In my previous years, the Cody Library was my usual spot, but since this one is close to where I live, I went here. It took less time to vote than it took to drive here! The whole experience was fast, easy, and free of stress. The folks helping us get settled were also polite and friendly, and they didn't make us feel rushed. This library serves the UT Health community. It is named for Dolph Briscoe who was the right man at the right time when he served as Governor. Philanthropic and civic minded, he was a rich man who lived modestly, eschewing blind pursuit of material wealth.

I make a trip here at least 4 times a week so i guess i can call myself a regular. First impression- the seating choices are ridiculous! Whether your prefer a cushioned booth by the wide windows, a booth in dim fluorescent lighting, a rolly chair in a cubical, a rolly chair in a soundproof room, or even simply a soft, vinyl sofa... This is your place! The noise level is typically minimal. Sounds you might hear include chewing, whispers, and frantic clicking. Beware, if you are impartial to detailed drawings of the perineal region or photos of pus-leaking skin lesions, you may see more than you bargained for on the screens and books of the students studying here. The only downside is that it gets kinda boring the longer you stay.

Advisors, faculty, and departments often provide little to no guidance, leaving students to navigate important academic decisions on their own. If your child thrives on clear direction, regular check‑ins, or structured support, this may be a difficult environment. Parents are kept almost completely out of the loop, making it hard to understand what your student needs or what's happening academically. Before committing, make sure your student is prepared to advocate for themselves and operate independently--because consistent communication and mentorship are not guaranteed.

It is located in a strip mall off Fredericksburg, and it won't be found unless ones looking for it, which I was. It is not a very big place, but it does have a lot of knickknacks, including an impressive collection of stickers, bookmarks, and vinyl records, to name a few. It actually is a pretty neat place. The books are used and for the most part they're very reasonably priced. They do not have an inventory of the books, so you do have to look through shelves, if looking for a particular title. And their staff is only one person at the cashier. Which is to say that you can browse to your heart's content, and discover some major reads. They also had quite a few boxes of books that were under one dollar or $.50. This is one of those places that I intend to return to, because of pricing and to support small businesses. I truly recommend visiting this place. It makes for a fun visit.

They even call their math class "Statistics" when you take it and then it's College Math on transcripts and doesnt count for anything. Medical Center! This sprawling campus on the northwest side…read moreof town has hundreds and hundreds of medical centers, research facilities, hospitals, specialist clinics- you name it, they have it. The Mays Cancer Center is just about to open, and they've announced that a huge, huge research facility is about to break ground. There's walking paths throughout the campus, places to eat on the periphery, and even public works of art throughout the beautifully landscaped campus. My big complaint around here is parking. Why do they gotta charge for parking? Do you think anyone comes to the Medical Center to hang out and lounge around? Charging people to park their car while at the hospital or doctor's office sure seems immoral. Also, if this is a college campus, why don't they have a football team, or even a mascot!? Gah! A few years back, UTHSC had the opportunity to merge with UTSA, and for whatever reason, they passed up on this, which I think is a big mistake.
