Matto Espresso Carnegie Hill's delicious large Matcha, Spinach Bureka, and Gluten Free Power Bar
Mike R.

Love Matto Espresso! It's where you can get an inexpensive drink or small bite! Recommend you get the app to order, where some items can cost as low as $3! While my first time at this Carnegie Hill location, have frequented their other spots and can't wait until a day when I'll live closer to one! [Note - This relatively small location with only one small table outdoors.] This time, I had a large unsweetened Matcha, Spinach Bureka, and tried out their tasty gluten-free Power Bar. The Bureka was warmed up to just the right temperature to make the dough flaky and the black sesame on top added a lot of flavor. My Matcha really hit the spot on this late winter day! Another fantastic combo! Recommend you check Matto Espresso out! Looking forward to my next trip to one of their locations!

Matto Espresso is now only a couple blocks from my apartment. It sure has changed the payment system since I visited. Now you get the $2.50 for everything if you download the app and order ahead using your credit card. In order to save the $1 plus tax I took the time to download the app etc. The female employee was helpful except I didn't want her doing it for me touching my phone. It was a process. After my initial order I ordered a Cinnamon Scone to take home for breakfast tomorrow. It was easier. You have to put $10 initially into the app. I'm going to be upset if it automatically replenishes. I told the employee I preferred not to have it replenished automatically. I'm going to review the app settings carefully. One thing I couldn't find in the app was to set the location. I had to select from the long list of Matto locations. The Spinach Boureka was filling because it was almost all bread. I won't get that again. I'll let you know when I eat the scone. I advise you to download the app to take care of the financial worries before you visit a Matto Espresso. You will save per item like I did. Today I saved two dollars plus tax. I'm recommending because I like the coffee and cheap eats that are made fresh daily!

Cold Brew vegan carrot cake

Decent coffee & pastries & green drink (the bottled one in the fridge). The slightly lower price compared to others (since I usually order in person) makes everything taste slightly better.. i tried their vegan carrot muffin the other day which was pretty dense but not bad. Tastes carrot-y. Service is usually pretty fast

Really nice change to the Carnegie Hill cafe scene. We have been awaiting something new and fresh to this section of Lexington Avenue, which is rather a cafe dessert in this section of Lexington Avenue. I highly recommend the banana latte with dates.

After a few days in the city together, my friend and I stopped in for breakfast before parting ways. The vibe was cozy, relaxed, and welcoming, exactly what you want from a local coffee shop. The giant windows lend a ton of natural light, especially for place that almost needs to wait until midday for some sunshine. The bagels absolutely hit the spot: fresh, satisfying, and exactly what we needed. Nothing overly complicated, just solid, well-executed breakfast. They have pastries and sandwiches, as well, but your girl needed a real New York bagel before this trip was through. What really stood out for me, though, was the hot cider on special. It was warm, spiced just right, and comforting for a November morning. I could easily see this shop as a regular go-to of mine if I lived in the neighborhood.

Yes, a kale salad and a guava waffle. Stay with me. The salad is fresh, savory, and hearty, especially with the grilled chicken. Then comes the waffle--warm, slightly sweet, and topped with guava rum butter that melts into every little pocket. Oh my goodness. Taking a bite of the savory chicken and kale, followed by that soft guava waffle, gives me the perfect sweet-and-savory meal. It should not work as beautifully as it does, but it absolutely does. And the brown sugar latte? Always. It's smooth, comforting, and sweet without tasting like someone poured syrup into a cup and called it coffee. The space has the easy, unhurried feeling of a neighborhood coffee shop, but the menu is giving a real brunch experience. It's cozy and beautifully lit during the day--the kind of place where you can settle in and enjoy yourself without feeling rushed. The service matches that energy. Everyone is attentive, kind, and genuinely knows the menu. They always greet you with a smile and give you exactly the right amount of small talk: enough to make you feel welcomed, never so much that it interrupts your peace. The atmosphere, the people, and that guava rum butter keeps me coming back.

Make your own if you're not feeling theirs. It's worth it. Also writing this review because they are just quality people. I ordered a vegan pizza with some toppings but wanted pepperoni and that wasn't an option. I made a note asking if a substitution was possible, knowing it likely wasn't because of a price difference. I'm not vegan, but I needed a dairy-free alternative since I am breastfeeding a baby with a cow milk protein intolerance. The LOADED up my pizza. Truly stand-up humans. We really enjoyed visiting this coffee shop with Bobbi. The coffee had a deep, rich flavor, and the hot pastries were excellent. I ended up starving and looking for a place in the neighborhood for a breakfast sandwich. Rimar looked good from the outside, there were a bunch of banners announcing them as a "brand new" business having a "grand opening". Once inside, I realized that was probably not true. Looking around, I didn't see any coffee nor was there any kind of posted menu indicating the possibility of breakfast sandwiches. The man behind the counter was friendly enough though, and took my order for 2 bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches on a roll. He also indicated that he DID have coffee. Great! While I was waiting in the store for 15 minutes for my order. I noticed a woman (maybe another owner) casing the place down and staring at everyone who entered. I noticed that the rest of the store sold only a bleak selection of junk food. There was nothing interesting on the shelves! I noticed a man and woman come in, have an entirely transactional conversation and then leave, buying nothing. I noticed two separate hipsters walk in, look around and then walk out. I waited and waited. Finally, my order was ready. Without any register or paper calculations, the man told me my order was $10 exactly. Not feeling too good about that. The coffee was super hot and actually ok, I think he brewed a fresh pot on my request (thank you for that). The breakfast sandwiches were pretty awful. Greasy eggs, strangely chopped and super greasy bacon, you get the picture. I think Rimar could really do much better. They are in a great location without a lot of direct competition, in a neighborhood, that I am certain, would support a nicer deli with expanded options.

I love how crispy the bread is. Sometimes the bacon is a little too salty for me, but I still love it. The sandwich is huge so it's good to split with someone.
