This review is based solely on my experience voting here. This was my first time voting at the Maverick Library. In my previous years, the Cody Library was my usual spot, but since this one is close to where I live, I went here. It took less time to vote than it took to drive here! The whole experience was fast, easy, and free of stress. The folks helping us get settled were also polite and friendly, and they didn't make us feel rushed. I came here to use the study rooms. I had heard one of my homeschooling friends liked this the most for bringing her kids to use the computers for their online curriculum. The individual study rooms are in a corner, and the air conditioning does not work well. I left the door open because there was no circulation. A homeless woman came in and closed the door for "privacy" ( you walk through that room to get to where I was with a single study desk). I had to leave. Bust for finding a place to work. Hope they get the A/C fixed. read more

Computers are exceptionally slow...I mean really slow. Need to improve internet speed. Also need to update library hours online on days you are closed or observing a holiday. I along with numerous other patrons made wasted trips to the library because the website online said that it was open when in fact they were closed. read more

This is a wonderful, semi-new library with plentiful seating. This library is quite large compared to the others. It's also pretty quiet except for the sounds from the metal ceiling. On windy days, the wind makes the ceiling quite noisy. There's also a private study room to the right (as you walk in) that is available for quiet study time. Not sure if one would need to make a reservation. As for places to study, there are desks with side visors and plenty of tables if you like to spread out your study material. read more

This is the closest library to my house and I have always had a pleasant experience with the staff. Each person I have interacted with has been pleasant and helpful. They recently reopened to the public and are conducting temperature checks and requiring masks for browsing. The library has a wide selection of well organized books. I like that you can request books to be put on hold for you through the app. They send you emails when books you have requested are available and as a reminder when books are due. read more

I'm so glad I checked out this library! The lighting is really nice and I could definitely see myself studying here. I went to see if they had a few newer books that I didn't really want to pay $16 for at a bookstore, and they had all of them! They will be seeing a lot of me, I'm sure. P.S.- I also thought it was cool that they had some books wrapped in gift wrap with a short description on the front. You could grab one and surprise yourself! Maybe try a book you would normally pass by. read more

Been coming here for years. And right now due to Covid they are allowing you to request books then when they are ready you come to the library call a # thats provide and they take the books to a table in the front of the building so you can pickup. So in other word contactless!! read more

Toward the beginning of the year I had a vague goal - a New Years Resolution, if you will - to be smarter, more conservative, with my money. *Hopefully* while having as little "withdrawal" impact on my lifestyle as possible. Good goal, right?? I've never been able to easily resist that tantalizing paper-and-ink scent of Barnes & Noble. I still mourn the loss of Borders. There's just something *magical* about books. Soooo.... Step 1: Go to my favorite B&N and buy a Dave Ramsey system (and probably a couple other can't-live-without novels as well. Might as well make the most of a the drive over there, amirite??) NO!!! No no no no no no NO.... WRONG. Why spend money at all when the overall goal is to SAVE money?? Duh, Brenda! I pay taxes. I vote. (Actually... I usually vote AT THIS LIBRARY lol) - I'm gonna leverage all the glorious amenities that the city of SA is providing to me and BORROW my books...woo!! save allllllllll zee monies!! So far, it's working out brilliantly :) If I estimate about a book or so per week purchased - my usual - I would have spent $180ish so far this year. By using only library ((well... 99.5%, if I'm being completely honest here, library - there *was* that one time my toes dragged off the wagon and I bought a paperback at Costco. But it had hockey on the cover! And ended up being a *great* read! (Bear Town, by Fredrik Backman, FYI) )) my tally is a mere $3 in late fee (plus $10 or whatever for the one book.) Now THAT is economising in action, y'all!! And impact on my life?? I'm not missing out on *anything* by borrowing as opposed to buying - in fact, I'm able to read MORE and it's a *positive* impact... YASSSSS!! -SAPL system has a fantastic site (mysapl.org) where you can browse availability, and place a "hold" on volumes to be picked up at the branch of your choice. (There's an app too, but it needs some tweaking before it becomes as user-friendly as the www) -While the staffers I've interacted with have been wonderful and friendly, I *love* that I can have an entirely solo visit to the library if I so choose - go grab my books of the "hold" shelves and use the self-checkout , so I'm in and out without having to speak to another person at all unless *I* want to. So cool when you just want to put your face in a book and not talk!! -You can borrow e-books to your Kindle or other device, so no waiting in queue for a paper copy if you'd rather not. -Great hours!! Branches open 6-7 days per week, usually late into the evening. WAY more convenient than what I remember as a kid. -This branch is directly across the street for Nani Falcone dog park, which I frequent anyway. SO easy to swing by the drive-up book return collection bins while I'm in the neighborhood. What a wonderful addition to our city! read more

I just moved to the area and needed some printing done, Maverick library offered me free printing services and were very helpful. it had such a quiet atmosphere and was very relaxing. I highly recommend this place. read more

Built in the upper NW area of town which lacked a library, it is complemented nicely by the new fire station, Nani Falcone Park and skate park. The design is modern and lets in quite a bit of light. The metal roof gets loud when its windy and the study room is freezing but otherwise I have no complaints. read more

Very warm in here can't even focus I had to leave cuz it was soo warm they need to turn up the AC. The study rooms aren't sound proof so I couldn't focus as the girl in the other room was on the phone loudly . Would love if they put signs up to keep quiet in there.... It just defeats the purpose. And I personally don't like the round small tables :/ I would prefer square tables so I can fit all my books and computer right in front of me . read more

I've always loved this library but it's been years since I lived close by and have attended. After reopening my account I found some fines I needed looked at. I spoke to the branch manager Jeff and he was honestly just the greatest! So helpful and respectful. Excited to start using my card again. Thanks Jeff! read more

Great Library nestled off busy Bandera Rd. opposite Falcone Park. It sports a large selection of books and graphic novels as well as a friendly and helpful staff make this one of my go-to libraries along with Cody and Igo. The restrooms are always clean and it is one of the largest locations. Families frequent these Northside libraries as they should but Ive never noticed a pattern of noisy children as one reviewer stated. Its actually quieter then Igo which also has a large familial presence though both are fantastic nonetheless. Great Branch! read more

San Antonio has some fabulous local libraries. The money spent on these places must have been a small fortune. The Maverick Library is no exception. The exterior somewhat belies its cavernous interior. I'm not suggesting it's Jerry World, but I was impressed but the vast interior expanses. Additionally, this library gives off a very inviting feel with the subdued lighting, and well air conditioned environment. The only reason I'm not giving this library 5 stars is because of the rather "I can't be bothered because you're kind of a dumb___ for asking this question" attitude of the squat middle-aged librarian. Here's a free tip if she happens to ever read this - if someone asks you where to find a particular item/section, please, use your words, don't just escort us over there and roll your eyes as you show us the signage that is half falling off the ledge as you walk away. read more

My personal favorite library. Very clean and homey. Friendly staff. It's pretty cold in there. There's a big window and if you look out of it, you get a nice view of the sky and the road. I once sat there and looked up and really took note of the beautiful scenery and watching the cars pass by. Life's good! read more

I like the library. It's small and quiet but it's got tons of kids books and a good selection of children's educational DVDs. I didn't venture to the adult side of the library. Getting a library card was easy. 50books at a time as a limit, holy moly! Nice big parking lot too. read more

This library is great and definitely by go-to choice when I need to go the library. I haven't been here in years. Although, I did spend a lot of my years in high school here using the computers or taking advantage of the free wi-fi. It hasn't changed in the past few years and is exactly how I remember it. The kids section is great and extremely organized. There's a kids computer section which is handy for the little ones. The staff is always friendly. They are really strict about not bringing any food and drinks in, so don't try and sneak any in! ;) Overall, a nice library and there's a park right next door which is great if you have kids! read more

I was looking for a quiet place to do some reading and writing and I thought I'd go to the nearby branch of the public library. I was appalled at the level of noise people talking children running around. I asked one of the people working there if it was always this noisy and was flippantly told "Welcome to the 21st century library." After making some phone calls I discovered that apparently the library is basically a day care and that they no longer ask people to be quiet. I'm all for children reading I think it's a great thing. However children also need to be taught how to behave. The public library should be useful to everyone. Not just to people who have children or want free internet access. When you go to the library you should be able to at least expect a reasonable amount of peace and quiet and not a playground. read more

This is a great library and it has a awesome book collection and staff is very helpful.

The staff here are very friendly, and easy going. It a great place for kids, but also has many study areas and even a study room for those who want some quiet space. There are many programs for children held year around, story times and puppet shows. In addition to books, you can also check out music CDs, an the latest movies, though be sure to turn them in on time to avoid a fine. All around, this is a great library. read more
