Let me start by saying, I liked Gerri very much, enough that I went back to her a couple of times, even after the sessions didn't help me. And I've had great success with hypnotherapy before and since. I am a big fan of it, as it usually works quite well for me.
I went to Gerri on 3 or 4 different occasions for 2 separate issues, several years ago. I had seen her on a TV commercial years earlier and remembered her, and that's what made me choose her. I'm just now writing this review because I was researching someone else and saw Bay Healing here on Yelp.
I figured it was worth letting others know that she doesn't work well for everyone. Sadly, I did not get a good result, or should I say any result at all (other than a lighter bank account). It just didn't work for me, despite my desire for it to. I've done hypnosis on lots on occasions, and maybe I've just been lucky with who I've used. Any other time I've done it, it's been amazing and works like magic.
Gerri's method was pretty simple. We chatted very briefly, and then she turned on her recorder and started the session. When she brought me out of the trance, I had no recollection at all. She handed me my recording and sent me on my way - no discussion, no checking back in afterward, no follow up, etc.
I know I fell asleep a couple of times (I heard myself snore on the recording and she tried to wake me up). I asked other hypnotherapists if that was ok, and they were all very careful and considerate about how they answered. Essentially they said, no if you go to sleep, you are too deep, your brainwaves go to delta (or something like that) and it doesn't work. They said the hypnotist should be paying attention to keep you from falling asleep. The one I use now keeps me engaged and participating. It's pretty cool.
Anyway, I was a little pissed off about that (the falling asleep and her lack of follow up, or caring enough to ask me to keep her posted).
I had to buy a minimum package of 5 or 6 sessions from her - it was pricey. I listened to the recordings and they weren't like other hypnosis sessions I've done. But, again, I think I've been lucky to get really good hypnotists (especially one super educated one in WC - won't be tacky by mentioning her business's name). The best hypnosis I've had has had me engaged in the process, where I'm interacting with the hypnotherapist.
Like I said, Gerri's really nice and her method is pretty straightforward and simple. I wanted so much to have a great experience with her. But when I listened to the recoding later, it sounded like she might have been reading it from a script. That's ok if it works for you. And she obviously worked for lots of people, cuz she has tons of good reviews on here. She just didn't work for me, for some reason.
I ended up not even going back to her for the rest of the sessions I'd paid for up front. She obviously didn't notice, cuz I never heard from her about it - that bugged me a little too.
The woman I now use in Walnut Creek (goes by a business name) always makes me feel like she gives a crap about me and my success. And she educates me about all kinds of stuff about the brain, and neurology, etc. I guess I'm comparing Gerri to the Rolls Royce version of hypnotherapy (RR hypnotist in WC is a little cheaper by the way).
Sorry Gerri. You're a nice lady. I wish it had worked out better. Glad you've been able to help so many others. read more
