Willie took us to a couple away areas where, I think, he was assessing our hiking skills. From there he provided suggestions which he, successfully assessed, we could accomplish. Willie consistently provided the history and explanations of the area as we toured. Explorer areas: Willie brought us to a variety of locations. He is respectful of the island and the culture. I started looking on Yelp in hopes it would help me narrow down the best of the best and that it absolutely did. I saw the raves about Willie and knew it was going to be worth every penny. Willie called me to talk about what we wanted to get out of our trip, and he also checked back in the day before to reiterate details about where to meet, etc. We told him we really wanted to see beautiful waterfalls and some cool secret, less touristy spots. We began our drive and Willie pulled off on this little beach, and said he wanted to show us something. We walked down, and there were sea turtles all over the beach which just made my MIL's day right off the bat. Then we went to the most delicious breakfast spot I have ever been to, hands down. All along the way, he told us about the areas we were driving through, the weather there, and gave us cool little tidbits of information. We went to the Garden of Eden where to my surprise, I got ENGAGED! Willie was so sweet and so happy for us, hugs all around. He truly made that moment, and the whole day really feel like we were with a friend we'd known forever. We went to the most amazing, secret waterfall and got to swim in the swimming hole and jump off rocks with no one else around! This was the absolute most beautiful spot I've ever been in my life and we never would've found it on our own or without Willie. Anyways, we did so much and there are so many details I could share but I would write a book if I shared the entire 11 hour day with you! I won't ruin all the surprises for you, but all I can say is I will never do another tour on Maui without him. Don't hesitate to book, just do it and don't go with any other company. Not only did we get to ride in comfort with all our stuff, but we also customized every stop. We could easily say "yes" or "no" to any stop on the Road to Hana. Our tour guide Chris was excellent, informative, and fun to hang out with for the entire day. Chris had great recommendations for us and the food stops were amazing and delicious and tailored to what we were feeling or not feeling. We had a general idea of the stops we wanted to hit based on our research, but Chris went above and beyond to show us unique stops and views and scenic views. We made great memories and got to experience the road to Hana in a way that far exceeded our expectations. All though it was not the most affordable way to experience the road to Hana, we still felt it was worth the cost. It will be a great memory for us for years to come. I can now say I swam in a waterfall....a very cold one, but definitely worth it. Chris knows these roads and all the stops you might want to see, and he customized it to our level of adventure, including hikes and swims along the way. You can definitely find cheaper alternatives, but I would suggest speaking with Awapuhi Adventures to see if they can meet your needs. The pros of going private is that you are in the drivers seat (figuratively) for where and when to stop, and can skip anything that seems generic or not to your liking. It was the best idea we've had. The road to Hana Drive it's fairly treacherous especially on the day that we went in there was quite a bit of rain. Tommy is a great guy what kept us all safe, entertained, and just gave us a great day for us to just sit back relax and enjoy the tour. We flew into Kahului Airport on a Saturday. We tried to book a rental car a couple months before…read morelanding, but none were available for the Saturday. There was one available for the next day, and since we planned to stay in Lahaina during the first part of our trip, we booked a car to be picked up by Kapalua Airport. Fast-forward to the morning of car pick up. We figured we would find an Uber or Lyft to take us from the hotel to the car rental...nope! After nearly an hour of searching, we found nothing...not even a taxi. I came across Tommy Lahaina on Yelp while looking for transportation services. He said he was available to help and would get to our hotel in about 30 minutes. He texted us when he was nearby, we jumped in his passenger van, and we were on our way. He was extremely friendly and gave us tips on food, shopping, Road to Hana, etc. He literally saved our day/trip as we did not know where else to turn to. We highly recommend Tommy!

My wife, Kari, broke her foot 2 days ago so we modified our excursions and eliminated hiking to attractions. Kellen quickly came up with some alternatives and explained/described them perfectly. Kellen's knowledge of the area, the plants, the trees, and the sights were full of insight and knowledge that only a local would have! We throughly enjoyed it. His driving was superb, professional, and cautious (complete with short horn honks on the countless 1 lane blind turns). We enjoyed the small independent farms, stands, and choices for lunch too. As a side note, Kellen's personal relationship with those owners opened the door to Kari being able to use a non-public restroom. We truly appreciated your assistance helping Kari to the lookouts, negotiating the roadsides, and especially to the swim under a waterfall (Kellen knew the easiest to access and really made getting to it possible for Kari). I've lived in Kihei for many years, but have wanted to know more about the history of our town…read more Thankfully, I found that Keith does a FREE walking tour of Kihei that takes about 90 minutes. So, we signed up on their website, which is required. Tour groups are limited to 25 people, so it won't be crowded. We met outside the Kihei Library. Keith was there, eager to get to know us and we got to know each other. Keith is a fountain of information and had a notebook of visual aids to share with us. We had a short walk through Kalama Park and learned lots of the history of Kihei, back through the time of the Hawaiian kingdom, during World War II and the present day. The mystery of the life size Humpback Whale statue was solved. Who made it? How did it wind up here? Who adds a giant lei to it twice a year? My favorite part was learning about the Maps of the Mokupuni, and finding our Ahupua'a and Moku. The tour ended with a beautiful sunset from the seawall at Kalama Park. Please don't forget to tip your nice tour guide!

He goes through lots of explanation for 12 of the 30 murals in this town. We've seen these murals many years so was interesting to learn about the artists and reason behind them. Combined with the fact that the road to Hana is nicknamed "the Road to divorce", well that made it an easy decision to go along with it. I am so glad I did! Kyle was an amazing tour guide. Not only was he well prepared for the trip with snacks and drinks, the vehicle was extremely comfortable, and he provided a running commentary all along the way of facts and history. Best of all, he stopped at places which people who were driving themselves would never know about. We would literally pass dozens of cars parked on the side of the road only to go down the way about a mile, pull off on some side road, and find an even better more secluded beach to swim. They are so warm and easy to be comfortable with, within 5 minutes it felt like a friend was talking to us. These people are talented and dedicated to restorative farming. That alone is reason enough to take this tour. This isn't a manicured "farm" where there's some tour guide reading a script. This is a few people working a few acres of land, manually, for real. You're learning about why good farming matters, and they literally show you why and how as they walk you through their farm. They also very clearly respect the native Hawaiian culture and helping restore the land. Now, on to the fun stuff. It's rugged! Remember when I said it's not manicured? So, wear sneakers, not flip flops! Taro is such a cool food to find out about, both how it ties to culture of Hawaii (Hawaiians believe all Native Hawaiians are born via a stillborn baby taro and thus call taro brother?) Amazing! I'm 43 and they made me feel like I was on a school field trip I came home and gushed to my mom about (which is what I'm doing here on Yelp instead) My kids are also in love with all 3 of the owners, and they were all so so sooooo good with the kids (made the whole time so much easier and engaging even for the 3 year old) They have a stand at a Farmer's market and I will make it my Mission (no pun intended) to make sure their taro tortillas are sold in california some day so I can eat the hell out of them to and fro all the live long day.
