Evan K.

My housemate raved about a chocolate shop that was almost completely gluten free (She is one of those poor unfortunate souls who cannot eat gluten). This shop is a feast in more than one way, it pleases all the senses. From the busy swans ton street shopfront you can see an assortment of chocolates in gift packages or in traditional boxed chocolates. This is the only place i buy chocolate for gifts, they suit any occasions and the staff are genuinely interested in what the gifted chocolates are for and will offer a range of sweets to suit the occasion. The chocolates are not the cheapest you will come across (But come on we are past the age of buying your mates some chocolates from woolies) but the presentation and flavour of the sweets will make it worth you're while! Now the hardest part is giving your purchase away!!

Wow, this is how you know I'm behind in my reviews. I'm already three weeks past for this review :P…read moreSo anyways, I had just finished the wonderful time eating a burger when I saw a chocolate store to my left upon exiting. Chocolate? I love chocolate! So I went in and got some more even though I had got some earlier that same day HAHA. They have a WIDE range of chocolate that they put in a really small store. There are a lot of chocolate (white, dark, or milk - maybe even more) that's mixed with fruit (raisins, orange, strawberries). They have a wide assortment and my eyes only had about 3 minutes to look through everything, so I just got stuff that my eyes saw interesting. Chocolate covered strawberries, I believe they were milk chocolate. You get freeze dried strawberries with chocolate surrounding it. It's basically a malt ball with a hint of strawberry inside. This was one pretty good, better than what I was expecting. The strawberry flavor isn't a lot, but you can get it come out if you bite the chocolate in half. :P They had dark chocolate peppermint. PEPPERMINT. They have it all over as pieces and they're refreshing. It comes out of left field and you totally will enjoy it if you're a fan of peppermint :D The chocolate melted so this went in the refrigerator when I got back to LA (LA WHYYY) so I didn't get to eat this first D: Shoulda. Get it if you're a fan of peppermint! There was also 99% chocolate here. I'm assuming the person I got it for enjoyed it. ;) Totally would have gotten more if I had more time, or if I had more room in my luggage HAHA. On DeGraves, in case! The price for the three was 35AUD so the price is kinda high. I think.

Honest chocolate, experimentally executed, well worth visit.read more

I purchased a small box for Gayle (for the hotel room) and then Gayle went for larger collection at the Sydney Airport. That's what you do when you have local currency to "burn" before you head home and out of the country. Koko Black is what you'd expect - fine chocolate - tempting selections - a little pricey, great packaging, great service in the store, extremely good, and oh so worth it.

Koko Black is a lovely place to get some of these souvenir chocolates because they have a large selection of items, including items that are "Australian" in flavor, like bars with macadamia nut and wattleseed. These items are in cool packaging so it's definitely already like a gift that's been wrapped. This store has one side as the retail space and the other as a café with coffee, hot chocolate and desserts. We didn't get any of the café items but we did snoop and they looked quite lovely and smelled really good. We did buy a lot of yummy chocolates. This by far was the most I've spent in one store my whole time in Australia but it was worth it.

Lindt Chocolate Cafe - So many flavors to try!

Those noobs went over to Trampoline while I walked into Lindt Chocolat Cafe and they have absolutely no clue what glorious desserts they were missing out on. And my friend had the nerve to take a bite of his gelato and tell me that I made the wrong decision. Ohohoho~ Cookies and Cream Ice Cream with Hot Fudge drizzled on top and 3 delicious macarons. I most definitely did not make a wrong decision. The Ice Cream had the perfect flavour and consistency not to mention brilliantly complimented the fudge. The macarons were absolutely delicious, but were a bit too pricey for what they were worth I think but that's okay. Overall, Lindt Chocolat Cafe is cheap, but a bit more expensive than other dessert spots you'll find in Melbourne. However, they don't skimp on the quality so definitely treat yourself to Lindt every once in a while.

The entrance is inviting and sparkling, yet there is a bit of disappointment as you enter the establishment. The chocolate is tempting, however your much better off financially buying Lindt chocolate in any supermarket around Melbourne looking at the price tags. It is small and crowded (the latter would be expected for being the first day of opening) although the small layout is disappointing; and it was nice to have been given a two for one drinks voucher and one of their Lindor balls on the house. The staff are friendly, yet the prices can be a little over the top. Their iced and hot chocolates (milk varieties) are to die for, enjoy and experience at least once. Decided to give their ice cream a go. One scoop is $7 here, so again a bit pricey - you would be better off heading to nearby Calatrava or Baci. Tried their Black Forest ice cream; it was filling and did leave a bitter Lindt dark chocolate aftertaste in my mouth. Sorry guys, however I am not coming back here in a hurry.

This is the newly-opened sister cafe to the Seedling Cafe on Flinders Lane. Everything here is 100%…read moregluten-free and "paleo inspired" which generally means no grains, no legumes, no dairy, and a focus on fresh, unprocessed vegetables and proteins. As a vegan, usually when I go to a paleo place, I shudder at the amount of meat and eggs on offer -- but Seedling Cafe's not like that. Their menu dovetails nicely with a plant-based diet, offering plenty of vegan options. For breakfast, vegans can choose from smashed avo, blueberry porridge, and four different kinds of smoothie bowls made from coconut milk. They also have a variety of fancy-pants lattes (turmeric, matcha, etc.) and coffee with almond, coconut, or soy milk. For lunch, there's not much on the menu for vegans per se, but check the display case where they have their fresh salads and there are usually a few vegan salads, which you can mix and match to make a nice healthy lunch (that's what I did -- I had a pea thing, a cauliflower thing, and a vegan coleslaw thing. Yes. Thing.) And of course they have some healthy treats by way of raw vegan bars and energy balls and stuff like that. These vary so just check the display case. I had the peanut bar and while it wasn't decadent like peanut butter, I wasn't really wanting or expecting it to be -- it tasted mostly like ground up peanuts and a bit of sweetness and a bit of chocolate. In other words, it tasted healthy, which is what you're after anyway if you're going to this place. Their menu and the food in their display case is clearly marked with vegan, paleo, dairy-free, and nut-free options. V* means vegan, and staff knows what exactly "vegan" entails. (They even know that honey is not vegan, which is impressive because a lot of non-veg restaurants/cafes don't know that one.) In terms of atmosphere, this Seedling Cafe is lighter and brighter and feels roomier than their Flinders Lane location. It's in the Equitable Place laneway, on the corner with Little Collins Street. Not much seating so this place is mostly take-away, but there are a few small tables and chairs.
