Don't come thinking you can take up space with books and study material. Not enough tables for that. This is more of a contemporary library for recreational reading, families and kids. They have what you need, but not enough areas to actually study. The internet is fast, facility is clean and the staff is nice.

The Mission Branch Library is an Architectural beauty, and offers many programs for all age groups, including Summer, and Reading programs for children by UTSA. A playground also part of the Library is located next to a beautiful plaza also part of the Library compound. Other associated buildings are an outdoor movie screen theater, a Historical landmark, and the new Harvey Najim Family YMCA that compliments the Library architecturally. This Mission Community Center is located next to the Mission San José World Heritage site, and a block from the San Antonio River. A strong community effort to bring the Library was the impetus that helped create the existing community center concept that has expanded the Library program opportunities, and make it dynamic for all.

This is an absolutely beautiful library with tons of free classes varying from table tennis to parenting classes. They have a fairly large selection of items and the staff is very friendly and helpful. This is an ideal library for families and has a park directly behind it and a gorgeous theater with free events right beside it. I would strongly encourage you to check this branch out even if you don't live on this side of town. I drove 33 minutes to get here and can honestly say it was well worth the trip.

Beautiful collection of International Barbies on display right now for the month of March

Not good for studying. People bring kids as if it were daycare and others don't attempt to keep voices down and employees don't seem to care

The San Antonio Central Library is such an iconic staple to the San Antonio community and I think…read moreeveryone should visit this amazing library at least once a year! This amazing library is located in the heart of downtown and was built by renowned Mexican architect, Ricardo Legorreta. The building is absolutely stunning and has actually been featured in Hollywood movies. If you love art as much as I do you'll be happy to hear that they have a Chihuly inside the library, as well as other pieces of art by very popular artists. The San Antonio Central Library is so much more than a local library. Within the building, you can find other nonprofits that help support small businesses in our community, as well as numerous events they host almost daily. One of my favorite parts about the SA Central Library is their second-hand bookstore located in the basement. You can find some true gems in there, and all the money raised from sales goes back to the library. If you have children I highly recommend exploring their kids' section. My kid loves to play in that area and the staff there is always amazing! Last but not least, the library has its own parking lot and you can get up to three hours of free parking when visiting. You just have to validate your ticket at one of the kiosks located by the entrance.

I got there right when they opened and there were a lot of unhoused people outside, which caught me a little off guard at first. But once I got inside, it felt like a completely different space. What I didn't expect was the art. They have a gallery area with rotating exhibits, and the pieces they had up when I went were actually really nice. It didn't feel like a typical library moment at all. I also wandered upstairs and there's this big blown glass sculpture that's hard to miss. Super pretty and kind of unexpected. I didn't check out any books or anything, so I can't speak to that side of it, but if you're nearby, it's worth popping in just to walk around for a bit.

They have a lot of cool things here I don't typically see in other libraries. They have desks to work, normal, and some with foot pedals which I thought was really neat! It's connected also to a lovely trail. Very nice. I like it here! They even have a cool kids area and room for a puppet show! Is that cool or what!?!? Super great. They have lots of little cool features and I'd recommend it.

Their schedule is online and while they don't have as many story time events as I would like, they are quite popular and well done. Arrive a few minutes early to get a ticket for entry. The library itself is clean and welcoming with kids art and games around. The child area has small seating and dedicated computers for appropriate games. I like that the board books are in an elevated bin to easily sort through. Staff at the checkout/info desk were kind and helpful, too. Bonus points for having a playground a few steps away too. I also got my mom signed up for a library card for the first time in decades and it was a quick and easy process.
