I just had my GS serviced by Max's utilizing their pick-up/drop-off service and was very happy with the end to end experience. Made a request on the web site, got reached out to by a Service Advisor, discussed the standard service plus some extra things I needed addressed, got a quick quote and pick-up date. Pick-up went smooth, had it secure in the truck in 5 minutes. Clear communication throughout process re: parts and options. At drop-off I noticed a small error on the invoice that I mentioned to the driver who called Service and by the time I was back at my desk I got a call from Service Manager apologizing and letting me know the credit was already processed. Beware, Ben in sales lies to sell bikes. My son and I wanted to purchase two bikes, an S1000RR and an M1000RR. Ben in sales texted me that the S1000RR left Germany a week prior and would be delivered and ready to pick up in two weeks. Based on this a deposit was made and purchase contract signed. Two weeks passed without any contact. Reached out and eventually got a text that it just left Germany and would be another 3-4 weeks minimum. Direct lies in writing. We cancelled the purchase on that bike and had a bike from Gold Coast BMW within a day. The M1000RR was in stock and Ben indicated that 3 months deferred payment financing, with no interest on the first 3 months, was available. I specifically asked if there were any fees, penalties, or interest if paid in full before end of 3 months. I indicated that I was only choosing this option to take advantage of the temporary free money and that otherwise I would just make the entire purchase. My questions were acknowledged and confirmed by Ben, no fees or penalties. I just went and paid off the amount before the 3 month date and there are $556.65 in finance charges for the three months. I have placed several calls to Ben to discuss and he has not returned my calls. For what it is worth the bikes are incredible! It is unfortunate that these amazing machines are peddled by a such a disingenuous and untrustworthy representative of the brand. Beware! read more

There's really not a second choice if you want a BMW motorcycle in the northeast . As you know if you've read my other reviews that I enjoy motorcycling. I motorcycle a lot. To the deepest darkest forests of New York State, the dirtiest dustiest trails in the Adirondacks, anywhere my 1250 GS adventure will go including Trails we probably shouldn't be on. I bought the bike at Maxis. Chreg was really helpful And let me do a test ride on the 1250 GS adventure. Was not planning on buying that day but the ride was so incredibly awesome I came back and pretty much just slap the cash on his desk and begged him to give me the bike. BMW of Troy, NY such a disappointment After owning five BMWs, three of which we bought from BMW of Troy (2019 R1250 HP, 2021 310R NS RHW 2023 s1000XR). I am disappointed and heartbroken that I have decided to let them all go, not because of the motorcycles but because of the service and disrespect we received from the dealership. I feel they charge way too much for service. They claim they check the bike from A-Z and ensure it is safe to ride every 6,000 miles. I have always been skeptical of this claim, but now they have shown their true colors and revealed who they really are. For every bike I bought from them, I paid for an extended bike warranty and tire and wheel protection. Usually, a dealership keeps records of this, not BMW. I went to have my tires changed because they got ripped up on the road. They should have been covered, and I discovered they would have been covered if we had told them we had the coverage. They sold us the coverage and should have known when they looked us up in their system or at least asked; they did not. They wouldn't even give us a break on any new stuff or credit for what they did charge for the tires and the labor. More recently, the original charging port of the new 2023 S1000XR wasn't working. We were told this would keep happening because the bike had too much torque and would keep shaking it loose. They offered up another option. They sold us a $100 charging wire and installed it on the bike, which worked okay. Well, it was time for the service. I was at 6, 000 miles. After I dropped it off for the regular service, I told them I also needed a back tire. They called me up afterward and said I needed the back brake replaced. Ok, no problem. I asked them not to charge me any additional labor. Since they are already charging me to change the tire, they must remove the caliber anyway. How hard is it to pop 5 two brake pads and put them back in? How long do you think it would take an amateur to do this? They said they had to charge me for the extra labor. They had no choice in the matter. MAX BMW said, " If I am unwilling to pay the labor charge, they will take the new brakes off and put the old ones back on." This is after we spent over $70,000 with them for the three bikes and all the service charges over the last 5 years. Is this how you treat long-time customers by taking advantage of them, and over what? $40.00 labor charge, when we are paying them $800 for the service, the new tire, and the labor for that. Upon receiving the bike and taking it for a ride, I encountered a loose chain that was skipping the teeth on the sprocket, rendering the Dynamic Pro mode unusable. To add to the frustration, the charger was also malfunctioning, further disrupting my ride. So I made an appointment to bring it back to the dealer and it quickly went from we can adjust it to you need a new $500 chain, $800 later. Again I picked up the bike and took it for a ride. The shifter stopped working, and the screw that held it in place came out. What am I to believe? Obviously, they do not check the bike from A-Z when they do the service like they say or they would have noticed the loose chain and the loose screw. Between Ben at MAX BMW and the service department, I don't feel safe on my bike: I can't even imagine what will fall off next. Ben, I hope this gets back to you. My wife and I are very disappointed you have crushed and destroyed our dreams. We had both planned on upgrading our current BMW bikes, but you have lost not only our respect and trust but also our business. I hope people read this and think twice about coming to your establishment or any dealership you have an affiliation with. read more

I'm recommending MAXBMW.com. Here's why. I recently ordered some BMW bits from MAX BMW, a company with locations in CT, NY, and NH, but which also has an online presence at MAXBMW.com. I sent the order in, and waited a week for a shipping advice, but didn't get one. I wrote an email to check on it. Nothing. I called. Voicemail, and nothing. This emailing and calling continued for some days, until I gave up and asked them to cancel the order. It really wasn't that big a deal. The bits were just spares, because, you know, motorcycles. Shortly after writing to them, I got an email from a most apologetic young woman named Brianna who explained that, yes, they'd dropped the ball on the order and on communication. She then went on to explain that they'd been running pillar to post--not her words--trying to stay up with their business. They'd had three people out with COVID and one staff member was killed in a motorcycling accident. She then wrote to explain what they would do to make up for their lack of communication. What she proposed was so much more than fair that I couldn't accept it, and I wrote back as much, but she insisted. Then she called to facilitate things. We agreed on what they'd do, which again was much more than fair. She hand-packed my order and rushed it to me. In the box were the BMW bits and a small package of M&Ms. I'm a retired marketing professor. I have lots of horror stories about service providers such as airlines, stores, ISPs, cable providers (which as I write this has started me swearing under my breath), dealerships of various kinds, and others who, having made some sort of error or failed to deliver on promised services, make no effort to make amends, but have a "Too bad; tough nuggies" attitude. Some go so far as to send an email or a form letter that says "We at XYZco strive for excellence in customer service. We are sorry you experienced (whatever rotten deal you experienced), and hope to see you again soon." Such a letter, roughly translated, means "Too bad; tough nuggies." I have fewer stories that have a pleasant outcome. Happily, my experience with MAX BMW was an outstanding example of a company going above and beyond to make it right for a customer, even one with a small order. Based on my experience, I recommend these guys. I'm definitely going to buy parts from them again, because, well, motorcycles. read more

Bought a 2004 BMW R1150RT and from day one I was treated like a piece of dirt... They said they would go over the motorcycle and make sure everything is done and it's ready to ride! But, first when they delivered it, they damaged the fairing. Then, I had an oil leak. Then, and this is dealing with my very safety - the hand grips slipped and i was almost killed... I am currently looking for an accident lawyer to sue Max BMW. Bottom line is stay away and never ever give them your hard earned money!!! read more

Traveling through on my way back to Alberta Canada, and my back tire blows out. In two places... was a brand new tire, I know right!! Ok, I digress. So I was very fortunate to have had the AMA truck bring my bike by this place. It was about 1:15pm on a Saturday and they were busy. These awesome people fed me coffee and got a new tire on my bike before closing. This kept me from being stranded for a couple days! I was able to get on my way and reach me planned destination for the day! Can't thank them enough. I want to say after having dealt with Max BMW in Troy, N.Y. off and on for over 25 years I don't think I will be bringing anymore of my business their way. This is the first time I have ever posted a review on any business. Craig in the sales department is a great fellow. I have purchased 4 BMW's through this man. I do say that a company should be pricing their bikes on line for prior comparison. That said, it feels like they just pull the prices out of their magic hat. Believe me, that hat is not in your favor! But hey, it's the "way of the world", right! Service desk is good unless you have a problem with it. Pick up and delivery service is great and reasonable. Although I have to say that the last two times the bike was picked up, for warranty work, somewhere between pick-up, work done, and delivery back to my home, it came with new scratches on it. First time a scratch in the headlight cover and this last time a scratch in the cowling around the fuel tank. The bike went down clean came back dirty with the added gum from a NY inspection sticker they had tried to charge me for because, I don't know. They put it right next to my current Vt. inspection sticker! I said I didn't ask for an inspection. They said, well it didn't have a plate on it??? That's because I put the plate on my other new bike for I had know idea when I might get my bike back. It came back two weeks after my scheduled appointment. Ya know the season in Vt. is short. Part of my love for motorcycling is to be able to do some of my own maintenance work. And this has nothing to do with Max's. Again the "Way of the World". BMW goes out of it's way to make it difficult to do anything like change your final drive fluid. There is no fill plug on my 2011RT final drive. So one has to pull the muffler, tire, and speed sensor and then measure the fluid and fill through the speed sensor hole. Time you have to pay through the nose for if you take it to the BMW shop, because it takes them just a long, almost, to do the same job. Last time I had them do a full service with tires, $1800.00. That included motor oil at $17.00 a quart! Slightly elevated prices, okay, theft is another story. read more

by chance, i ran into a guy i never saw before in my 60 yrs on earth as i was gasing up my bmw bike, he says nice bike and we start talking, turns out he bought my old from max, showed me photos, definetly my ride i had since new in 98, thing is i traded it to max cuz it started oil leak at driveshaft into tranny, they sold this r1200c to this guy without fixing leak and gave him no info about problem, then he told me it was like pulling teeth to get another deal. read more

I was in the market for another bike with cash in hand. I responded to several listings on cycle trader. A salesman, Ben, emailed me back saying the listings were no longer available. Strike one for dealership for not keeping up with online listings. I replied to his email stating that I was looking for a 2022 S1000rr with M package and premium package, so this was going to be a good sale for the salesman. No response to my email. Strike two for dealership. The next day I called and left a message for Ben with the receptionist saying I was a cash buyer and wanted to purchase a bike within the next few days. I got no call back. More than a week later still no call back or email response. I'm buying a bike elsewhere and will tell everyone I speak with to NOT use this dealership. When I brought my 1978 R100 to this shop for a fluid change I specifically asked the guy at the counter to call me if the bike needed any other work. I wanted the option to decide to do any additional work before they proceeded. I few weeks later I did get a call notifying me the bike was ready and the bill was $725. I requested an email of the bill where I found that the shop had installed a new battery, horn and synced the carbs. When I confronted the same counter person about the bill he was very contrite, a bit baffled and stared at his computer screen mumbling. He remembered my asking to be called first but didn't remember if he had actually made the call. At first he offered to remove the battery, then he offered the battery at cost and halved the labor on its installation. This knocked off a whopping $50. However apologetic the counter person may have been, I still brought my weekend-use bike into this shop for a fluid change and walked out with a $675 bill. I'd beware of this place. If they do this kind of thing on a small scale there's no telling the extent to which they pad jobs on a larger scale. read more

These guys try, being the only BMW motorcycle repair shop in the entire tri-state area. They sometimes over book appointments, and under- deliver on service, but nobody can be expected to be perfect. They will go to bat for you with BMW, if an item should be covered under warranty. However, Every maintenance I have had done here at MAX BMW has caused some kind of catastrophic failure on my motorcycle. They tightened my chain and the next thing I know the chain is flying off the sprocket. An investigation proved that the sprocket and chain were good, but they still did not take responsibility for the irrevocable damages. I had a break light switch swapped out recently and five miles down the road the caliper locked up and melted my brake disk, hoses, and pads. They of course, took no responsibility even though the work order clearly states the tech took the rear brake lever off to check the back break switch - and even when a 3rd party mechanic stated that the failure was due to a maladjusted rear break lever, causing the master cylinder to remain half closed, they accepted no responsibility. Before the Glens Falls Americade last year, I ordered a replacement fairing to fix a scratch and get the bike looking perfect, but they ordered the part for the wrong side, even though I had them confirm the side twice. I brought my bike in for the regular maintenance checks, the incremental mileage maintenances, 4,000, 8,000 - 16,000, and on the 24,000 they tell me that this has no bearing on whether or not I have a certified pre-owned vehicle, and I had to even insist that they stamp my maintenance book. I have never been so disappointed in a product, or in an establishment in my life. read more

Even if you're just toying with the idea of getting a new bike, I highly recommend paying a visit to Carolyn in the sales department. She's one of the most well-rounded salespeople I've ever spoken to. Not only is she very knowledgable about motorcycles, but a real, genuine, and caring person who is far more about offering encouragement to follow your interests, than pressuring you to make a purchase. I live in Manhattan, but I bought my new BMW R nine T from the guys at MAX BMW in Troy, NY. Here's why I would never go anywhere else. These guys understand customer service. From the moment I first called up sales, Craig felt like an old friend in the business. Other BMW dealers had a waiting list until July for the R nine T. Craig said he could get me one in May. Then later surprised me by telling me he got one in April. What a fantastic shortcut. So I took the train from the City up to Troy. I called to let Craig know I was on my way, and he asked me what I was going to pay in insurance. Not only did he let me know I was paying too much, but he gave me the name of a friend in the motorcycle insurance business. This was after hours on a Friday, and the insurance guys stayed open late to get me a policy so I could ride the next morning. I am sure they get a lot of references from Max BMW, but I saved about $80 a month by going with Craig's recommendation. Thanks! When you get there, they take care of everything. One stop shop. They have a license plate waiting for you. They have the DMV forms waiting for you. All you need to do is the paperwork. It saves you a trip to the DMV and the registration and sales tax are all taken care of. Oh, and the insurance guys know Max BMW and fax over your card in no time. As for the base price of the bike, no extra charges and no BS. The process is completely transparent and you are paying the MSRP and the delivery fee. These guys are honest dealers. When you walk and get your bike, it is pristine. They even make sure there are no shoe prints on the rider's pegs. Beautiful. If you take a basic rider course and buy a new bike, BMW (at the time I purchased at least) gave me a $500 apparel credit. This costs less than the rider course in New York City! Greg, who is in charge of parts, gave me good advice on buying a jacket that would protect me and give me visibility. He even agreed to ship to NYC free of charge. Finally, this is just a fun place to hang out. Get a cup of coffee and walk around. Everyone has a good story to tell. Everyone is friendly and wants this place to be a fantastic shop to buy and service a bike. This is a temple of motorcycles. I will be back. read more

I bought a used R1200GS from Craig, and after more than 11,000 miles I still feel like i got a fair deal. I rode the bike in for service (scheduled the service appointment for early on a Saturday, but it was off-season) and they did a ton of work while I waited (new tire, new brake pads, brake fluid and oil changes, balance the throttle bodies and adjust the valves). It all worked out fine for me, and it was the most work I've ever had done on a motorcycle "while I waited" at the shop. SCAM!!!!!! First of all, it seems to me that some of the five star reviews were written by max employees and are FAKE. I drove all the way from NYC for a non existing deal. I was talking to one of the sales persons regarding trading in my R1200RT. sales person asked for some pictures and after back and forth we agreed on a deal. he had me drive on cold day with a bank check for the agreed amount. waited at the dealer for 3 HOURS. yes they had me wait for 3 HOURS when trying to switch the deal on me. it is part of the strategy (that after 3 hours I will agree to what ever change they made to the deal) this was a complete Bait and switch!!!! since they are the only dealer around I am selling my BMW and will never ever deal with BMW motorcycles again. The experience was like buying a used car in the 70s. Craig was the sleazy salesman I dealt with, but they all cover for one another. When i left upset one of the younger sales person told me "at list it is a nice day for a ride". NEVER EVER AGAIN. read more

I stopped in to pick up some oil filters and crush rings and decided to look around at the new water cooled GS and Craig the sale's associate came over to talk about it. I told him I had a RT and was looking into getting a GS in the spring. He offered me a test ride on it but having no riding gear with me at the time ( I was passing through on my way home to Syracuse ) I declined but Craig offered to lend me some of his older gear ( we were about the same size ) and a Helmet , again I told him I wasn't in the market for a bike until next spring, he said that was fine but why not take a ride anyway, so I said what the hell and went for it. After I had return from the test ride there was no sales pressure at all ( big surprise ) , just his card , how did I like the ride, and when I'm ready to purchase to at least give him a shot. That's the kind of salesman I want to deal with and come next spring you can bet that's where I will go first.... read more
