Maui pool service refused to put some water in the spa (only needed 6") for the leak to show up like I'm this photo.
    Julia G.

I was assigned to Maui Pool Service by Old Republic Home Warranty to fix a leak in the PVC end cap in my above ground portable spa. The house is a vacant vacation rental, so no one was there to meet the technician, which I told Maui would be the case. But the leak was identified with duct tape attached to the pipe end cap, and labeled "leak". But when I called 4 days later to see if the technican went out, Maui lady who answered the phone, said he did go out, but did not fix it, because "he could not find where the leak was". Well you have to put 6 inches of water in the hot tub in order to see the water leaking out. The hose was right there by the spa. Maui phone lady said "It is not our job to put water in the tub to see where the leak is coming from". When I told her that the leak area was identified with "leak" written on duct tape that was taped to the end cap that had a crack in it, (see photo) she said,"We do not go by signs that say where the leak is". How infuriating! How you gonna see where the leak is , if you refuse to put water in the pipe to see where it leaks, and read the signs. I immediately called Old Republic and requested another pool repair business and they assigned me to another one, but I have not make appt with the second one yet. All I know is the technician Maui sent out was really too DUMB AND UNWILLING to look beyond the tip of his nose. For a pool technician to be unwilling to put water in something to find a leak, when the area is already labeled is outrageously poor customer service, and it infuriated me! No one from Maui got back to me even 4 days after the appoint to make a report, either. I had to call Maui to find out what happened and I detailed the result above in this review. Same Maui lady said tech tried to call me 3 times, but if so, he never left a VM and I don't see any caller ID. Another reason to not deal with this company. I told her I have no idea he even tried to call once if he doesn't leave a message on my VM (which gets texted to my email). She couldn't answer. I told her I was gonna give their business 1 Yelp Star review. She said I can always request another service provider from Old Republic Home Warranty. See my photo captions, below.

    Broken Spa feature rocks

Maui Pools experience summary: broken spa rock feature, fake gfi box plug cover (never fixed), broken jet pump cover (coincidence?), sloppy work, poor follow up, arrogant owner. Details: My experience with Maui Pools is very similar to the countless other 1 star posts. We requested Maui Pools to provide an estimate to repair our spa light. They advised the light would need to be replaced. On the day of install I asked the technician to let me know when the job was complete so we could walk through the install. After awhile, I noticed the technician was no longer working on the install so I went to the front of my home and realized he was leaving. I stopped him and asked if all was ok. He said he was all done. I then asked if he would walk through his work. We went to the spa and I immediately noticed broken rock pieces from the spa feature in the spa (see pictures). I asked the tech about the broken pieces of rocks...he denied breaking the rocks. He then proceeded to show me the lights functioning. I then asked him to show me the equipment/outlet box that was replaced. I noticed a piece of metal covering up the hole on top of the box, not an actual screw/plug to protect the gfi from weather/water in the box. (See picture). When he realized I noticed he said he would return later in the day. He never returned. A few days later I had friends over and I tried to turn on the jets in the spa. They were no longer working. They were working immediately before Maui Pools arrived. I called Peter from Maui pools and explained to him if it was possible that the light install may have caused this and of course he denied. I proceeded to share with him the series of events with the broken spa rocks, the box plug that was never properly replaced and now the jets. He immediately addressed the box plug issue stating that his tech told him about the plug/screw and would be back to fix. I mentioned that the tech would have never told me about it until I asked him to walk through his job. I also mentioned that the tech said he would return later to fix and never returned. Peter's response "what's your point". I was shocked by his response but after reading other reviews, I am not shocked. Apparently Peter feels he has enough referred business that he can do and say whatever he wants to customers. My response to him was to make it right. After a few exchanged words the conversation escalated and he hung up. Never heard from him again. I spoke with my Spa Cleaner, who referred Maui pool. He felt terrible. He came to my home the next day to check everything. He agreed the rocks were not broken before and the cap used on the gfi box was not correct. He investigated the jet pump and noticed the cover was cracked. He could not confirm how it happened but possibly someone stepping on it to leverage pulling the wire to fix the light, which happens to be right next to the jet pump. (See picture). Coincidence the jets stopped working immediately after Maui pools was at my home working on the spa light replacement? Do you want to do business with Maui pools? Never again for me. ---------------------------------- Response to owner: They had an opportunity to take the high road, instead they dug a deeper hole for themselves. 40 negative reviews out of 102...It is apparent their philosophy is to deny everything, admit nothing and make false allegations.I won't repeat all the concerns previouslyposted. However, I want to address a couple of public comments made by the owner. They mentioned the video camera and their request to see the video of their tech breaking the rocks. They made a lot of drama in their attempts to discredit me. Here's the bottom line, my public comments didn't mention anything about a camera. The only time this came up was after Peter escalated the conversation byresponding, "what's your point". Since he downplayed my concerns, I asked if it was going to take a video to prove to him that the spa rock feature wasn't damaged prior to install. They used that part of the conversation to try to discredit me.They then doubled down and made an attempt to publicly defaming me alleging that I was "inebriated/intoxicated" during the phone call with Peter. It's so hypocritical for them to use their "prove it" with video comments and then without concrete evidence they make a defaming false public comment. I hate to play their game but just for fun I will also ask for proof and request concrete evidence such as a blood alcohol result or a breathalyzer report to prove their allegation. The fact is, they can't. Hearsay or a "feeling" or "sounding like" or other made up stories are not an official result. Their comments are false and inappropriate. At this point, I will attempt to take the high road. Here goes: Stop with your baseless comments and twisted facts and you can move on with the money I paid you for the spa light. You're welcome. I certainly will not expect you to resolve the concerns I expressed. Fair?

Unfortunately for Maui pools a picture is worth more than empty words. These guys tried to glue two broken pieces of PVC together.
    Irieco C.

I don't know why anyone would give these guys more than 1 star. I would give them 0 if I could. They obviously must treat different kinds of customers differently. If you have a home warranty ...forget it. Just like other people have said, the first thing they say is "your warranty company probably wont cover this". BS. It was a simple leak. Then we don't have the part" What??? Some PVC! Some O rings? They have been out three times. Made one issue worse. Missed two other appointments. Next step small claims court.

Let's face it, Home Warranty companies hate paying for pool repairs and will use every excuse in the book to get out of it. When Adam came to the house, I sat and watched everything he did, being skeptical after the first guy they sent. He found that the transformer was not functioning, and needed to order that part before seeing if there were any other issues, because the transformer supplied the power, and with no power, he was unable to check anything else. He made it seem as if he would rush them the report that night, in hopes to get an answer by the next day so that he could come back and install it. I was trying to get it fixed for a tenant that was moving in and was only in town another day. Next day went by and heard nothing. A week went by and still heard nothing. Finally I called the Warranty company (Old Republic), and asked what's up. They told me that everything is denied because his report said the damage was due to rodents. There was no evidence at all of any rodent activity, yet he said there was rodent excrement all over the unit in his report. That unit was spotless when he examined it. I had vacuumed out all leaves and any debris before he got there. He was purely making this up in his head because he thought the first report mentioned rodent activity which it did not. I don't know where he got that, but probably something the warranty company wanted him to state in his report in order to deny the claim...even though the warranty company told me they never give the second guy the first company's report, but they obviously told him something about rodents to look out for because that's what his whole report was about...even going so far as to say the other components which he couldn't even test because the transformer was not working, were all damaged by rodents. When I first called to cuss him out, he told me on the phone that the bottom was all covered in rodent poop. I asked him to send me pictures because I knew better and then he hung up on me. He later texted me saying that there was no debris whatsoever in the unit, and that I had it cleaned before he got there, and by vacuuming it out, I must have caused the transformer to stop working, since the bad transformer was not in the first report. He also blamed any rust he saw on rodent urine. How about the fact that the unit was 20 years old, and Oxygen alone will rust metal especially over that long of a period. But no, it was definitely rodent urine according to him. Pure speculation without any evidence at all to benefit only the Home Warranty company. Shows how biased he was to provide the warranty company with something that they can deny any repairs for. Bottom line is he is a big liar, just like the person in the other review stated. I attached copies of his text to me which proves what a liar he is regarding any rodent activity....that he made it all up. I plan to sue him for the cost of a new pool heater, since he falsified his report to the warranty company to get them to deny the claim.

There was only one shower available and this didn't have a privacy curtain; but I showered anyway, naked. After a few minutes one of the female employees stood next to the shower and told me that next time i need to keep my swimsuit on during showering, because there are children around in the female changing room. This statement was somehow confusing for me and i told her that it is very unhygienic and unhealthy to not shower naked before and after using a pool. She pointed out that i can't shower naked in the facilities of a public pool and left. I started rushing to finish showering, but only a few seconds later another woman in the changing room started screaming at me! She screamed: "This is not cute! You can't shower naked here. I don't want my children to see your b*bs and va*na!" I stayed calm and left the shower as fast as possible; i grabbed my towel and wanted to change into my clothes but the woman walked over to me, stood very close in front of me and screamed again: "I am going to sl*p you!! We are in the USA! Go into the restroom for changing!" At this point i was really scared and terrified, because she was extremly agressive. From all the screaming the employee, who talked to me first had come into the room and witnessed the woman threa*ing me to sl*p me; a few seconds later the manager walked in. Both told me to go into the restroom for changing and the manager offered me to walk me to my car, so i can leave safely. Somehow the focus was more on me showering naked than the woman threa*ning me. I pointed out to the manager, that it would be at least fair, to tell the woman that it is not ok to thr*ten someone! I mean a female changing room should be a place where every woman can feel safe! So i went for changing into the restroom and she talked to the woman and walked me to my car. At the parking lot i told the manager that i am really afraid of that woman and very confused about the situation, because for me it is just the very normal thing to shower naked before and after going to a pool and something like this never happened to me before and California is the eighth state of the USA i am travelling through. She explained to me that it is not allowed to shower naked in a public pool in California, unless there is someting like a curtain etc. covering the shower area. I asked what they are going to do, because of the woman's behaviour and she said if that woman is threa*ning someone again, she is going to get a mark for her name. After this i was really convinced that people in California don't shower naked before and after using the pool and that this seems to be a cultural thing. Only two days later i met a woman, who happened to work as a lifeguard in California and i told her my story. She couldn't believe what had happened and that i was treated so badly! She actually let me know that it is indeed encouraged that people shower before and after using a public pool- for hygienic and health reasons. It is the duty of the pool to even point this out to the visitors and provide proper facilities, including a shower curtain or something similar. Also the employee and manager handled the situation very badly; in California it is considered a crime to threaten someone, even when that person doesn't physically harm the other one- so the employees should have called the police right away, especially when one of them witnessed the woman threatening me. I can just highly recommend to everybody to avoid this pool and drive a few extra miles, because there are plenty of pools around in the area. It is very alarming for me that i can obviously not feel safe in the female changing room of the Pawley Pool. This should be a safe environment for a woman everywhere!
