I was lucky to get a last minute appointment this past Saturday with Anna. Upon arrival, I had a…read morevery comfortable feeling. The salon had a clean, boho vibe and I love the color scheme. It's the same as my house! Anna was finishing up a haircut on a young man. I tried to be inconspicuous, but I watched and listened carefully to her asking him his thoughts. She stopped and allowed him to check every section. That impressed me because you get a little nervous meeting a hairstylist for the first time. Next, it was on to me. I was contemplating for months letting my gray roots grow out to (becoming grayage) the point where I was literally depressed. I didn't like it at all because I really wasn't ready for "that look". So Anna sat me down and we chatted about my current blonde shade, my darker tones underneath and what I envisioned looking like at the end of my appointment. She meticulously checked my (previous) cut and fixed a few disconnected sections. She suggested that my roots be the same color as my darker tone and then would add a few low lights to break up the blonde for some dimension. We chatted throughout the entire appointment and unbeknownst to us, we have so many connections- as if something in the (h)air brought us together. Her blowout was literally the best one I've ever had. Well, feeling beautiful is an understatement!! She did exactly what I wanted, and I walked out feeling more confident than I ever have leaving a salon. She is a beautiful, young, talented, new stylist, but her heart, soul and expertise makes you think she's been doing hair professionally for years!! I can't say enough excellent things about my experience at Essence. After two long years without a…read morehaircut (thanks, pandemic) I was searching for a new place and a chance to cut off my hair again. Liz took all of my requests into consideration and gave me an absolutely wonderful haircut (not an easy thing to do considering how thick my hair is and how long it had grown.) More than that, she was incredibly kind and made me feel well taken care of throughout my appointment. All of the staff that I interacted with were warm and professional. Everyone was also very careful and aware of COVID protocols, which to me was an added bonus. The only negative for me going in was the cost (a bit pricier than what I can afford since I'm still in school) but honestly... I really think it was completely worth it. I haven't had my hair this short in over 20 years and I am blown away with how wonderful the cut is. I was recommended by a good friend to come here and see Jill. You have to come see Jill too. So nice, super personable and clearly is great at her job. I mean, check out the before/after pic I've attached, but I came in here with rather long hair, very visible roots, decently dark brown hair that flows towards a mish mosh of bleached blonde and faded pink on the ends. The ends were so dead and splitting that it was starting to get difficult just simply brushing my hair. It got to the point that I just would put my hair up every day because it took either too long to tame or just always got in the way. I was in the mood for a drastic haircut, so all in all, I think we cut like a solid 6 inches off (more in some layered spots) and colored it all one color. I was in and out of the salon in the perfect length of time. Jill went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable at all times (as in, what we were doing to my hair along with if I needed anything during the process). You know when you sometimes go somewhere to get your hair colored and you leave the place with a harsh amount of product still staining on your hair line, ears, etc? Well, Jill made sure that before I exited, there wasn't a drop anywhere but on my hair. I was absolutely be back, and honestly, in the future, Jill is the only one who can touch my hair.
