He even made recommendations for settings to use while snorkeling and demonstrated how to get to those settings quickly without navigating complex menus. Price wise it was the same price as online retailers and since I'm in Maui instead of California the sales tax was half what I normally pay so I actually saved some money. Nice little shop with knowledgeable staff and higher end camera equipment. Highly recommend stopping in for any camera needs. Explained how light is filtered through water and how the camera compensates for it. Spent a lot of time making sure I was comfortable with my purchase meeting my needs and saved me from having to read the manual to get started. read more

As an out-of-town visitor, I called these guys on the offchance that they would have a power cable that would be compatible with my GoPro Hero 4 (current NEW version on the market is the Hero 11 for future reference). I spoke to, who I believe is the owner, and he placed me on a short hold to confirm he had the item in question before I drove over. A brief time later, he confirmed, and 20 minutes later, the cable was in-hand! --if I had not been able to find this item in Lahaina, I would have had to hoof it the 45-ish minutes back to Kahului to try at a Target or Best Buy big box store. I am SO glad I was able to support a local business! I also picked up a couple of SD cards, and it was a quick and friendly interaction. Not sure about the negative reviews but my experience was very positive when I went here a few weeks ago. I needed a charger for my wife's camera when we visited Maui. Left the charger back home. I searched online and I'm glad I found this place as we were staying in Kaanapali. I didn't want to drive out to Kahului or Wailea just for a charger. When I got there, I showed him the camera battery and he recommended a Universal charger. Showed me how to use the unit and everything. The charger even came with a cable for the car. Very easy and fast service. I definitely recommend this place. read more

Not quite sure about the negative reviews because my experience here today was excellent. I called in the morning looking for a not very common battery for my Olympus underwater digital camera. Not only did they have it in stock it was not over priced and when I arrived the owner had already charged the battery for me! I called Paul about 10 minutes before his closing and he spent time researching the size of the filters that I needed. I told him that I needed the filters for the Total Red Moon Eclipse that night. He was kind enough to stay open another 45 minutes to let me get there from Kihei. Paul then spent a lot of time explaining how to use the filters. I decided to buy a Tripod stand. He really explained the difference of all he ones that he had and even showed me how they all worked. I had forgotten what it was like to get that kind of service in this day and age. My brand new camera would not charge. Fortunately I found this shop and he took a look at my camera. Apparently the plug for the charger was loose so it wasn't staying connected when charging. Fortunately he recommended a universal charger and I was able to charge the camera. I now have great snorkeling pictures and was able to exchange my camera. I've been in this store once. I've called him several times this year. I've been turned down so many times. The first time I called I needed info on which camera was best for my needs. I wanted to buy from his store. I wanted a good camera for 500.00 which world be a canon T6 or the Nikon d3400 he had neither cameras for sale. I bought from Costco the rebel T6, anyways, I wanted to get reflectors. I called him to see if he had reflectors? Yepp again he doesn't sell them. Than....... I needed a tripod.. please... My husband realized two days into our trip that he had forgotten to bring the battery charger for his Canon 7D. I found this shop online and the owner was SO helpful! He sold me a universal charger and made sure that I understood exactly how to work it. I am NOT good at tech-y things and he was very thorough and clear in his explanation. Not a huge super-store camera place...but very well stocked, and they had exactly what I needed. I'm visiting from the mainland and wanted to take a photo tour but left a filter at home that I desperately wanted to have. My wide and I were on Maui recently and had a problem with our Nikon DSLR. We read the online manual but could not resolve a repair so I called Paul. He advised we come to the store and he would take a look. He was polite and courteous and had our problem resolved in a matter of seconds (and did not make us feel like a pair of dummies). He had a wide angle tele lens I thought about buying at a shop back home before we went to Maui and I asked about buying his. Saw all the negative reviews but decided to drive up from wailea to check this place out. I had some issues with my U/W camera. First off, this place has hardly anything for underwater photography. Excellent service, great attitude, quality product. We had some photos scanned and reproduced. They did a great job, delivered on-time.

Spoke to Paul on the phone who seemed to be the owner of the store asking him just one simply question. "Do you rent out gear?" He responded in a very dry mono tone voice that seemed tired and irritated and a senseless regard for customer service, "Nope, we don't do that here." followed by silence. Hoping for a detailed response or explanation of any further options of purchasing or ordering, I had nothing but a dead silent response. I DO NOT recommend going here. It's very shameful of him especially being a local here to have the only camera store's have customer service like this. Paul if you are reading this, pick up on 101 customer service, it'll guarantee improve you business and your customers. Continue to be a stuck up and arrogant person, consider your store a loss. First, I found no other camera shop on the island that sells equipment. Doesn't seem possible with all of the photography studios around but it's what I could find...Second, their inventory is bleak, and what they have is par consumer grade (i.e., lower quality) products at higher quality prices. Third, they charged me $78 for a lens that costs $28 at B&H Photo! All sales are final, no returns. This is unacceptable. Fourth, the guy is rude. You'd do better ordering gear online and returning it if you don't use it. Lesson-learned. read more

The man here was both VERY knowledgeable and nice! We had a camera issue where one of the latches for the y would not open. The clerk here helped us free of charge to get it open. Clearly sand gets into ANYWHERE. Again, charged us nothing to fix and gave us a lot of relief! Would absolutely recommend to anyone either with questions or facing an issue like we had. read more

Wow! DO NOT buy from this store. Called to ask if they had a battery in stock since I forgot mine while on vacation. The man on the other end of the phone was rude, abrupt, nasty and arrogant. When I asked if I could speak to the owner about how he was talking to customers he said he was the owner and "he was the only camera store on the island and if I didn't like it I didn't need to buy it and hung up on me." Skip this store and order any forgotten batteries online and have them delivered right to your door, you'll get much better customer service. read more

ARISTS BEWARE. Terrible, terrible experience. I am a watercolor artist and I needed some small prints made of my work. I was looking to start a relationship with a new print business as my previous printer went out of business. Paul printed my images off-center and with blemishes in the background. When I asked him to fix it, he basically told me to get lost!! He told me to take my business elsewhere. I couldn't believe how rude and arrogant he was! Did he think I wouldn't notice they were crooked?! Shocking to say the least! Never been treated this poorly. Thankfully he gave me a refund but definitely wasted my time and treated me TERRIBLY. I have no idea how he stays in business. I am now working with Island Printing & Imaging and Charlie there is AMAZING. Go there instead!!! read more
