I had to go to Mavis twice in less than a week. The first was for my inspection and oil change. Chris and his staff were awesome. He came out and got me and explained everything they were doing. Then on 36/25 I had to go back because I hit a huge pothole and it destroyed my tire. Again Chris and Lamar and the rest of the staff were very helpful and advised me of everything they were doing. went to mavis on rt44 for inspection and tires. was told that all 4 brakes were bad and rear caliper was bad. It wasn't frozen or leaking, they said it was cracked. Found that odd. I asked for an estimate , being I had a set of rotors and pads home I needed price on 1 set of brakes and labor only on the other set plus caliper. The manager said it would be over $1000. I could buy parts for approximately $300-$350 and do it myself. So failed inspection as I was not good to pay $700+ for labor. I ended up putting on 1 set myself and took car to Firestone for estimate on rear brakes. They gave me a price far lower for rears and inspected calipers which they said were fine. After talking to 2 former employees, both who worked at rt44 location told me that this is their m.o.,finding work you don't need and charging you for it. I've used mavis on rt9 Hudson plaza for numerous tires and repairs and they have always been honest and fair. I'm only writing as to my experience at rt44 location. Also front tire is out of balance so have to get that fixed. read more

I don't know if it's new management or new workers but the place feels a bit shady lately. Nothing horrible but for example. I know of 3 people who recently brought their cars there for nys inspections who all failed due to windshield wiper blades. Not one person had any problems with their blades but they said they were "rough" and could not pass them. How do I know three people? Well when it happened to me I talked to others since this seemed so strange and they happened to talk to others and got back to me how the same thing happened to people they know. Right there and all within the past 4 weeks. And then the charge so much more for the wipers than if you went to an auto parts place. So odd. read more

Brought my Lexus RX350 in because one of the front tires had a belt exposed and obviously I needed new tires. Since I travel a lot I decided to replace all four. The staff was really friendly but suddenly my sensor in one of my tires miraculously broke. They wanted to charge me $89 to fix it. I don't think I should have to pay for something they broke. I can't say enough about how great this place is. We get our oil changes here as well as our NYS inspections. They always try to save us money on any repair, and do not "find" things that don't need to be repaired. I try to save money by changing g out my filters in the car. Today I just couldn't get the engine filter housing's screws loosened. I called a couple places and was told it would cost $45 and one place said $70 for labor...just to loosen 4 screws! Plus appts weren't available for weeks. I called Mavis and was told to bring it right over and he had his mechanic follow me to my car in the parking lot. This wonderful guy got them loose in a couple minutes, threw my new filter in, and I was out of there in less than 10 minutes. No charge. Can't recommend them highly enough! read more

I had a very bad experience trying to my truck inspected. After scheduling an appt they were not able to get to my truck that day. A few days later they said my truck failed and needed 4 new tires. Very friendly and professional staff at Mavis Discount Tire (near the Apple Shopping Center). This is roughly the 4th time going to them for car/tire issues for at least two of my vehicles. Unfortunately, my vehicles have come across nails or random screws from driving around. Every single time I've needed help with a flat or leaking tires, Mavis has been my go to. They are easy to locate and are super fast with their work. The several times that I have been there, they seem to be really great with their customers. The pricing isn't too bad either and they don't try to sell you unnecessary work. You can schedule appointments or walk in. If you need extra assurance to have speedy service, go in early or as close to their opening time (8am). I went early and decided to walk around the corner to grab a quick breakfast from the deli... by the time i was done and back, my car was waiting for me. I'm not entirely sure how their other services are but I would highly recommend them for fixing your tires. The one and only thing that I would change is that they fill your newly fixed tire to match your other tires' air pressure. Other than that, theyre wonderful! Thanks to the guys at Mavis! read more

I had been going to the shop for a couple of years for service. I always found them to be very friendly, never pushy, and punctual. However I did go there to get my oil changed this year and the next day, my engine light came on. (I have a four-year-old Subaru). I was at work down in Westchester, so I went to the local trusted mechanic who said I had no oil. What? They didn't see a leak, but filled up my oil and told me to keep an eye on it. Voila, problem solved. When Mavis changed my oil, they must've emptied it and forgotten to fill it back up. This might be a fluke, hence my three star review, but that's why I don't go there anymore. read more

It's really unfortunate that I will no longer be doing business with Mavis after going to them for 10+ years. I'm not going to name anyone in this review, but they know who they are and it's on them, not their customers. I purchased 4 Goodyear tires online through a special rebate program. When I went in for service, Mavis didn't have a record of my purchase so I provided them with a receipt showing I had paid for the tires, labor install fees/parts and disposal fees online for $844.43. They wouldn't install my tires and told me to contact their customer service. I called and the Goodyear Headquarters themselves contacted the store to provide them with my work order. It was a pain but it was resolved quickly and they did the tire install. I had other work done which came to $299.20 so I used my VISA debit card (chip) to pay and was given a copy of my signed invoice. About a week later I reviewed my bank account and in addition to the charge for $299.20, they charged another transaction for $630.24 which I'm assuming is for the tires (I had already paid for online.) When I contacted the Assistant Store Manager to question the charge, I was referred to the corporate office for an invoice because the work order had been closed out. After about 6-8 unreturned phone calls from their Accounting Dept and a bit of persistence on my part, I finally received a voicemail from a woman (who didn't leave her name) to advise me I should contact my bank and dispute the charge. When my bank disputed the charge, Mavis only sent a copy of a credit card slip showing the charge amount (but no invoice) and my bank upheld the charge. On paper it looks like the transaction is legitimate but that means nothing when I had provided my VISA for the other transaction which gave them easy access to my account. 2 months later, I'm now in litigation through VISA trying to get my money back. Mavis has been dodging their requests for an invoice showing the itemized charges. I have to wait out the time frame given for them to respond tobefore the money can be refunded. The sheer lack of professionalism and unwillingness to cooperate with VISA is the only reason I am leaving this review. If Mavis had simply done more research and realized they charged me in error I would have moved on and not said a word. I would like to warn others to double check your transactions. I know I will eventually get my money back because the charges aren't legit, but I will never get back the hours spent fighting with Mavis. *** In response to Mavis.. My card was handed to the person at the counter. The receipt Mavis provided to my bank for $630.24 is time stamped 13:44:55. The receipt that matches my signed invoice provided to me for $299.20 is time stamped 13:47:22. The unauthorized charge took place prior to the other. My card was charged unbeknownst to me for $630.24 and this receipt provided to my bank from Mavis does NOT have my signature. read more

WARNING! They recommend services not needed! I usually go to the Mavis on Rt 44 in Poughkeepsie and I've never had any problems there. They have always been upfront and respectful and never push any up sells or unnecessary repairs. However, I made an appointment online and the website kept defaulting to book the appt at this Apple Valley location on Freedom Plains Road even though I chose Route 44 (I don't know what was happening - algorithm glitch maybe). So I figured I might as well just go to this location. The reason for the visit? My brakes were making a scraping noise in the morning when I first started the car so I wanted to get them checked out. I went to my appointment and told the gentlemen at the counter what was going on. After giving the car a test ride down the road, the technicians at the store said I needed new rotors and brake pads all around. They were completely shot and it was dangerous to keep driving with them in that condition. I told him I didn't have the money for all that work right then so they recommended that I apply for their credit card to pay for the work. I told him no thank you and that I wanted to get a second opinion. They were not happy with this but gave me back my vehicle. I decided to take it into the dealership. They told me that it was just moisture on the surface of the rotor which would ice up in the cold overnight causing the scraping sound when I first apply the brakes in the morning. They took me into the garage and showed me that there were plenty left on my brake pads and that my rotors looked totally fine. Thank you for your honesty Poughkeepsie Nissan! Shame on you for your lies Mavis! I will continue to take my car to the Mavis on 44 for my tire needs but I will never frequent this Freedom Plains location again!!! read more

On Sunday morning, I needed to drive to Boston from Poughkeepsie to catch a flight out of Logan, and got a flat tire. I knew the spare tire I had was not going to get me to Boston in time for my flight. I put enough air in the flat to get me to Mavis and they were great. They saw the tire had both a nail in it, and a cut in the sidewall. They explained that because the car was all-wheel drive, I needed the same tires on both sides of the axle. They were knowledgeable and efficient and got the new tires on and had me back on the road in far less time than I feared. So helpful...loved the great customer service! read more

It's probably easier for me to just share my email to them: Dearest Customer Service Rep, Hello. I am sitting in the lobby of one of my local Mavis locations for the 3rd time in less than 3 months. My first visit here was regarding a slow leak that I was experiencing in the rear passenger side tire. I was told I should buy a new tire despite little to no diagnostic work being done. So I bought a new tire. My first mistake. My second visit was a mere couple of weeks later, this time due to that very same tire experiencing a slow leak. I was told it was a bad valve stem. The valve stem was replaced and I thought I would be made in the shade for a while before I needed to sink anymore of my hard earned cash into tire-related issues. My second mistake! I'm now here for the 3rd time, again thanks to that very same tire. It went flat yesterday and wouldn't take air. This is absolutely mind boggling to me that a tire should cause this much headache. There's a sign in this lobby prompting customers to share their experience if they are "not 100% satisfied." If I had to describe my level of satisfaction, I would say I'm hovering somewhere around 11%. It doesn't feel right to say 0% though that is closer to how I feel. I don't want to give off a sense of entitlement, but when I buy a tire, I'd like for it to get somewhere close to the advertised mileage. Most of my driving consists of the 12 mile stretch of highway to and from work. Super low-impact sort of stuff. Yet now I'm stuck buying another brand new tire with money I haven't budgeted toward a tire just 2 or 3 thousand miles later. Where does it end? How do I even know I needed that first tire when it was, in fact, the valve stem that needed to be replaced? The way I see it, this is the second time I'm buying a tire I shouldn't need. This makes it super difficult to trust your staff and brand when it feels like I'm being bilked for cash. read more

Bought 4 new tires from a different Mavis over a month ago and woke up two mornings in a row with the passenger right at 11 psi. Very slow leak overnight. Was able to go in right after picking up my daughter from daycare at 530pm and waited in the lobby. At first they didn't even see a nail but found a pretty nice rock had pierced it. There has been a lot of construction and patch work in the area. Was able to have it patched and was out the door pretty quick. Great guys. read more

An all round terrible experience, with a small exception: - they pushed super hard with the up-selling. I get that these guys most likely make the majority of their money on commission, but making your customer uncomfortable and distrustful by pushing for something they really don't need at the time is not the way to go. - I was told 'about an hour' to get the job done (replacing struts and shocks, rotating tires) and was there for 4 HOURS with NO UPDATE at any point until I insisted they talk to me. Even when the job was done, I sat there for another 15 minutes while they answered the phone or talked to each other before checking me out. - once I got home, my husband realized that the alignment, which was fine before we went to Mavis, was off by 30 degrees. He had to bully a manager to get them to fix it for free. The exception: I was able to turn the blaring TV's sound down to silent and read in relative peace in the tiny waiting area. Takeaway: GO ELSEWHERE FOR ALL YOUR TIRE NEEDS!!!! read more

Consumer beware!!!!! So I went to this mavis to get an oil change to my Subaru about 3 weeks ago. I had to because the dealership I normally go to was booked and I needed it. For synthetic, can you believe mavis was $30 more than the dealership? Wow. Secondly, mavis called me and recommended me to get rear brakes as they were low and worn and also said my battery had low voltage that needed replacement. I said for now just do the oil change. So I went to Subaru today to get new tires (had an issue with mavis on south rd Poughkeepsie as well with that). I mentioned the things mavis said I need done. The experts there said my brakes were perfectly fine and had another 10-15k miles left on them. Also they tested the battery and it had the perfect voltage. MAVIS LIED. They tried to just get me to spend money on things on the car it didn't even need thinking I'm a sucker! This is unacceptable and I will never step into another mavis ever again. I will contacting corporate about this, maybe even a lawyer. And by the way, I have the proof. I went to that mavis today and got a print out of the day they said I needed that work done. And I have the receipt from Subaru saying otherwise. So I can back up my words! read more

I just had an inspection today and it was done in no time. I really like the people there, they are friendly and courteous. The first time I went there, I was just changing from my winter tires and they told me of several, rather expensive things that needed fixing. The tire change was cheaper than at Honda but I took my car to my old mechanic an hour away. He verified those "other" repairs and did them for about the same cost. Now that I know that they are trustworthy I have used Mavis for new brakes and will continue to use them in the future. They are nearby, fast, and friendly. read more

My gf went here for tires, and they screwed her over by flushing her power steering pump and lied to her about her struts. When a customer goes in to purchase tires, you have NO reason to open the hood at all whatsoever. The lug nuts are on the outside and certainly not in the power steering pump. I can almost guarantee every car that pulls into their parking lot, has "bad struts". Here's the kicker, they gave her an alignment........YOU CANT ALIGN A VEHICLE WITH BAD STRUTS!!!! These people are victimizing women, taking advantage of them and taking their money. They should be ashamed of themselves. read more

This is the last time I'll be going to this station and hopefully I'll steer some clients away because what happened to me, and as I'm reading other review(ers), I'm no the only one who's been a victim of unnecessary upsell b******t!!!! Just went there this morning for an inspection and to change muffler-which is not under NYS inspection requirements-not yet anyway... The mechanic, whom I found out later when I called back to confront him about his upsell, he was also the manager of the place.... called me in the shop to show me all that he thought was necessary to repair for the inspection except for the muffler and another part that were not necessary. What was necessary was fixed including two tires...ok and then he slaps me with front brakes... Certainly to my surprise I was shocked to hear that as I've just replaced the front brakes last year and believe me I do not drive much, maybe 30 miles/day... But he did tell me, contrary to what he said after the fact when I called back, that the brakes don't pass NYS inspection and need to be replaced.... Shocked and combabulated of course, I told him to proceed. Then, perhaps one hour into the job I remembered where I've changed my brakes, I suffer from PTSD and long-term Memory Loss, and called the shop immediately... Of course it was too late as the Mavis mechanic was done already and he couldn't ring me up fast enough. I confronted him about the issue and told him that the brakes didn't need to be changed and kept on giving me the b******t answer that they did according to NYS inspection law. I had him pack my brakes and took them immediately to the dealership where I've done them last year. Guess what... they didn't need to be changed and NYS inspection would've passed without any issues... Of course I called back, this is where I found out he was apparently also the manager, as that's whom I asked for, and he ABSOLUTELY 100% denied he even told me they needed to be changed. He changed his story telling me that it was his opinion but not a must... I'm sorry, but I do have a college degree in linguistics and languages none other... I think I heard him very well that NYS inspection won't pass me with the current brakes... what a girl to do... Oh yeah... I know... let's screw the f**k out of her... that's what they did $700 later!!! I don't mind paying for absolute 100% needed work... But certainly, I don't like to be taken for a fool, nor would as I assume anyone!!!! So, before you even think of going to this Mavis shop, please think twice... I only went there because Jason, whom I personally known used to work there and thought I wouldn't get ripped off... I was wrong assimilating his worthiness to new management... We made an appointment 3 days ago for 9AM this morning to put tires on my vehicle. Took time out from work (me) and vacation day (husband) and when we showed up for the appointment were told the tires were not in stock yet. No phone call (even though we gave cell phone with instruction to call if issue). Customer service rep could not even tell us when the tires would be arriving. We cancelled the order on the spot. Would not recommend going here...even for an oil change. Visited this location a couple of days ago to get a routine oil change and tire rotation. Their website said FREE tire rotation (as any tire rotation should be). Then I get a call after I dropped my car off from a manager telling me he thinks I should get my power steering fluid flushed and replaced. He claimed the fluid was dirty and that it's routine to have this done every 30k miles or so. My Honda Accord has about 200k on it, so i just told them to go ahead and do it. Researching this after the fact I found out this is a total scam! They also tried selling the same $79 service to my girlfriend when she brought her car there to get new tires. Not only did they rip me off with this service, but they used a generic PSF brand whereas my owners manual says to only ever use Honda brand PSF. BUT WAIT, it gets better! I go to pay after the work is complete and the guy charged me for my tire rotation because I didn't buy my tires for Mavis...what kind of bs is that? So whatever, I paid the guy and left. Pull of of the parking lot and my tires spin on the sand, so I pull over and check my tires and both of the front tires are low on air. After checking the tire pressure BOTH front tires where 5-6 psi under-filled. What kind of tire shop doesn't even bother checking the tire pressure after doing a rotation?! To me this shows total incompetence. To top it all off I had grease all over my drivers side door/ door handle as well as around the wheel wells and on my steering wheel from the mechanics dirty hands. The work I got done was sloppy and they will do anything to get a few extra bucks from you if they can. In my opinion - stay away! read more

I was a faithful Mavis customer for years and was even told by the mavis on RT 9 in poughkeepsie that i was their best customer.
