I used this place before it became Mavis and it was stellar.. NOW its not very good. I pull up and ask the desk Manager if they can check a tire for a leak and repair if needed... he said sure there is a three hour wait. I said ok I'll be back...Three hours later , another Desk Manager or whatever he is said , sorry the are all booked up.. I tell him the other manager (standing right next to him, said to come back in three hours...so then the the first genius pipes up and said, I said three hour wait , like it was a trump card. Accepting no responsibility what so ever for his initial guidance... Now I ask you, the public, is it safe to figure that when genius #1 said three hour wait, that I would be serviced after I returned in three hours? Or should I have figured out that the he meant that it would be three hours before he could tell me there were no appointments available? Even if that were the case, why would he tell me to come back? He should have shown some character and said I'm sorry I screwed up and that would have been fine with me, end of story. I would have made an appointment and come back. We all screw up. The point here is that MAVIS in Hackensack is filled with incompetent desk help. I would never return to that place, which happens to look like a dump. Good luck with them if you dare. And I live in Teaneck. No idea how Yelp has me in SF. read more

This place is horrible. Let me say that again... Horrible. I want to stress that. On two separate occasions I've had them tell me that I needed hundreds of dollars worth of work done when all I did was bring it in for an oil change and to get the rear tires replaced. I've heard stories from multiple people about STS being very shady with what work in their words "needed" to be done. A co-worker was told she needed new tires when she had literally bought them 2 months earlier and another co-worker brought in a van for some light repair and was told that it needed thousands of dollars worth of repair. Hi, I purchased 4 Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus tires online because the price was amazing. I noticed that I thought the installation was high, but after all was said and done, it was still cheaper than the competitors. I was called before the appointment was scheduled and they said I could come right in that day to get the tires. I waited several hours at the store and finally the work was done, they were a little pushy about brakes, but I thought that this was "normal" for mechanics, and I told them that I ONLY use oem brakes because I have used almost everything and didn't like any vibration on the wheel when braking. I did end up doing the brakes myself and noticed that they didn't remove the old wheel weights, they just slapped new ones on too. The techs replaced the tires and did the alignment.. almost $800 later, my car shook like it had epilepsy while I was on the highway. I asked about what type of warranty they had for balancing, and they said none. I ended up having to bring the car somewhere else and pay $200 for road force balancing, which I should have done in hindsight anyway. I am really upset because the money that I thought I saved, I had to spend elsewhere. I would stay away unless you want to get low quality work for low prices. read more

I've taken my car here a few times. Always had a negative experience. Staff is pretty rude. One day I came in because I was losing air in both front tires, I let them know, multiple times it was both front tires. Came back and they had pulled out metal from one of the tires. They hadn't touched the other tire, so they looked at it, waited another 30 minutes, and pulled out another piece of metal. Drove off and the next day I was still losing air in the one tire they looked at quickly. Brought it back and low and behold they found more scrap metal, charged me full price for the second visit of course. read more

Went in for new tires (4), the tires recommended by the man behind the counter when installed rubbed on fenders (too tall), tell me that's what I wanted well ok but the right size please(don't they have a database? ) Tires are directional and they installed 2 out of 4 backwards(not kidding). again removed reinstalled. they don't torque the lugnuts they impact gun them on which is a big nono and the shraeder valves were not lined up with the tire marking. couldn't wait to get out of there(2 hrs later on a friday) came in a 2pm left at 4:30. wow, never again read more

I was really surprised to see such bad review in Regards to this location. Fortunate for me, I had a totally different experience. I foolishly put metal tire stem caps on my 2013 Honda Accord EX and the seized to the tire stems. On a visit to the dealer the dealer told me that they would try to take them off, but that if the TPMS sensor broke it would be between $250 - $300 each to replace. I as t gonna go for that so I Youtube'd it and found out that o could cut the stems off. Long story short, I cut the stem caps off but cut too deep and cut into the stem now i cant put air in my tire. I shopped around and found that I could get new TPSM for about $80 a piece, at Mavis. Cool. I took a ride over there and spoke with the very nice gentleman at the front counter, explained my situation to hime and he said fine. My car went in and about a half hour later they bring it back out...$42 he tells me. I was expecting a bill of at least $360 (not counting tax and labor) for four TPSM monitors. $42 he tells me. What did you guys do? "We changed just the stems, didn't need to changed the entire TPMS Sensor." So, although they could have made $400 - $500 off me, the only made $42. I didn't believe it. Definitely made my day!! So, Im sorry to all the people who have had a bad experience at this location, but for me, that was not the case. On Wednesday I called to order 4 tires for my car. They told me they were going to get the tires from another store and they would be available for installation at 6pm. I got there at 6pm and was told they would not be able to be installed for a minimum of 2 and a half hours and they advised me to come back on Saturday between the hours of 11 and 11:30 so that the installation could be done timely. I got there at 11 and was told that there were too many cars ahead of mine and I had to leave my car to pick it up at 2:30 when it was finished. Once 3 pm came around I still had not been called so I went back only to find my car still in the lot untouched. When I approached the man he told me it had been finished. I showed him the tires had not been changed and the man extremely rudely said he did not call me to come pick it up asked if I wanted to cancel the order. After having wasted so much time and dealing with so much unnecessary aggravation I went to Costco where my tires were replaced quickly and for $5 less a tire! The icing on the cake is they had to the nerve to call me after the fact to see if I still wanted the tires! read more

I was quoted "$619 out the door when I called". One would assume that includes all fees including tax. When i get to the store I find out its $674! Okay, I get it mistakes can be made. When I got the price and made an appointment time I asked for anytime when I will get right in the shop. I was given 8am today and the Store Manager was late a few minutes opening the store. Now its 8:27am and the car is still sitting in the parking lot and I dont see any mechanic reporting for work. Furthermore, I found the store managers demeanor to be rude. I am grabbing my keys and getting out of here. So now I am at a different Mavis trying to get tires on my wife's car. They have Hankooks but I really wanted the general tires that are in Hackensacks location. The Store Manager in Fairlawn said "No problem I can personally go get them for you". What a very nice man! However, when he contacted Hackensack the store said they dont have the 2354518 98v General tires. I just laid my eyes on them as the stack of 4 tires is sitting immediately next to the waiting room 3 feet beyond the shop entrance door on the left! I also made an appt in Hackensack for 1 week later to put these same tires on so how could they not have them! Theres a better shot of hitting the lottery than the hackensack selling these 4 tires without mechanics working... This is unbelievable...I am about to get stuck with tires I dont want! Bought the noisey Hankook tires for the same money the General tires would of cost. No dignity, work ethic, or respect in the Hackensack location. Typical bait & switch. I bought a set of 4 tires for my Audi A4 last may 2016 and was recommended by the store to buy Starfire WR tires. Apparently it had all good ratings, so I put 'em on. The only issue is that I don't take the car out much, hardly driven and mostly on nicer days. It has been 11 months and I decided to take it out in the rain and experienced dangerous drifts mainly oversteer on highway curves at less than 55 mph. Mind you the car's designed to handle a lot more. Called up mavis, explained my situation and was told that since I bought warranty on these tires, they will prorate it based on the amount I've used. I drove 5000 miles on these tires, tread depth went from 10/32 to 8/32, which means 80% tread life left. I paid 120.00 for these tires/ea. but after a bunch of talking back and forth with their "regional" manager, they decided to give me a new set of pirelli's at a 25% discount instead. Basically, they don't care about the tires I've got less than a year ago, still under warranty, even after I mentioned that it's not very safe in wet road conditions. Why waste my time to bring myself over there after a phone discussion to not have your promise delivered? Very dishonest! I really don't care if you want to throw in a "free" balancing either. I serviced all my 3 cars here regularly, no more. Stay away from these guys, they just lie to every customer, no point in giving them the benefit of the doubt. read more

My experience with Mavis Tire on October 6th went smoothly when I went to get a full tire change, rear brakes changed, alignment set up, and what this complaint is about - an oil change - until a month later. My car failed to start and after an assessment with a mechanic, I was told the car lacked oil. I spoke with the manager Rey at Mavis Tire who assured me that the oil was changed, as the filter used is of their company. I mentioned that no sticker had been placed to remind me of the next oil change, my invoice listed that I had in fact paid for that service, and yet a mechanic had found no oil nor a leak. I asked my mechanic to speak to the manager directly to which he mentioned that when he spoke to Rey, he was told that they had forgotten to change the oil. Rey's claims to both of us were not consistent and he did not assist us in resolving the issue even after a 3-way conference call. read more

If i could give this place zero stars i would They stole my freon My ac was having problems, the cold air was cutting in and out. I went to a mechanic near my girlfriend's place in brooklyn, and they told me my freon level was fine, and all I needed was to replace my fuse that runs the ac. They didn't have the part, so they weren't able to fix it. I so I went to STS near where I lived a few days later, asking them if they had the part. They took my car to the back away from my view and told me they will "look" at it. 30 minutes later, they told me I had no freon. I didn't believe them and left. But this time, my ac was not cooling at all. I went back to the mechanic in brooklyn and they told me my freon was gone. STS IS VERY SHADY!!! They took my freon!! STAY AWAY!!! read more

When I called to make an appointment, they told me they had a special. Great right?! No, of course not. I had a feeling they would try to tell me I need new rotors. I inspected my rotors this morning to be sure there was no issues, lips, scars etc. My car only has 26k miles on it and es expected, my rotors were in good shape. I went for coffee after dropping off the car. They called me and explained that I was experiencing vibration because my rotors are bad. I replied that I did not report any vibration and that neither me nor my husband had experienced this while driving our car. I told them I will pass on the new rotors. They then refused to replace my break pads unless I got new rotors. I took my car and left. They will not be getting by business ever. read more

What a horrible experience! Bought 4 new tire and both back and front breaks. Left with more things wrong with the car than when I came in they broke the handle of the door. All of the lights from all the sensors are on. Manager gave me a quote for a service that I needed but couldn't be done on the weekend. OK I ordered them and they would call when they came in sometime before noon. No call at 3 pm so I went back and new person on desk had no idea what I was talking about. I made another appointment for two days later to get the tires I wanted. Second time there, I get the tires on and when I try to pay with the Mavis card to get an extra $100 off they tell me no. Been going here for a while now. Not just for tires but they are my go to guys for car problems. Number 1 thing i can say about these guys is, they are trustworthy. From managers to mechanics, the customer service is great and all i can say is i trust them with my car which isn't something i can say for a lot of mechanics. Me and my wife have gotten new tires, new breaks and rotors, and other things done here and they did a great job. Don't oversell you or tell you how much better you should be taking care of your car. They simply tell you whats wrong and what they can do to fix it. Rest is up to you. I went to Mavis to have my tire fixed at 10:00 am in the morning and the manager, Ray, told me it would take 2 hours so I agreed. I called in after 2 hours at 12:00 pm and Ray just pushed me off until "further notice". After another 2 hours of waiting with no call back, I went in and my car was still not serviced. Ray began arguing with me and disrespecting me. I ended up taking my car after 4 hours without it being fixed. Please do no waste your time with Mavis Discount Tire located in Hackensack because all they do is tell lies and disregard their customers. First time coming WITH an appointment to change one tire, I went to workout and over an hour later, car hasn't been moved from where I parked it. I decided they must be having a crazy day so I rescheduled my appointment for the next day. I come in, asked how long it should take- they tell me 15 minutes. It has been over an hour and I am still sitting here. Car is on the lift with no tire in it. Do not come here if you have anything to do for a couple hours. Very sloooow. Horrible and Ray is a LIAR!!!!! I went to Mavis because my tire light came on about a month ago so I was in the area and figured let me get it checked out. Ray tells me all my bridgestone tires need to be replaced. He brings out a thing to show me the wear and tear of the tires goes on and on about how they all need to come out. So I decided to replace only the back two tires and they didn't ask me if I needed warranty on those tires. A month in with the new ones in the back my tire light came on again. I took it this time to Meineke and just to see if Ray was right that I needed to replace all of them I asked them what they thought of my front two old tires they tell me it's fine. I don't need to get them replaced right now but the flat was on one of the tires that Mavis sold me!!!! This makes me question how honest Ray is. Maybe my two Bridgestone tires didn't need replacements and they only had a flat which could've been patched up. That wasn't what Mavis did instead they had me getting the back two replaced. I understand they're in the business of selling tires but be honest while doing it. Give people your honest opinion rather than just trying to make money off of them and then giving them Kelly tires while you take their Bridgestone tires. I've been an STS customer for some time now but I recently moved to Englewood, NJ in 2012 so I get my car serviced at the STS in Hackensack. I've always received excellent customer service from their center and the same goes for the one located in Hackensack, I have always had good experiences at this location so I am not sure where all the negative comments are coming from. As a female I tend to feel like i'm being cheated but the guys at STS are always upfront with me and explain everything to me so that I understand what's going on with my car. I always run the recommendations that STS gives me by my dad to make sure that I am not being misled and my dad has never had an issue with the work that was done on my car. I definitely feel like my car is well taken care of at STS. read more

Here's the deal. Ray, one of the managers at the main desk is a great guy and he's very straightforward and knowledgeable. He'll tell you what you need and what you don't. I trust him and that goes a long way. But you have to participate in your own decisions. Mavis is a big company and the clearly look to maximize every car's visit to their shops. Upselling is just a reality. I don't think they try to sell you things you don't need, but you might not need them yet. So the decision is yours. But when Ray says there is a big issue, I listen to him. If they have to relook at something they didn't do right, they fix it. I like the lifetime warranty on the brake pads. As for tires, do your homework before you go in. Know prices and know quality so you can have an educated discussion. Overall I like the place, and I like Ray. read more

I took my car at 9:15am for 2 tires to be changed and an alignment. On the phone I was told it's an hour work. I asked would it be ready by 1pm? I was told for sure... at 11:40 I call asking if it's ready? They say they are backed up and I ask if it would be finished by the latest 1:30 at least they say yes we will make sure... I get another call for another issue and ask shall I come and they say yes should be done 20-30 minutes at this point is 1:45... I am there and see my car just being lifted up and the guy who is supposed to work decides he has to have lunch first rather than work on my car... mind you I have to pick up my kids in less than an hour and I am freaking out... I ask them when it will be done and hey say a few more minutes it's at this point 2:10 and I have lost my patience and I make a stink but no one cares.... I left my car at 9:15AM for a tire change and it took bloody 5 hours and no sincere apologies... the guy at the register wasn't caring, was on the phone non stop and didn't try to make the situation better... after all this and an alignment I look at the sign on my car and it still says please check tire pressure!!!!!! read more

Absolutely horrible! They lie and rip people off they charged me synthetic oil when I only asked for regular oil and told me that I asked for synthetic. I come to find out that they did the same thing to two of my friends they told one friend that her brand new car needed the synthetic oil. They have a sign that says "you pay for work you authorize" and I am ashamed of them for taking advantage of people the way they do. My wife was here a month ago for tires and an oil change. They told her that because they couldn't get her oil filter off so they just left it on and only charged her for the new oil. I grew up in garages doing oil changes and tune ups and I've N E V E R heard of a case where an oil filter is impossible to remove (I would have done the oil change myself, had it not been for the fact she needed tires). I've even bored holes into the filter housing to use an awl for leverage, but never did I leave an old one on. These idiots are lucky I was home with our baby instead of being there, since I would have refused to pay for the new oil. What good is new oil after it runs through a dirty filter? read more

Youry and Timur helped me out when I had a flat tire and needed an oil change. Price for a new tire was reasonable but the oil change price was the best in the area. They were even nice to let me know of their rebate special they were having. I would've given them 5 stars if I felt that Youry didn't treat me like an incompetent person when it came to the prices of an air filter and cabin filter but thank God for smart phones! He was kind enough to admit his mistake and also tried his best to match the price I showed him. Besides the filter issue, they did a decent job and were kind enough to even help me when I had a flat tire 2 miles away over the phone. I came into the store, a wonderful young lady assisted me, quoted prices. When I came back the following day to have the work done, she was not there, it was probably her day off. After waiting a while the gentleman behind the counter was apparently having some issues on the phone. Ignored me, really did not acknowledge that I was there. That should have been my cue to leave. I stayed till he was done (approx 10-15 minutes). Told him I was in the day before and had gotten a price quote. He could not find the paperwork and had to go through the whole routine again. Attempted to up sell me. Work was done, I left. Over the next few days I noticed one of my tires was loosing air and had to constantly refill till I had the opportunity to get back. Again, the guy was the only person, again on the phone discussing an issue with their computer system and again waited, and waited. He finally attended to me, I told him of the problem I was having, they pulled the car in. After checking it out, he claimed that my rim was warped, they will see what they could do to prevent the tire from loosing air (strange in that the tires I had mounted before they were replaced, not one had air loss!). Most of my driving up until that point were on local speeds, 35mph or under. When I went on the highway, the car did not ride smoothly. Instead of taking the car back to STS I had the auto dealer where I bought my car and have all service work done, look at the car. They check the tires for balance and saw that they were out of balance, they corrected the tires. After leaving the dealership I made it a point to get to a highway and take the car to 70mph... the car hummed - perfect. So I paid STS $67.96 for computer balance and $79.99 for wheel alignment to this I now have to add $59.95 to the dealer for their work. Prices noted do not reflect the sales tax that was added. Oh and the STS sales person said that my battery was no good and should consider a new battery, to which I told him the battery was relatively new and I would take it back to the dealer to check. So when the PROPER wheel balance was performed, they also checked out the battery. The battery was PERFECT. Guess what, I will never go back here again. And the reason I did not go back to have the tires recheck and opted to go to my dealer... I could not deal with that person again. It might be a great place to shop, but the person they had working there is lucky he has a job!. read more

I recently had an issue with my car mirror and I stopped by STS during my lunch break and immediately upon arriving I was helped by the gentleman at the front desk. He proceeded to guide me to one of the mechanics who would assist me in fixing the issue with my left side mirror housing. I have to say I'm very cautious on who I let service my Lexus but everyone at STS was more then helpful.They fixed the problem and I walked out very happy with the level of service from all these gentleman. I will definitely be back in the future and I will be recommending my friends here as well. Lexus quoted me over $400 for the repair on my vehicle and these guys did a superb job and saved me hundreds of dollars. These guys are very honest and will not try to rip you off in paying more then you need to. read more
