chocolate is so watered down now that I'm better off having a mug of Milo at home. The last time I was here we ordered the banana praline crepes and you can see visible hard water spots on the plates and utensils. It's disappointing how far the quality has deteriorated. read more

Uggh, yet another store that requires a minimum for credit card purchases. So annoying how Australian shops do this. It's is if they are saying "we are doing so well, we do not need your money". I went into Max Brenners in QV just now for a much needed caffeine hit, but was told I needed to buy $15 worth of coffee. I tried to haggle with the staff saying I didn't need $15 worth and I'd be willing to pay an extra $2 for my latte, then $5, but they politely refused. In the end went looking for an ATM, but gave up after 10 minutes and got a coffee from McDonalds, lol. To their credit they were apologetic. But still, this "$10 minimum" or "$15 minimum" is really, really, really, really annoying. Not to mention archaic, forcing people to carry around physical cash. It's things like this that make Americans and the rest of the Western Hemisphere view Australia as a bit of a backwater. But overall, $10, $15, $25 minimums are putting the shop first and the customer second....and for some unknown reason Australians seem content with this arrangement. Maybe if we all band together and boycott places that require minimums, we can force Australia out of the old school, dark ages of physical cash and into the 21st century. read more

I thought this location was pretty decent and recommend the Peanut Butter Iced Chockie with chocolate ice cream. Desserts down here will be less rich than compared to average USA ones in my experience, so I wonder if that puts some off? The place is quite small and can get crowded, but hey, this is trendy QV! read more

So, I am from the states and we don't really have anything like this where I live. The European hot chocolate is to die for. It is melted chocolate mixed with a little cream and nothing like the water and powder mixes that I am used to. The dipping chocolates that come with other treats are also really good. read more

Utter rubbish. Slow service, inattentive barista and mediocre drinks. The Chai Latte I just had have completely ruined my day.
