This establishment is far below superb . i went there at 10:30 am for a tire change (one tire) and didn't leave until 4 pm . Im not mechanic but i know thats not the amount of time a tire change should take . The person in front's customer service was beyond amazing . Have taken my car to Mavis Discount for several years and have previously been happy with their service. The former store manager was super helpful, seemed very honest and forthright. Things have changed. I went in for a routine oil change. They called me shortly after dropping the car off, informing me that my rear brake rotors were way too worn and needed to be replaced. I said wait a minute, less than a year ago you guys replaced all four of my pads and rotors... He looks it up and confirms that they did (allegedly) replace the rotors. It's been 11 months and 9,000 miles, there should be no issues with the rotors at this point as they can last 30-50k miles. I return to take a look at the rear rotors and they look very rusted and worn. They look like they are the original rotors on the car and were not changed (I regret not inspecting their work last year). Compare them to the front rotors (replaced at the same time) which are not rusted and very smooth. I explain that its been 9,000 miles, which are all highway miles, and they try to explain this away saying this is normal and 'can happen sometimes'. I showed the receipts and rotors are still under warranty. They replace them with new rotors but still charge me $100 in labor. I called corporate on the number they reply with to negative reviews, and haven't gotten a call back from regional management at this point. It seems they charged me for parts and work that they did not perform. Mavis just settled with victims of the Schoharie limo crash, as they scammed the limo company by charging them for brake work they did not actually do. I asked them for the rotors and there is a photo of them attached to this review, they definitely do not look less than a year old. BEWARE of Mavis, and always ask for the old parts when you get car work done. read more

This is my go-to Mavis Tire location. I've always been well taken care of here. And I can't recommend their extended tire warranty enough - it's saved me the cost of three new tires so far! Only four stars just because the shop's kinda rough around the edges (as is the neighborhood it's in) and not exactly a hot first-date site (unless your date is a crack ho or you want to be certain you'll never see that person again)...there's just nothing to recommend the waiting area or anything. The whole operation's pretty scrungy. But you don't go to Mavis Tire for the luxury accommodations; you go to get your tires repaired or replaced. An honest review... The experience I had dealing with this Mavis was unmatched 'and' probably one of the best customer experiences I have ever had, especially considering I didn't even buy tires or get service from them. I'll keep the story short to save you all the pain, but if you wish not to read the story: You won't find a better tire shop experience than this Mavis. STORY: My friend and I were stranded 45 minutes away in upstate New York with a flat tire on a Sunday. We spent *literally* three and a half hours calling up tire shops (within a 50 mile radius) trying to find this specific tire size. We reached out to Richard at Mavis 1.5 hours into our dilemma. He told us they didn't have the tire just like everyone else, but That didn't stop him from helping. He spent the next hour and a half to two hours scrambling trying to find somebody that could help us and called us back multiple times to give an update. While they were very near closing for the day, Richard made his manager aware of our situation so that he could help us the next morning if we hadn't found a solution. I ended up having to resort to using a BMW dealership because they were the only ones that had this specific tire. I was so pleased with the help I received from Richard that I called back the next day to tell the manager, Aaron, how thankful I am. Both Richard and Aaron were very professional, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and gave far more of an effort to help me than I could've imagined. read more

Don't waste your time. This place sucks and is poorly managed. The people who work here are always on a break and don't know what to do. I called prior to arriving to make sure my tires were in stock. Upon arrival I was told it would take 60-90 minutes. My response no problem. I came back. I was told an additional 30-40 minutes. After another hour. I was told they didn't have my tires. I looked in the garage and saw all the people working standing around making jokes and drinking coffee. This place was a total waste of time. For example (NOT HERE) I had a flat tire and luckily I have tire insurance with my Toyota dealer who told me I needed $1,400 break work on a car with 36,000 miles. That kind of nonsense. My fiance went for an inspection. They say 20 minutes. We go out to eat and come back an hour and a half later, expecting it to be done a long time ago. They say 10 more minutes at this point, and that he passed the inspection. So, we sit down and wait. Then 40 minutes go by. Really? JUST BE TRUTHFUL ABOUT THE TIMING, PLEASE. After coming home from vacation flying into the Albany airport I found my car with a flat tire in the long term lot. I changed the tire to a spare and brought it to mavis. The customer service was INCREDIBLE. I was super overwhelmed and stressed and the guys were just so nice and helpful. Turns out the seal was broken where the rim meets the tire so they cleaned and sealed it and didn't even charge me. I was in and out in about 30 minutes. Overall great experience! read more

They gave a good deal on price, but I waited 2 hours to change 4 tires (with an appointment). Then I got 50ft down the road, they forgot to tighten on of the tires. They only did it hand tight! I could see in my mirror that the wheel was wobbly! I turned around they refunded me after a debate. Completely incompetent! I'm a Florida resident on an extended trip to New York. Last Sunday I picked up a huge wood bolt while driving through Albany. Luckily the tire did not deflate so I drove to the nearest tire store which was this Mavis location. The "guy behind the counter" (I apologize for forgetting his name) was both courteous and honest. When I explained that I had a road hazard warranty policy on my tires he explained they would try to repair it if the damage was not too severe or put on the spare if it was since I didn't think the insurance company could be reached on Sunday. He also explained that there would be a significant delay in servicing my vehicle since he had limited staff and there were others before me and he gave me a time when they would get to my car. I then walked over to nearby Washington Park where a big festival was in progress and came back close to the time given me. The car was worked on right on schedule and a few minutes later he told me the tire was not repairable (which was understandable given the size of the bolt) and that the spare had been put on. He also said there was NO CHARGE. I also had an opportunity to observe his interactions with other potential customers and noted that he was direct and honest with all of them. I admit that this doesn't sound like a big deal but I've been in similar situations where tire stores have attempted to take advantage of my getting tire trouble far from home. This was a refreshing change. I also want to point out that this was the first of two very pleasant experiences I had with the Mavis chain concerning this tire as my recently posted review for their Hudson NY store will attest. Mavis deserves a lot of credit for having such caring and honest staff. I salute you!! read more

As others have said....stay the Hell away from here! I wish more people would leave reviews. I waited with about 5 other frustrated customers for over 4 hours when I came in to have a tire changed. First off, there is no organization here. When I arrived one guy took my information, I showed him the tire I needed replaced, he checked to see if it was in stock, and then he took a phone call elsewhere. The tire I needed was discontinued so he ordered me 2 from a warehouse. Fine. But some other guy finishes up my order, BITCHING the whole time about his boss, the guy that just helped me. And tried to sell me the tires the other guy said were discontinued without checking to see if they were in stock. what??? I come back in the next day, hand over my keys and wait and wait and wait. After almost three hours I'm called to the desk, and find out that they didn't rotate the tires like I asked them to, like I was BILLED for. He swears, sighs, and tells me it'll be another hour. Seriously? I sit back down and the lady next to me shakes her head, she'd been there since before noon. Mind you it was after 4:30 at this point. This is on par with my last experience, called to have a tire replaced last summer, dropped my tire off, and it took them 4 days to get a new tire on my damn rim so i could pick it up. Total waste of time. Come here if you want to wait for hell to freeze over, listen to people bitch about their bosses, argue with their coworkers, oh, and double check that they did everything they were supposed to do. The workers here are absolutely wonderful! They were extremely attentive to detail and very welcoming! I came in after having two tires slashed and they were very helpful and thorough in explaining the situation and the steps they were going to take. They took care of the problems as quickly as possible, and ensured I was getting a good deal. I highly recommend this location, and I will be returning here any time I need car maintenance in Albany. A bunch of crooks. I go there for simple thing, but they always claim I have other issues hoping to get additional money. They have tired very hard, and unsuccessful to get me for several hundreds $$$. I have a mechanic for major things that I can really trust. I take back everything they say is wrong to my mechanic to only find out that they were trying to get me. Go there for service if you really know what is wrong with your automobile. If they tell you that you have other issues I highly suggest you take your auto somewhere else. This time I went in for tires and a muffler check. They installed the muffler. This time they tried to get me for the pipe. Took it to my mechanic, and he said I am okay and I Do Not Need Anything New. This was an awful experience. The manager is abrasive and doesn't understand customer service or what a price match guarantee entails. I got a quote from corporate for which he told me "he wouldn't lose money on the sale". They told him he had to match, I returned to the store an hr after my apt. I absolutely do not recommend this location. I made an appt for four-tire replacement, oil change, and inspection, one-hour time they quoted. Simple right? Then they tried to sell me various services I did not need: breaks, rotors, & pads after 45 minutes of waiting and thankfully due to time, I canceled the rotor they claimed were a must and the oil change and inspection. Mavis did not complete the work scheduled and after a second opinion, I do NOT need breaks, rotors, & pads. Ironically, they never mentioned an appointment to retorqued the four tires I did purchase, I thought tires what they were known for? I never give reviews because I do not have time, I made time for this one. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. I took my car here last May for a tire and a plug. I bought a new tire, had one tire plugged and I was told I needed a new sensor. Before I left, my tpms light was still on. I was told to drive the car it would go off. That weekend, I went to Queensbury for a wedding. Came out and the tire that was plugged was flat. I called them and they told me to go to the near buy Mavis they told me that it was a bad patch job. Six months later I went to another shop to by 4 new tires. They found the tpms broken and super glued in side of my tire. They had charged me for a sensor and did a cop job. I contacted them right away, the gave me a sensor. The sensor they gave me was not built for my car, it was an after market universal. I bought the right one and requested a refund. Tom the store manager refuse to take responsibility and was rude. Nevertheless, I got my refund but I will never go to another Mavis again. They are crooks and they just want to make money off of their customers backs. read more

I just called to get a quote from "Tom" in service. Rude! Horrible customer service I was shocked. This is exactly how the conversation went- I called to get a quote on how much it would be to remove my rotor and put a new one on. Just one rotor and I already have the part. He quoted me at $50 (which didn't even sound like it was actually a listed price just something he made up really quick) saying they would have to take the whole thing apart. I said "okay I did just call a different mavis and they quoted me at ..." didn't even let me finish my sentence. He said "ok so go to that mavis" I said "well you're closer to me so that's why I was calling you and they quoted me at $25 so I was just seeing if you do sa.." (same pricing) and he interrupted me again! Like wow.. it would have been nice to speak without being interrupted so I could actually explain my situation. Every time he thought he knew what I was going to say and didn't let me finish. Some people really need to take a step back and breathe for a second. If you don't like your job Tom then don't work there! It's just sad to see how some people treat others.. especially someone who is bringing business to your workplace. Have taken all of my cars here for several yrs. Mostly tires but occasional break job, battery, etc. Prices are good compared to competitors...and everything is negotiable. Everything they do is as expected and discussed. If not; they call and ask what you want to do. Very timely and always seem to be able to fit you in same day or next which is nice.
