Maureen has been seeing my teen a few times. She knows what she's doing ! My kid looks happier and lighter after every visit.

Yelp Review for Caree Brown…read more I have had the privilege of working with Caree for several years, and I am incredibly grateful for the impact she has had on my life. Caree has a warm, calm, and nurturing presence that makes it easy to feel comfortable and understood. She listens without judgment, asks thoughtful questions, and has a wonderful ability to help me see things from a different perspective. Through our work together, I have gained a much better understanding of myself and have learned to trust my own voice. Caree has helped me become more confident, more self-aware, and better able to recognize and honor what I need. What I appreciate most is that she doesn't simply tell me what I want to hear. She gently challenges me when I need to look at something differently, while always making me feel supported and respected. I am very grateful for the growth and perspective I have gained through working with Caree. I truly feel that therapy with her has been a life-changing experience, and I feel very fortunate to have found her. I would wholeheartedly recommend her.

I could not overstate the impact Caree has had on me and my family. While counseling support/advice…read moreis highly personal, I can attest that Caree's philosophy and approach is straightforward, simple in nature and therefore easy to apply. Listening to excellent advice is great, but actually implementing change is transformative. Caree provides easy to understand tools, that apply to real life and can be used anytime and anywhere. Her approach is underwritten by a sincere desire to listen, and allow the individual to fully express themselves before opining on what is to be done. No psychological-speak, Caree makes you comfortable because she is relatable and kind in her approach. Her office is warm and inviting - a place you're always happy to go back to. I highly recommend Caree to anyone and everyone.

Best therapist I've ever had, and I've seen 9 or 10 during my life. I'm not usually impressed by…read moretherapists but with Dave my mind is blown over and over again and again. Our sessions have led to some positive change, one being I'm much more capable of expressing emotion to others in my life without joking, blowing my top or fearing vulnerability as much. We've also improved some of my automatic defenses, improving my capacity to handle short term pain in exchange for long term pleasure, self-acceptance, self discovery, my ability to be my authentic self, my ability to walk through painful emotion "the only way around is through", and identified all-or-nothing patterns in my treatment of self or others. We've begun identifying and fixing damage and abandonment issues caused by my narcissistic, engulfing mother. Here's a text I just got from David (a few minutes after I sent mine out) regarding issues about either avoiding conflict or blowing my fuse during conflict. "Regarding communication in relationships, what works best according to theory is saying whatever comes to mind- anything and everything. Why? Because that way doesn't lead to the buildup of resentment. Conflict doesn't lead to the end of relationships, resentment does. Conflict leads to intimacy. It prevents the backup and backlog of resentment. Resentment leads to impulsivity and destruction. We've got to feel our feelings, or they get acted-out. With the discovery of mirror neurons, our emotions frequently need to be expressed, to be seen-mirrored. From another angle, we self-activate when we take action despite the abandonment anxiety. "If I express how I feel, I might be abandoned and then feel abandonment depression. I had better keep my mouth shut". But if we take a healthy emotional risk and express ourselves, self-activate and go through the abandonment anxiety, risk the abandonment depression, we are more likely to feel better for having expressed ourselves-regardless of the outcome. We feel less need for defenses to self-soothe in a maladaptive way. We feel emboldened to continue to self-activate, to express ourselves. We feel a greater sense of agency to get our needs met, knowing that we will make mistakes, but also knowing that we can make amends, if need be. We start to feel better. Hope this helps, Dave Borof"

Dave has helped our teenage son immeasurably with his anxiety, depression and addiction problems…read more We found him thorough, reassuring, patient, warm and very insightful - and more importantly, our son does too. But Dave is not all about just saying things to make you feel better; he'll help you change your thinking and your life as he really knows how to be direct, specific and firm in his go-forward counsel. His phone number is 510-701-0427. Our family had the good fortune to first work with Dave when our son was attending Thunder Road Adolescent Treatment program, and Dave was our son's primary counselor. We were impressed immediately not only with how quickly Dave comprehended our son's history and assessed his current status, but also with how he was able to zero in very quickly on what our son needed to do to help himself. Our son continues to see Dave as a private therapist when he needs help navigating through life's big passages. We can't say enough good things about Dave, his kindness and his expertise.
