The desk guy told me it would be about 30 minutes to check a leak in my tire. 40 minutes later they ask where is the wheel lock for my wheel? Almost an hour after that I am still waiting. 90 minutes and counting. I don't care if it takes all day but that should be communicated ahead so I can plan accordingly. This is not an unforseen or surprising issue with my tire, it's just an unexplained delay. Now I have wasted a lot of time waiting when I could have done other errands or had lunch or literally anything besides wasting my time in this chair. Two stars is assuming they fix my tire and everything on that end concludes normally. And normally I wouldn't write a review while I'm still here, but I've literally got nothing else to do. I'm on the fence with these guys. Over the years I've had full sets of tires replaced on all my cars here. But lately I've noticed, what appears to be, a shortage of help. It took a while for someone to recognize me at the front desk. Other than that, I'm pretty well satisfied with the tire replacements. That said, I found that my tires were cheaper at Pep Boys WITH lifetime rotations, alignment and road hazard insurance. But, the reason I didn't go to Pep Boys is because the last set of tires they put on were defective, and they were of little help in admitting and/or replacing it. read more

The guys in the Shrewsbury location are fair and honest. I came in with a leaking aluminum wheel that they diagnosed quickly ! I was told no charge? No charge WOW . They took the time to take the tire off, cleaned the wheel very well. Re-installed the tire and balanced the wheel!! I tipped the shop worker and was on my way. read more

We made an appointment to install two new tires at this location. The appointment was at 3:00 and the representative told my wife, "much like a doctor's office, we are running behind". I work in healthcare and we don't run behind, so not a good analogy. I had to go pick my wife up while people's cars without appointments were completed. We were the last car to be picked back up at 6:00 pm closing time. I would have just chalked this up to poor service and never went back until I looked at my front rims and noticed they were both cosmetically damaged. Not curb rash, damage was toward the center of the rim they are both gouged. Working in a tired shop in my younger days I know how this damage was caused. It was damaged by rushing and not caring about people's property. Customers, make sure you inspect their work before you leave. Brought my vehicle in for minor maintenance work and was told I needed front and rear brakes, even though I had just had the rear brakes done by Mavis in January. When I asked them to honor their lifetime warranty, they told me my rear brakes were "perfect" and didn't need replacing, but the front brakes were very low. Under no circumstances should anyone bring a car to this Mavis. Service is awful. I called and ordered my tires and I was told they will be in next day, so when I didn't hear back the next day I called and apparently the tires were never ordered. I waited 2 more days and was told they finally arrived. I happily dropped the car off the next day, the tires were installed and I went on my way only to find out they were never balanced correctly so at 60 MPH the car shook violently. I call back, tell them what's happening and they say bring it in the next day which sounds great until I drop the car for a few hours only to return and find 2 wheel locks now missing. I go back in thinking maybe they are on the shop counter somewhere, tech tells me they were never on when I brought the car in, I know they were because I just checked when I had the tires changed, by the same people. I am told someone will bring some regular ones down "shortly" waited 20 minutes and went to Firestone in Red Bank.. they took care of everything in just a few minutes. read more

I had a 10am appointment to have my tires rotated and one fixed. Showed up at 9:55am and was told it would be at least a hour wait at 10:20am . If I don't buy my tires here I would never come back. The manager was nice and told me at 10:20 they where finishing up on one car and I had one more in front of me and if I want to go and do things I could come back and they would fit me in. If I just wanted to be fixed in I wouldn't have made an appointment. They need to not take appointments and work on first come first serve basis. If I could give LESS than 1 star I would! My local Mavis damaged my sons car and it's months of trying to get compensated for the damage with voice mails and emails that go unanswered! The lack of customer service is despicable and especially since they are responsible for damaging a customers vehicle while trying to install tires that I actually had to pay for the service and now I am waiting months for an answer. Worst car repair experience ever here! I STRONGLY urge you not to take your car here unless you're JUST looking for tires or an oil change... and even then it's probably going to take them a full day. I had the unfortunate experience of trusting this shop to work on my car over the summer. They agreed to take on a job they were not equipped for. My car was in their shop almost a whole month and the dashboard taken apart several times. By the time I got it back they had rigged the car rather than fixing the issue, the dashboard did not fit together properly, and they dirtied the interior of my car so much I was unable to get the grease and oil out of it. I ended up taking back the car before it was finished properly because I was tired of constantly being told their was something else wrong, being lied to about when it was going to be ready or when I'd receive an update call, and being given attitude when I was completely understanding even while being without a car for a month. I never yelled or or got angry with them because I knew it would do no good, but I was still treated like crap and talked to like an idiot here. I reached out to the corporate office and, after some back and forth, we were able to come to some sort of partial refund agreement. I was not fully satisfied but my only other choice at this point was legal action and I didn't have the time, money, or energy to fight this any longer. I was told by a regional manager my issue was not their bread and butter and I finally snapped and asked why they even agreed to take on the job! You trust that when you give your car to a professional company they will not start a job they cannot finish. NOT THE CASE HERE!!! In the end, I was too afraid to continue driving my car; it did not drive the same and the dashboard shook violently while driving. I was afraid of something else going wrong and needing to dump more money into the vehicle. For my safety, and sanity, I decided to trade in my car. I wasn't quite financially ready to do this but felt I had no other choice. I will NEVER take a car to this or any other Mavis location, and I strongly urge you do not either. read more

On the 5th of Aug, 2018 I stopped by at Mavis Tire Shrewsbury, NJ after the car had stalled on the FDR drive in New York to have Mavis Tire of Shrewsbury check into the issue. They said, (Dominic and Ken) I needed a new "cam" and it would cost $438.00 and added it would take 2 hours and 20 minutes to do the job. I told them I would be back on the following day, I had to drop someone off in Newark. On Monday the 6th I drove to Newark NJ and brought the car back into Mavis Tire Shrewsbury, NJ to have the cam put in. At that time Dominic and Ken said that while they were in that area of the car I should also get a new water pump and a new timing belt. They said it would cost 6 hundred and change, after some negotiation they agreed to do the work for $525.00. I had asked them if I would be better off just trading the car in. They said there was no reason to trade the car in, Honda Civic is a good motor, they added it would be good for another 200,000 miles. I gave them the car and keys then waited. They were aware I drove for a living and the car is essential to that end. I sat there that day and the 2 hour and 20 minute job went all day and I was told the timing belt was put in backwards... (Putting a timing belt in backwards is impossible.) The mechanic that was working on the car had his father kindly take me home and mentioned that tomorrow the car would be done. I arrived at Mavis on the 7th of Aug. about 10AM. The car was still up and I ended up getting a new story about problem with a spring missing from the parts they order and a new one was coming in! The part arrived and still there were problems... I left there late in the day. Oil was everywhere under the car. The 8th I called and was told that parts were ordered and coming in and to call back around 11AM. I would follow up each day sometimes twice when I was asked to. Every time I called I got a new story and new parts were coming... Finally, Pauli the manager, told me that the mechanic blew the engine by applying too much pressure to the oil and the head gasket was blown and oil went into the 3 cylinder. Pauli told me at one point the new head arrived then later it was the wrong one and another was coming in the next day. When it came in it was the wrong size. Later, they did manage to get the car running but it was missing. Now it has been near 3 weeks I have not been able to work because my car is not fixed and I am still getting stories when I call or stop by. On Aug. 24th I called, Mavis Tire Shrewsbury, NJ, spoke with Ken first. I expressed that I no longer want to speak with him, he never lives up to his word and from what I can tell he is used to put customers off. I told Ken that I want to speak direct with Pauli. Pauli of Mavis Tire Shrewsbury, NJ gave me a new story about a lot of parts for the head that is on order and still nothing has been done! He said to call back at 5 PM Saturday, I did and was told the parts came in and the head was being sent out to someone else to repair. Pauli added that the head would be back Monday at 10 AM and the car will be reassembled and I would have my car "as is" a clear signal that it will not be made right. I question that the car will actually be brought back to ever ride the way it did before bringing it to Mavis Tire Shrewsbury NJ. After this amount of time it seems very clear that Mavis Tire Shrewsbury, NJ destroyed my car and it is clearly beyond their ability to repair! Well the car was not done. I spoke with Dominic the only one there that is straightforward and takes ownership for mistakes. He said the head would be arriving late in the day. I stopped by the store about 5 pm Pauli said the head was in and I would have the car back Tuesday by noon. Pauli, told me the 3 different stories as I stood in front of him. This prompted me to file a complaint with Better Business. I have no trust in anything Pauli says. One evening Pauli called me and said the car was purring like a kitten, I was surprised. He said to come in tomorrow to take it and we would speak later in the week. I went in and Dominic was there saying "Hey Bob, let's take the car for a test drive." We both got into the car and I went to start it... It took three tries before the car would turn over! I stepped on the gas and the car hardly moved. Stepped on the gas a bit more and the car moved forward slowly. Dominic, was completely embarrassed and said "Stop, Please just stop the car. I would never let a car out in this condition!" They offered $500 for the car that they destroyed! I did not accept and was threatened that if I did not remove the car they would tow it to north Jersey... In the auto repair industry it is custom that if you break it, you replace it! They DID NOT! Trust I would never trust them to look at a bike no-less a car. read more

I have used Mavis in Deer Park, Long Island and 2 other locations in NJ. I walked into this location and asked how long I would have to wait for an oil change. They told me 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, my car was on the lift but nothing was being done to it. I asked Kareem what was going on with my car, and he told me they were waiting for an oil filter. I have a Honda Fit, it seems like poor planning for an oil change place to run out of oil filters for a common car. I also think they should have told me there was a delay since I asked how long it would take. Anyway, the oil filter was delivered and they worked on the car, but then the mechanic couldn't figure out how to re-set the oil indicator. He was joined by two other mechanics. The three of them couldn't figure it out either. Because I was in a rush, I told them not to bother. Again, haven't they seen a Honda before? When I checked out, the bill was initially $90 (!). I wanted to get out of there so badly that I was willing to pay the outrageous price. Then the price was $80. Then finally $70. They were very nice, but really! p.s. They rotated my tires for "free," but now my "check tire pressure" light is on (it wasn't before my visit). read more

This "04 Audi A4 just needed an alignment and the steering wheel set straight; the shop staff just lacked the skill to achieve that....after THREE tries. Mind you... New rack and pinion and no rusted tie rods; even ledt the jam-nuts snug. I had to handle it the old fashioned way! I spent the greater part of two days shoveling my car out after a storm only to see that I had a nail in one of my tires. Now, I've lost three separate jobs since Covid hit so I knew the financial burden was going to hurt but you need tires so what could I do? I come to Mavis in Shrewsbury and, to make matters worse, I'm told that instead of replacing two, I'm going to need to replace all four pretty much immediately. There's no way I could afford all that right now and I tell Sean (Shawn?), the gentleman behind the counter, as much. He understands. Doesn't try to sell me anything I can't afford. Ten minutes later, he walks up to me in the waiting room and asks if I can afford just a fraction more than he already quoted me. We're taking a difference of twenty or thirty dollars. I say, yeah, I can swing that. Now I'm going to be driving safely home with four new tires and an oil change. Looking at me, I'm probably as stoneyfaced as ever but inside, I've nearly been moved to tears. I'm floored by his compassion. Called at 10am for a antifreeze leak test and thermostat replacement. Was told they would have the part by 2:30pm. Dropped the car off and called numerous times to see if it was ready. Finally gave up at 5:30pm (they close at 6). Nothing was done so 3 hours wasted. Next morning went to Rayco in Eatontown. read more

The first time I visited Mavis, Shrewsbury, my car was given back to me with grease on light colored fabric on the door. I worked very hard to scrub it out and some of it still remains. The second time, I noticed they covered the seat and head rest with plastic and provided a mat covering. However, the same light colored fabric on my door was once again soiled w with black grease, which again was hard to get out and still leaving some grease behind. My glove compartment was also soiled, but that was easily cleaned. Today, I returned and while waiting for another repair to complete, a fellow at the desk was on speaker phone and conversing how he hit a Fu**ing deer on route 18 which deployed the airbag, etc. while the conversation continued using Fu** this and that. After, that conversation, I also heard how some of the workers return the cars to the customers in an unfinished condition and the customers have to go back to have it finished properly. During this visit and subsequent visits this fellow and a younger co worker exchanged argumentative words with one another right in front of me while I was checking in and leaving. Can you guess what I found when I returned to my car again??? Get it ALL together and don't require a review to rate w at least one star to submit! read more

I really wish I had read these reviews too. The manager Akeem, tried to weasel out of admitting something was wrong with the install of new tires. I had purchased 4 new tires on 8/4, noticed they all had lost air the week following. Brought the car in and a very nice guy named Thomas checked the tires and finding nothing wrong, filled the tires. A week later all the tires were low again. I got all sorts of excuses from Akeem, the best was that they were cheap tires (as if cheap tires aren't supposed to hold air). Finally got them to put the car on the lift, and check the tire mounting. The next excuse was that the wheels themselves were corroded. I asked why if they were so corroded didn't the old tires leak also, if the wheels were so bad wasn't I told when the tires were put on. Again Akeem with the great excuses, said that they only did what I asked and put new tires on. As if it weren't their responsibility to bring a condition like that to my attention prior to putting new tires on! End, they replaced the valves and then tried to charge me for new valves when the tires were only two weeks old. Incompetence and sleaze. No air loss noted in the last few days since this incident. Corroded wheels? Just as an added note, customer service told me a regional manager would get back to me. Two days ago. Service like this is impossible to understand nowadays. I made an appointment online on 10/11 for the following day for all new tires for the following day. I get there 20 mins before my appointment time for them to tell me they can't do it to as they are backed up and asked if I could drop it off. I explained to them no as this was my only day off. They then told me they didn't even have the tires I selected in stock. I then asked if they could call the Ocean location and they were just as backed up. They then called Middletown. They just gave them the size. I asked to them verify they had the one I had selected ( I was on a VERY tight buget).. They didn't even ask. They told me I could call and find out. At this point I lost it. Not to be a "karen" or anything but I told them that I was a retail store manager and before sending any customer to another location ( especially one that was 30 mins out of the way) I would call to make sure they have the item in stock. Should have looked at the reviews before I dropped my car there. Had my car nearly a month. For what you ask? To take off THE LUGS THEY PUT ON. Had tires put on in January. In March I needed to get my summer set on. I couldn't get the tires off because the security bolts were on so tight, the key got stripped out. So long story short, after two keys on my dime, 3 weeks in the shop, and a bunch of frustration, I got my car back. Shaun was a complete waste of time as a manager. His attitude is he completely doesn't care about anything. Acting like none of this was his problem. So, like the other reviewers say... STAY FAR AWAY from here. There aren't many things that make me angry these days and this is my first time every leaving a review, but Mavis Discount Tire really pissed me off today. I was told to make my appointment at 8am so my service could be quick. I get there at 8 am and I am told it will be 45 minutes to an hour. An hour later (9 am) my car is still sitting in the lot. 2 hours later (10am), my car is in the garage and still has the same 4 tires on it. Not only that, but another customer who had come in at 9am, was driving off the lot at 10 with his new tire. Fast forward to 12 o'clock (4 hours later) and I was driving off the lot, but the "balanced tires" that Mavis forced me to pay $20 to balance... were off balance. They blamed it on new employees, and said that this was standard practices, but this does not constitute a customer coming in an hour after me, and being serviced before me (for the same service). Some transparency also would have been appreciated. If you are looking for a new tire place since Stafford closed down, do not look here unless you have 4 hours to kill and want to listen to Errectile Dysfunction commercials in a 15 degree waiting room while the manager blows vape clouds and laughs at you. read more

Very disappointed. I am contesting the $7XX credit card payment, due to Mavis refusing to honor an appointment that I made last Thursday night, because they were too busy. That appointment was for them to rebalance my tires after doing the work incorrectly a few weeks ago. They suggested I take another day off work and return the next day. Not happening. I have just come from Steve's Wheel and Tire in Bridgewater, where they took me back to the shop and demonstrated why the tires Mavis sold me were of such poor quality that at least one of them could not be balanced. Notwithstanding, they rebalanced everything and did some tweaking of how the tires were mounted to the wheels, and I left there with substantially better handling than when I arrived. I suggest you take your business elsewhere. Regardless of how this dispute is resolved, I will need a new set of tires to replace my new tires. read more

Go anywhere else! I really wish I had read the reviews before going to this location. If you are a woman, they will try to sell you wipers and oil change before your car is in the shop. As I waited there for a few hours, I noticed they only did this to the women. If you buy tires, they tack on all kinds of additional charges. You will also get no warranty on the new tires unless you purchase it. They also lie about your car needing work that it doesn't. For an added bonus, you can report the incident to their corporate office and get a chance to speak to, or should I say argue with a rude representative that defends the fraudulent practices at this location. read more

I needed a quick oil change on a Saturday afternoon. First time using STS in Shrewsbury. Oil change was inexpensive for a Caddy I must say. These next 3 things were the game changer; 1) Oil change done, enter car and greasy dirty footprints all over drivers side carpet. I guess inexpensive doesn't include courtesy mat covers. 2) My car STUNK of BODY ODOR, not mine. 3) No oil change sticker (really?), had to ask for one. In November of 2018 I had new rear shocks put on my hyundai. Hyundai found out they were leaking and the shock tops were not put on. Returned june of this year to receive new shocks. I also purchased TWO shock tops from Hyundai. I was supposed to get new shocks because they are under warranty. Went to Hyundai today because it was still making all the same noises. They DID NOT replace my shocks and only put one top on so they stole the other. And they are still leaking. they just wiped off the leakage. I was lied straight to my face by the manager Anthony that they were not leaking but "of course" they put the new shocks in and the two shocks tops. Called corporate today. I want my money back and also for the shock top they stole. read more

Horrible experience! Not only did they take twice as long and charge $400 more than they quoted us (without telling us it would be more) but they did not install our brakes properly. I was driving with my children when I was unable to slow down for a turn. Thank God I was able to come to a stop in a parking lot and no one was injured because of their negligence. Ran over a bolt that completed shredded my front right tire. Being from out of town, i needed a place that could replace it same day. Called around to numerous shops to see if they had my tire in stock and no one did. Clint at Mavis told me he could get the tire there that afternoon and put on and was as good as his word.
