Two words...Life Savers! As I was about to hit the road and head back to NYC on a Sunday evening, my car suddenly began making a loud chugging noise and the battery light came on. I immediately pulled over and into a gas station. I had to leave my car there overnight as a tow truck would be too expensive and there were no auto shops open. The next day, I tried to get it fixed at a Mavis across the street from the gas station however, they did not have a mechanic available. The staff at that store referred me to this Bloomfield shop and I'm so grateful for the opportunity. Kyaire (I hope I am spelling it correctly) and Mery welcomed me and immediately had my car serviced. It turned out to be the alternator. Kyaire kindly explained the issue in the simplest way possible and provided a remedy along with reasonable pricing. He also explained the warranties, risks of what could happen if I chose not to follow the recommendation, and estimated time for completion of the work. I agreed to everything and sat for maybe 2 hours while my car was serviced. When everything was done, I asked them to take a look at my fluids. Carlos (I hope I have the right person) checked everything and gave me recommendations on how to monitor and change them. He noticed my engine oil was low and filled it up as a courtesy. My car sounds great and it's running smooth now. It was an all around wonderful experience and I'm so very grateful for their assistance and guidance. Pricing was also reasonable for the work. While I sat waiting for my car, I noticed that the service was consistent with everyone. Kyaire takes time to review the issue with customers and assist them without being pushy or excessive. I sincerely wish they were closer to me in NYC because I would choose them as my go-to place for maintenance and repairs. Overall, a great experience. They can't do anything but work on tires apparently. Oil change, one guy for that. If you're leaking anti-freeze good luck. They don't have anything that can fix that. They'll tell you to drive to West Orange. I wouldn't even go there for tires after reading some reviews. Just close down this site or hire guys that actually work on cars! read more

So, they get a 1 because they messed up a wheel alignment. My vehicle was hit by a drunk driver a few weeks ago, their insurance didn't want to cover, so I went through mine. Geico did a great job! Took care of everything. The repair center I took it to, brought it to Davis to get an alignment. I have no clue what they did, but I know what the didn't do! They did not do my alignment! Luckily I didn't pay a penny. So there is that! But I had to bring it to my dealership to get it fixed. And I'm giving that bill to the repair shop. Other people seem to have decent experiences here, I didn't. I am 100% not going back here. read more

The people are nice and it's a reasonably pleasant place to wait. That's the extent of the positive things I have to say. I already do not trust this location because after two visits they were unable to recognize that my brake light came on every three months because the brake lines were shredded. Instead they told me to go to a dealership the next time because they weren't equipped to deal with it. (I went to a local service shop recommended by an acquaintance.) They also sold me a completely useless brake system and steering system flush. But I had two flat tires and needed someplace open in the pandemic that would have tires available and a reasonably comfortable place to wait. (The service shop doesn't have a reasonably comfortable place to wait.) So I went there in September to have the tires looked at and was told that because they'd been flat for awhile they couldn't be saved. In the process, despite telling them that I wasn't interested in anything else, they tried to upsell me with suspension work and another useless flush to the tune of another $1500 or so on top of the $460 I paid for two new tires. Within a week, one tire was flat again. Within three weeks, so was the other. After a lot of rigmarole, I find out that the flats, both then and before, were caused by corrosion around the rims that caused a slow leak. Mavis tells me I need 4 new rims but they don't carry them. However, if I buy them elsewhere, they will install them for a fee. They say it's not possible to clean the corrosion. Turns out the service shop sells rims, but they tell me to bring the car in so they can take a look. Maybe they can clean them. I take it in and lo and behold, after an hour's worth of work, they have cleaned the rims of the two wheels that caused the problem, told me the other two wheels are fine (so saying all four rims needed replacement was a lie), and demonstrated that cleaning the corrosion was just too much work for Mavis/incompatible with sloppy work and quick turnover, so telling me it wasn't possible to clean the rims was also a lie. Furthermore, I waited considerably less time than I did at Mavis and paid $54 as opposed to $100/rim plus $20 per wheel to install them. Avoid this place like the plague! In the future I will go to the service shop (which also sells tires) for any car issue I have. (PS I live in Belleville, NJ; I have no idea why Yelp or Facebook think I'm from San Francisco.) read more

I have only had terrible experiences at Mavis: - 3 hours to fix a simple flat tire - 2 hours waiting before being told I would have to come back another day for a simple maintenance service - Clerks who couldn't locate my appointment on their system - Some employees are totally unprofessional and poorly trained I don't know if these guys are understaffed or just poorly trained, but my experiences at Mavis have not been pleasant. read more

I foolishly decided to call customer service after they left a response to my review, thinking it would help me feel better. Lol, NOPE. Just as a reminder, THE MECHANICS HERE DROVE MY CAR INTO A PARKED CAR AND BROKE MY TAIL LIGHT. I will give props to Sharon, the customer service rep. She was kind over the phone and I know this isn't her fault. She tried to call the manager of the Mavis and I guess he was just like "nah, she authorized those repairs and she needed it, so no." I guess I didn't authorize that oil change you comped, right? The oil change I originally went in there for? And they keep saying oh, we fixed your tail light free of charge though. YOU BROKE MY TAIL LIGHT, how is that even a consolation? The most they can do is offer me a voucher for an oil change in the future. I politely told Sharon that if that's all they can do, then they can count on me never going to Mavis again, so the manager there can take that voucher and eat it. Sharon also sent a note to the regional manager and he called me two days later and offered vouchers again. I respectfully declined because I do not want to give them any more of my service. What sets me off the most is the way they spoke to me on Saturday when I complained. Sure I was upset, but I was giving upset/verge of tears vibes. And what did the workers do? Choose to be defensive of their actions (you read that right, defensive of them driving my car into a parked car), and not even offering anything else to make me feel like my patronage is important, after three years of coming here. Just the oil change you came in for, which was three times cheaper than the labor and fluid they charged me for. Lol, the labor that also drove my car and broke my tail light, cool. Worst experience ever....I have been buying tire sets from Mavis for years as well as handling my other repairs with them...I came in for a warranty repair on two tires that had bubbles in them from a NJ pothole. The guy who took me in was very polite. He went over everything with me and said would be handled. He came out about 45 mins later and said I need an allignment, which I declined as I get them cheap at Ford. He said no problem car will he ready in 15 mins. A few minutes later another guy came out and said I owed 450$!!!...I said what for? He said 2 new tires. Told him I had warranty/road hazard, and it was covered. He says you didnt gell me that and I cant check because the tires are off the rim. I said I told the original guy that when I came in and also offered to play phone recording of original phone appointment when we went over everything and set up time to come in(Govt employee phone records all calls)...He said he wasnt interested, threw the pen down and told me fine and the gave me a price of like 280 something ..I said whys it still so high? He says tire warranty plus allignment, I put it up and checked and fixed it. I said I specifically told the other guy I did not want it, then some random guy in the waiting area said, I heard him too...Then this guy took my keys from infront of me and said I'm keeping the car till you pay...Told him not paying for something I told you not to do, and if he needed verification to go get the original guy(turns out original guy is manager) and bring him in here and he can verify that I told him no...He hissed and fussed and mumbled some stuff under his breath and then have me another price of 168.00???...Again asked him why so high, told him I have used the road hazard warranty before on several sets (exact same tire model and brand) and it was never that much. He told me the peices just changed. I asked him when they changed and he said well when did you buy them, give me a date...I said I'm not telling you anything till u tell me when the price changed. We went back and forth about that for a while till I said maybe I need to contact the police as I feel you are trying to scam me . I asked him cor his name and he refused to tell me...I asked for a manager and he said I am the manager, I said so please tell me your name he still refused...Told him I'd call corporate, and I'm sure they could get it...It was a heated exchange at this point, I told him I want a break down of the charges , he said "you can read cant you"....I started comparing the prices I was charged today vs the last 4 or 5 times I had been there and none of it matched up...A few minutes later, He told me to go into the garage where the other guy was...He asked what the problem was and I explained everything to him.. He verified that I did NOT ask for the allignment, and it wasnt done...I said so wait, here we are arguing about me being charged for an alignment I didn't want and now you tell me that you never did it, which is what I wanted, yet this mechanic is telling me hes charging me for it because he personally set it up and did it....So once again, hes trying to scam me... He kept standing behind the other guy saying I did the right thing right? And then smiling at me and telling me "I told you"...Told the manager I dont appreciate being threatened to not get my car back and scammed by the mechanic, in which he just kinda politely ignored and kept explaining things (Rightfully so, he was attempting to deescalate the problem, understood).. He broke down the pricing to me, went over all my old service and purchased and said look, all the previous times you were charged wrong, it's based on the tire and they all charged you too little. I told him I had negotiated a discount via price match with the corporate number and he said they wrote it up wrong all those times and I never should of got that price...(Price is why I come back to Mavis every year for new tires as well as my girlfriend, who just spent 700 on snow tires late last year and new tires a couple months ago) I've spent thousands here... Long story...I was charged 167$ to replace 2 tires with hazard warranty... When every other time I was charged probably half of that.. Dont know what to believe but it doesnt seem right that corporate gives me one price year after year that several locations honor just to he told everyone has been doing it wrong, consider yourself lucky..Guess they dont care about repeat customers.Will go back to buying tires at Firestone, they are more expensive but I never dealt with these types of headaches, threats and unprofessionalism. I began going to Mavis vs Firestone because my job gets vehicles serviced here and they are always quick and cordial. We always dealt with Larry. Well today Larry wasn't here and things were horrible, from the customer service, turn around time, and office/shop cleanliness. Steve helped me out once I came in for my scheduled oil change, he asked if I was staying here and I said yes. I've been here for 2 hours so far and no one has told me not a thing about my car or how many people are in front of me. I look and my car hasn't been on the lift/ looked at. I stood in line to speak to Steve and he then made me aware my just so happened to be next. The manager Anthony chimed and he is the worst, I got to hear him BS a lady on the phone since I was sitting here for 2+ hours. I also got to witness him turn some people away and take some people for tire jobs since they said they weren't taking anymore tired jobs. When he chimed him he said he would give me a discount, I don't care about that, and that having an appointment didn't guarantee timely services, just that the car would be seen today. An average oil change takes 30 mins, not 2 almost 3 hours, this is utterly ridiculous. As a customer when you see the manager act like him, chilling, while your waiting for something simple it doesn't sit right. Also when you call the number from the store location it's not even them! It's a call center that just gets you a quote and tells you to come in to install the tires where you will not meet with the person from this call center.... My issue with all of this was that the site is false information... call center is NOT up to date... the stores are not up to date with their own inventory... the manager at the store does not even show face after the complaints After 40min of wasted time with calling the call center for tires that is no longer basing made but on their Mavis Web Site! Went here last weekend to get a new set of tires, since One had a flat and they were almost due for replacement. My spouse called ahead, was given a quote and told there was no wait. I arrive 30 min later... at least a 2 hour wait and an upsell to another brand because the phone was for "really cheap, not-so-reliable tires". WHY do they do that? Just to lure customers in? Anyway, I agreed to the "safer" brand at a slightly higher cost and took a car service home. Upon my return for pick up, I am told by the same employee that they "ran out" of the tires we agreed to, so they put on "even better" tires (at an even higher price point). Who gave permission to do that? Did you call me to ask if I was ok with it? No. Did you come me the bait and switch tires at the lower price, since you "ran out" of what we agreed to? No. All this leaving a customer with their back against the wall because the service already took at least 2x the phone quote! I wound up paying about $75 more than what I was told when I left my vehicle in their care. Shame on you, Mavis. I'll be sharing this review on every platform possible. read more

It seems like there may have been a miscommunication and will refund labor...I just recommend you know exactly what you are requesting and getting as I should have made sure everything was clear instead of assuming you are on the right page. They did seem to care about making it right, so I think that's really important to a business so I increased my vote because I have had some lousy customer service experiences, but if a place wants to make right and make a customer happy, then I want to give them credit. I had an engine light on, looked up likely causes, asked them to replace that part. The guy really tried pushing a $100 diagnostic test, but if through research I found that it's 90% likely for my make/model to be a certain sensor I didn't see the point. He seemed like he didn't know what the sensor was even though I had a print off where it had the name. He told me I meant something else, another sensor, and since I don't know a lot about cars I trusted him and had the other part replaced. When the engine light came back on, I went to another shop and they confirmed I was right, the sensor I had named as the problem was the problem. STS is either incompetent or scammers who tried to take advantage of the fact I don't know a lot about engines. Buyer beware! I went back to speak to manager but he told me to talk to the guy (the assistant manager) who I originally talked to. I am going to try to get a straight answer from him or from corporate but my impression so far is that they really don't know what they are doing. If they replaced the exact part I had asked for without misleading me, then I wouldn't have had to blown money on a second repair. I am very unhappy with service here and plan to see if I can get a straight answer. read more

I don't think I can trust this location anymore. I've had new tires and oil changes done here. But my mom was there yesterday to fix the car's brakes. They told us that her car was not safe to drive - that she needed her front brakes and struts and stabilizer link replaced. Totally make sense. They said the rear brakes were fine at 30% used and did not need to be replaced. They did a power steering fluid flush ($160) but didn't tell her in advance. We were shocked at the $200/hr labor rate! When my mom left her brakes are making noise again half hour later so she returned today and was told that they couldn't see her because they were busy. She was there for 4 hours yesterday and spent $1500, she should be a priority. When they checked out the car, the sales guy said her rear brakes needed to be replaced. Of course we questioned it because yesterday they said they were fine. They gave us an excuse about the car being old and that now they took a better look at it today. So they didn't take a good look at the stuff they did fix yesterday??? She's going somewhere else to get a second opinion. read more

I've replaced four tires here and have never had a bad experience. The most recent replacement was of a tire that I just bought from them two months ago. Unfortunately it wasn't under warranty because of the type of damage (puncture), but they were able to order a new tire for me and have it delivered and installed on the same day. Every staff member I speak with there has been respectful and courteous, and they've given me a good price for each tire I've replaced. I'm happy with them, so I'll keep going to them for tire service. read more

Bought Yokohama tires and had them installed there. I was charged for computer balance $15 per tire. They never did balance the tires. I had to go to another shop to get my new tires balanced . Also they put 40 psi in my tires instead of 65 psi as directed. Assured that the pressure was within a few pounds of 65.... got on the road and about to get on the Parkway... light comes on... TPMS warning 40 psi. No bueno here. Go elsewhere. read more

Crooks. I bought a battery 2 weeks ago and had my alternator replaced on Sunday. Battery was not charging, under warranty I'm supposed to get a new one... Steven the manager tells me, you have a new battery now, if you have any problems just come back. Well... As he gave me the key I popped the hood and guess what?!! The same damn battery was sitting there I marked the battery with a couple of unique scratches not to mention it was the same bar code serial number. This is absolutely outrageous and unacceptable. I confronted Steven and all he could say was "I thought "he" had changed it" what kind of crap is this?!! It's no wonder this place has such low ratings of satisfaction. This was place was amazing. I had just moved here from LA. I had just driven my Fiat across country to Bloomfield. I am on my way to a new job and my car fails to start. I walk over to these guys they get me a tow, fix my car (replaced) battery and didn't rip me off. Now it wasn't cheap, but it wasn't nose bleed high. I sure as heck can't put a battery in, so yes I paid for labor. It was worth it. As a person who knows zero about cars and regular gets ripped off this was a pleasant surprise. I now have a new local mechanic. The shop is clean, safe and friendly and they call before they act. I highly recommend them for regular maintenance or an emergency. read more

I showed up for my appointment on time; only to be told that there is a 3 to 4 hour wait and they claimed they don't take appointments. I left and called their customer service number. Their representative (Britney) told me that their policy is to honor the appointments and that they would look into it; but she offered me nothing beyond that. I had taken the day off for that appointment that turned out to be a big waste of my time. I had never gone to Mavis before and I never will again. On another note, the shop looked very disorganized and chaotic; so maybe it was best that I didn't use their service. read more

Went in a couple weeks ago to fix a flat tire. The staff was accommodating so I figured I'd go back for an alignment. Called first thing when they opened at 8am and was told by Gary to come in, a ticket was entered and he said they'd see me right away. Arrived at 8:15am, waited to be seen and finally at 8:45am I was told by Steven that it would be over 2 hours before they could even place me on the list. I was disappointed, so I left. Took my vehicle to the shop to check what sounded like a bad suspension. They replaced the front struts and rear shocks. Almost $1,000 later, the problem remains. I needed four new tires i called the number to the location closest to me. I spoke with Matt who i later discovered is not at the store but a call center where his sole job is to get you into the store so the people there can get you to buy the most expensive tires. I was told by Matt they have tires that last 40,000 miles for $239 for four tires. And they have 60,000 mile tires fir $419. I asked if they had Continental tires for my Jetta and he said yes. I took the tires for$239. Once i arrived i was immediately told by the person at the front desk at the computer that the tires i'm buying were crap they from china and they wouldn't last long. So i asked why didn't matt inform me. The person behind the desk laughed and said because his job is just to get you into the store. So i said fine i'll take the $416 tires. Then i asked if they had Continental tires. They looked at me and said no. Again Mavis lied to me. As i thought about it i decided this isn't a reputable company and i rather go elsewhere to buy my tires elsewhere. Terrible customer service. They care 0 about the customer. The only thing that they care about is how to squeeze more money from your repair. They may claim that they are cheap, but they will find the way to charge you $900 (our bill) for extra stuff and treat you like SH*T. Never again. This my costly customer experience. Last week July 6, 2018 at the Mavis Discount Tire store located on Bloomfield Avenue in Bloomfield, NJ. I went in to have a flat tire fixed and due to them installing the wrong tires it broke the rear differential on my Nissan ROGUE!!! I ended up spending over $2,500 in repairs! It turns out that on the ROGUE and other SUV's when you change the tires you need to change all of them or at lease put the correct size on the car. Buyer Beware! read more

Sadly I will never return. I came to fix my front brakes after it started screeching. The process was to take 2 hours. I get here at 11 am. My car is Propped up at 12:15 pm. When they checked my car they told me I needed suspensions, caliper and the front brakes. Cost over $1000. I told them I was only interested i getting the brakes done which they estimated was going to be $309 plus tax. The employee advised that he will Only do the brakes and that it will take 45-60 minutes. I repeated just the brakes and he said Yes. I left and returned an hour later at 1:15 to a vehicle that wasn't ready. After waiting 20 minutes the employee advised me that the cost was $679.99. I said why? He said, they replaced the caliper and the front brakes. I told him I only wanted the brakes. He said he couldn't do the brakes without doing the caliper. I told him he never advised me of this when conversed. All he said was sorry about that. He first tried to argue and I said you can't argue what we both know is not true. They were dishonest. And I honestly feel that gender played a part. I don't think they would do this to a man. This is a vehicle that I am reselling as is. In addition I was charged $755 with taxes. This was theft by deceit and it is illegal. I don't really post reviews but this was a horrible experience. I was in a rush and they knew this. I will be filing a dispute along with a grievance with the BBB. I was charged for something I didn't request. I've never paid such an amount for front brakes. Beware! read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! If you want a scary experience go to Mavis. I brought my car in for a simple oil change and overall assessment of the condition of the car, breaks, tires etc. I was told everything is in great condition. I drove the car two days later for the first time since picking it up. While driving on a busy highway I began to smell something that is burning. I became weary. Two minutes later all indicators on my dashboard lit up, the car begins to shake and my brakes gave out. The car finally stopped moving once I put my emergency brakes on. My car shut down on me. My young children were in the vehicle with me. SCARY doesn't begin to explain that experience. I was completely shaken. Luckily, I didn't hit a car nor did a car collide with us. I ushered my children to the side of the road to wait for the tow. It was 20 degrees. It was not safe to remain in the car given where it stopped on the highway. I had the car towed back to Mavis. Once off the tow truck, there was a buddle of oil on the tow bed. The attendants at Mavis showed no concern. They were very matter-of-fact of the situation and didn't display any sense of urgency or understanding to remediate the problem. They did not offer to pay for the tow. I was taken back because this was not the service I received before they messed up. Horrible service! I have only used Mavis services a few times. How can they mess up a simple an oil change? They later told me I need new brakes. How can that be when they checked the car two days prior and I was told everything was fine? Plus my car is making a rattling noise that it never did before. Do not go here! I came in with one (slightly barely audible) squeaky brake. The service was nice and friendly, I left my car, and they called promptly with a diagnosis. All seemed to be going well. They informed me that one of my brakes was at 5% and the rest were completely worn down, all four rotors were warped and the car was unsafe to drive. It was going to cost $700 for the repairs. Knowing only one brake had been squeaky and for not very long, having had my brakes done last year less than 10,000 miles ago, I said no thank you and picked up my car. And I'm glad I did! My dad took all 4 brakes apart and said all of them had at least another 15,000 miles of use on them and my rotors were completely fine!!! He replaced everything anyway with $100 dollars worth of parts and my car is running absolutely fine now. I've used a different Mavis before and they were reliable (albeit more expensive than your neighborhood garage) but this location is just sleezy. Maybe non-females have better luck but I'm certainly never using Mavis again. read more
