This public library is much smaller than other branches around the city, but the true gem is their newly renovated kids section. The kids area has a huge selection of books, as well as board games for the kids, computers and other toys for them to play with. There are also plenty of couches around the kids area, which makes it perfect for parents to take a break while the kids explore the library. Since this is a smaller library their book selection is not as complete as others, but regardless it is a great option if you live in this area. Besides the kid section, there's also a teenager area on the opposite side of the library and private rooms you can use for coworking sessions. Overall, a great experience and will definitely be coming back to check out one of their free classes.

There's a large children's reading area that looks inviting to little ones, with comfortable seating and plenty of picture books. They have a few meeting rooms and lots of free publications to take home with you. It's not an especially attractive library. No parks to play in next door. No public works of art. No impressive architecture. No ancient manuscripts or catacombs. It's pretty boring as far as libraries go. This library lacks an outdoor drop-off box... Grrr...

If I could give this review zero stars I would!…read more Absolutely Ridiculous - This Is NOT a Library, It's a Playground. If you're looking for a quiet space to actually study, do homework, or get any serious work done--do NOT come to the Molly Pruitt Library. Kids were literally running around like it's recess. Loud talking, playing, laughing like they were at a playground--and not once did I see any of the librarians at the front desk say a word. Just sitting there, completely ignoring the chaos. No structure, no control, no respect for people trying to focus. So I move from the main area to a study room, thinking maybe I can get some peace. These rooms clearly have a sign that says NO CELL PHONES, headphones only, and to keep noise down. Yet two rooms down from me, some guy is on his phone, talking loud like he's in his own living room. Again--no one from staff stepped in. No enforcement, no care. This is supposed to be a public learning environment, not a damn hangout spot. The rules are posted but clearly mean nothing here. Don't call yourself a library if you're not going to create an atmosphere where people can read, study, or think. Absolutely disappointing. Management needs to be made aware. If posted policies aren't going to be enforced, then remove the signs and call it what it is--a public lounge. But don't mislead people looking for a serious, quiet place to work or study.

The Cortez branch didn't have it so I went through the inter-library system to have it sent in. I didn't realize the system defaults to a delivery date of February 2025! Their online reps couldn't figure out how to modify or cancel my reservation. They told me to reserve another with a more respectable date and call the next day and speak with someone to cancel the February reservation. The lady who answered the phone was very nice and tried to help, but she couldn't figure it out either. After 45 minutes and transferring me to someone else who couldn't figure it out, I was told they'd reach someone named Anna and then they'd call me back. While I'm happy with the pleasant demeanor from the staff, they didn't follow up with me. Instead, they canceled both of my reservations without warning. If they didn't have the book (despite it being available to reservation), best practice would have been to just call and explain that. They turned a decent situation into a bad one pretty quickly and it could have been avoided.

The staff is super friendly and really enthusiastic about the library themselves! So the library has many features to visit. But the actual library itself basically works two ways. Once you receive you library card and password you can on your own devices download the 3M cloud Library App. The app by the way was accessible from my Kindle, laptop and phone. Once downloaded you sign in with you library card number and can download/check in books from there. You can easily download books from anywhere this way and there is a vast selection to choose from. They do only allow you to check in five books at a time and it's at a two week period. There is a waiting time on most of the best sellers. But again there are plenty of books to choose from cook books to the classics. If you don't have any devices yourself don't fret. They are lending out e readers for the adults and nooks for the children. These are at limited supply but such a wonderful opportunity for people without access or lacking in their technology expertise.

First, you have the sweet staff who complimented my daughter's odd Austin-y name, second there are the rows of iMacs for reading on site or the checking out of e-readers for the adults. Next, we head into the children's room where there are 4 iPads and 3 interactive LARGE tablets where kids can play games and do a lot of hands-on leaning. Story time for toddlers is on Sundays at 2, although I hope they have a remedy to reading off the iPad for a larger group of kids. Also, the iPads were just that iPads...no software installed yet, no free books, etc. I see a lot of possibility with these iPads and I hope they are used to their full potential. You ready for negative nancy? I wish people were quiet in this library. Yes, it still is a library but there was a dad ON HIS CELL PHONE the entire time in the kids section. Maybe my ADD mind couldn't shake the disruption and you won't have a problem, but I really wish the staff would have asked him to step outside or get off the phone to discover the room WITH his kid. The funny part is, I used Apple Maps to get here (and didn't get lost. Hey-o!). But that's not the funny part. As soon as I turned the corner to see the BiblioTech building I saw a bunch of cops cars instead. Driving a bit further I discovered that the BiblioTech is in the same building as precinct headquarters. Way to reinforce the security and send a silent message about the south side.
