The Dolph Briscoe, Jr. Library is part of the UT Health Science Center is open 7 days a week. Although primarily used by Health Science Center students, this library can serve as a quiet study spot for those who are not affiliated with the institution.
Food/Beverages: The library allows you to bring food and drinks - just make sure to clean up after yourself and not make a mess. You can bring in hot foods, cold foods, etc. There's a Starbucks and a Subway just down the hall from the library, so during the day, you can grab food and any needed caffeine. Also, for those of you who like to bring your own tea, there's an electronic kettle in the open area near the entrance.
Ambiance: Quiet - since the library is situated on the Health Science Center campus, there are a lot of students who utilize the space to study. So, if you're looking for a quiet place, this is the spot. There are three floors (and a basement level) that have private study rooms, group study rooms, cubicles, and open tables. On the first level, there is a an open area near the entrance where you can have a bit more relaxed study space and talk quietly with friends. There are outlets galore, and plenty of space. When it's final exam time, the library can be a pretty packed place... and, during those times, the wi-fi slows down, and the bathrooms get a little crazy (primarily Sunday nights of exam week).
Wi-Fi: If you're a guest, you can request an username and password for 24hrs
Service: The librarians are super helpful and nice.
Pricing: Free to enter. If you want to print, there is a 0.10 cent fee for B&W copies and another fee for color copies. Also, if you are not affiliated with the school, you have to pay for guest parking. Parking in all lots after 6 PM is free.
Hours: Open until midnight Sun - Thurs, and until 10 PM on Fri and Sat.
Like doing puzzles? There's often a big puzzle that is done on one of the tables near the entrance, so, when you're looking for a study break, here's a perfect option. read more
