Buyer Beware Tire Troubles: Mavis Tire Fails to Deliver on Safety Promise Let me share a wild ride of frustration and disappointment I recently experienced at Mavis Discount Tire . It all started on a regular day when I was in the area for a medical visit and found out our CRV needed four new tires. It seemed like a routine fix, but little did I know, it would turn into a nightmare. During a late night trip to Albany Medical Center early last week (around 900 miles with the new tires) we heard a loud banging sound while driving. To our horror, we discovered that the lug nuts on the front driver's side tire were loose and so we tightened them back on and proceeded with caution. We also discovered that all 4 tires were significantly low so we filled them to their required amount. . We ended up having to abandon the car in Canajoharie the next day when rechecking the tire on the way home and discovering it had been pushed off again resulting in 3 missing lugs. That's a dangerous situation that needed immediate attention. We contacted Mavis Tire right away for help. They requested the car be towed to their Ballston Spa location. They asked us if we had a preference of a tow company and we did and they explained that they would take care of him when he got there. They never paid Flanny as promised and from that point on, we were lied to again and again. They told Flanny to call for payment but never took the call. They told us that Flanny never came to see them regarding payment but somehow they had the invoice and he didnt take their payment method either way so we would need to get it from corporate. They told us at corporate that the manager doesnt have the authority to write a check over $300 and our bill was $320 and that was why he wasn't paid. They told us Friday morning that they ordered a rim and it will be here Monday. But here's where things took an even more frustrating turn. They proceeded to say we would be responsible. We reached out to the general manager who interrogated us during the call and then called us back after 6 pm on Friday to tell us that HE investigated and because it has over 900 miles and ran fine for the first 3 weeks we had it that we did something to cause it, refusing to take any responsibility and dismiss our concerns. They later refused to cover the towing costs to bring the car to their shop, refuse to fix the tires and replace the rim and finally leaving us to foot the bill for getting it back to us from Ballston Spa. It's a reminder to always double-check where you take your car for service and demand accountability for your safety. I can only assume this is an isolated event but when you make a mistake, you do what's right and fix it. We asked for nothing more than for you to redo the tires and replace anything that broke or is unsafe as a result of the tire coming loose and pay for the original tow bill. This should have never escalated. This is poor poor customer service. read more

I had an appointment at 10 to get new tires , an oil change and an alignment. I never got a call all day until I called an hour before they closed and they said my car just got up and asked me if I wanted my white letters inside or out.... so I dropped it off at 10 and it wasn't done till 6pm because I walked in there asking for it to be done . they said it wouldn't be too long and I sat for an hour waiting for my car I dropped off at 10... they didn't go over my bill with me (I have never done anything to my car on my own before so I know nothing) and I just paid and left because I was so irritated and upset at that point. my alignment is so bad I am returning in the morning for them to fix it . I spent all day waiting for a call for my car to be done when I wouldn't have gotten it anyway if I didn't go in myself and ask for my car . the shop was closed for an hour before I got my car back. there was oil all over my side door and white stuff on my bumpers , my car is covered in dirt from whatever they did and they didn't bother to wipe it up . never going there again . I made an appointment to have my tires replaced a week in advance. I dropped my car off in the morning on time and later got a call at 5:25pm telling that my car would not be done. I was upset because anytime before 3pm I could have made other arrangements. I am sure at 3pm they knew that they would not finish. I was supposed to travel that evening to avoiding the snowstorm. They promised to have it by 11 am in the morning. Ok, 1 day of vacation lost. The Snow storm hits and the store does not open till 1pm. why because the have no snow removal! 1) Why wasn't my car done, if I had an appointment booked a week in advance? 2) Why does a store in upstate NY does not have snow removal service! After waiting for 3 hours in vain because they said the "company was sending a snowplow truck", I went with my daughter and took to shoveling out the snow from the door to get my car out. 25 minutes of shoveling and my car was out and I was on my way... Lesson learned is that an appointment means nothing, I talked to the Mavis regional manager and the appointment is for them to know when to the tires need to be at the shop. If 10 customers call and make an appointment at 9am they will all get an appointment at 9am. They system DOES NOT EVER show they are booked. So having appointment only means the parts will be there does not mean your call will be serviced. read more

I spent 616.80 too have tire fixed. It wasn't they supposedly replaced a tire valve on the front right of my Nissan rogue. We have spent the last couple of days putting air in the tire because it has been 25 psi or below. I called the store to have my tire looked at on Tuesday and was told they only had 1 tire tech on but if I can stop by the following day by 500 they could get me right in too look at it. I get there around 450 walk in and tell the guy why I am there. He tells me there is no way he can get me in because there are 6 cars in front of me. I say why would the guy I spoke to on the phone tell me to then. I ask him too call the guy I spoke to on the phone. He says I'm not calling him. I say ok can I have the owners number I'll call him. The guy at the desk says he barely talks too him. So he goes out into the garage and comes back says he will get me in but it will be a couple of hours, really. I say I'll wait. I left my job early to get here it's not my problem they don't communicate or speak too each other or look at what they have scheduled for the day. I would never come to this place again. I would tell anyone reading this too go some where else. The guy I spoke to here I think was named Erin or something like that. I read the other reviews and was taken back a bit. Was I in the same location as it sounded like experiences I've had at another Mavis. Sue, at the front desk was professional and authentic in her welcome and even though I was a walk-in she accommodated me. I was treated just as important a customer as someone who had more issues or purchasing tires....my visit was just for a rotation. That made no difference. As I was waiting i witnessed Sue treat every customer with the knowledge of tires, calmness and professionalism, even when two cantankerous "gentlemen" brought their attitudes to the facility. Sue remained calm and went about politely with her professional approach. I liked my service-I liked what I saw of the technicians and I liked Sue and her well toned customer service skills! I made a reservation for last saturday am arrived at my appt and was told"sorry sit alot of staffing called out today so it will be a 4 hour wait. He then said u can come bk next week if desired" i made another app the next week arrived and was told " sorry sir saturdays are busy day that will be a 4 hour wait" The general manager needs to review their procedures to determine if they should do away with the reservation system or indicate that drop off is the only available option. I normally dont complain amd didnt after the first incodent but considering this happened again the next week it is clear that Corporate staffing needs to review their customer experience. message to consumer: do not make a reservation here as the business will not honor the reservation which clearly inficates they do not care about your customer experience read more

Took my car here at the end of November to get new tires. Picked it up the next day everything was fine(so I thought) About a week later I was walking up to my car and noticed something hanging under my driver side bumper. Got down and look and my car was completely smashed from underneath. The fact they had to have known this happened and still have me my car without telling me is insane. Called immediately and spoke to someone and they said the manager would be there the following day. Came in the following day and no manager. I explained the situation and a guy took photos of my car then tried to tell me he has no idea how it would have happened(as if it didn't happen there) It was clear they either drove it on to the lift or put it on the lift incorrectly I honestly have no clue. Long story short I have been getting the run around for almost two months now, they have video footage and know they did it but are only trying to pay for half because I had a small chip on the other side of my bumper. The only time I have ever heard from someone is if I was the one to call. I never got an answer from the regional manager until I called corporate. He tried to tell me the same thing that they would only pay for half when he hadn't even seen photos of the damage. At this point I've had two estimates done, it's over $2,000 in damages and they are taking their sweet time fixing this. Brought my truck in for new tires on the back. Had a 8am appointment and work order placed at 8:05. Sat in waiting room watching other vehicles being brought in while my truck sat outside. After an hour of waiting asked the guy in a white shirt when will the tires be mounted. He said we can't do it here because of 22" custom wheels. Told him BS all 4 tires on the truck were bought here, mounted and balanced, asked for the keys and left. I made an appointment for 12:00 on Thursday for a car inspection and oil change . When I got there they didn't have a waiting room available for myself and my 1 year child. I told them I would be waiting there for the car and the employee told me they would try to get it done fast. I walked to the grocery store to kill an hour when I got back they hadn't even started on my car. It was 38 degrees out and I can't wait outside with my child. I had to get my keys back and leave. I was told they would be there in two days and that I should call to confirm. I called and they told me that someone on their end canceled the order! It wasn't me!! DONT GO HERE IF YOU NEED TIRES. They kept my car past hours of operation and DID NOT EVEN PUT THE BRAND NEW TIRES I PAID FOR ON MY CAR. They sent me off the lot with BALD/RIPPED TIRES and now refuse to give me a refund even though they didn't do their job and screwed me out of the product i purchased. Absolutely sickening. Pretty sure thats against every safety law when it comes to servicing a vehicle. Definitely filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Brought my car to another garage in the area to have it looked over and to fix what needed fixing. I was told that the repairs would include my rear brakes and rotors. As I drove away after picking up my car, I noticed the breaks were making a noise that they never made before and there seemed to be a hesitation while braking. I brought it back and the garage owner said it was just noise and that it would go away eventually, That the brakes had to be broken in first... A few weeks after that, I brought my car to Mavis to have it checked out because I simply didn't trust that owner's word. I was told, and shown, that my front brakes and rotors were rotted and weren't even working. That the callipers were rusted too and needed changing. Ended up costing around $600 but I drove away with no noise and no hesitation. read more

I had a reservation for 9 a.m. to get my tires balanced and rotated, half hour job at the most, ive done it myself dozens of times, when 11:30 came and my car was still sitting outside I told them i couldnt wait any longer. They told me to come back at 2 and they would get my car right in and out. I got there at 2 and my car was finally pulled into the garage at 3:30. It sat on the lift with the tires off of it until 5 pm as they worked on other cars and stood in a circle and talked to each other for hours while I stood there and waited for them to balance my tires which takes 15 mins. Never will I go there again for ANYTHING!!! I highly suggest going elsewhere if you don't have all day to wait and watch them talk to each other. read more

Don't bother making a reservation. I made one online to get snow tires put on for a specific time days in advance, showed up ten minutes early and was told they were "too busy to honor reservations". After they got the car inside the shop it was at least another half hour before they actually got the vehicle up on the lift. After I get it back I discovered the old tires in the back of the vehicle. Thankfully I wasn't charged for disposal. Know your limits. Everyone loves money and wants to work more to get more money. That's completely understandable. But you have to know your limit. If you have multiple reservations, then you can't take walk in customers if you can't complete your reservations. I had a tire reservation for 10am on Saturday. I was told by the guy at the front desk that it'll take couple of hours. So I dropped my car off. My wife called at 2pm. She was told that there's only few more cars ahed of your and it'll s done by end of the day. They close at 5pm so I decided to drive by at 430pm. The car should have been long done by now. But it was sitting right where I left it. I walk into the store. The front desk guy was definitely overwhelmed with calls but all he could tell me was that it'll be done by 12pm next day. Unacceptable. I was not in any mood to argue so I simply walked out the door. Yes, there website was very easy to navigate, find my tires, and set up a reservation. Definitely saved me some time in that aspect. However, if you have time, buy tires over amazon. They will ship them to your house for free (Mavis charges $20 per tire to be delivered to the location), and then you can find a local mechanic who will get it done for you. The local mechanic may ask you to come another day. But as long as you set up an appointment, they will honor it and get the job done the same day. read more

Absolutely terrible service! I made an appointment for a simple state inspection. I told them I had an F3 50 pick up truck. I showed up for my appointment and waited a complete hour for them to get to my truck. And then was told the inspection would take a half an hour. I told the manager to give me my keys and I left. He never even bothered to apologize for making an appointment and not being ready for it. Not to mention there's nowhere to sit down in their waiting room which is a tire show room.
