Matthew's is one of my favorite restaurants in town! Definitely call ahead and let them know if you're having a special event because they will make sure you feel extra special. Reservations aren't required but helpful. The bar area is pretty casual so if you just feel like popping in because you're in the neighborhood but you're not sure if you're dressed well enough... like you can totally stop in and hang in there because their espresso martinis are one of my favorites! And their happy hour is definitely the best time go. We normally go for the different Chef's tasting adventures which are coursed out meals with or without wine pairings... Just because it's fun to be surprised and try new things sometimes. They try to accommodate all allergies and you can always order things "on the side" if you're not sure about it which I love because I can be picky... sometimes ;) If I order off the menu, I normally order either their seasonal preparation of the scallops or the aged steak because the toppings and salts that come with their steak are amazing! And if you only order one thing on their menu... make sure it's the souffle! Their souffle is always cooked perfectly to order no matter what flavor they are serving and the creme anglaise that they always serve it with is so silky and completes it just perfectly. Overall, I would definitely recommend giving this restaurant a try and highly suggest it for your more intimate special occasions.

Wildly disappointed in the service and the food. The plating of all dishes seems to be from a graduate from fscj culinary program. Flavorless lifeless not one dish out of 6 made me think I can't wait to come back here. The most authentic person FOH was the hostess and the waiters assistant. The timing of the meal ruined the entire experience of what this restaurant should be delivering for the price point. The real goob stopper is when the sun sets and they raise the blinds to see the traffic outside really showcasing why jacksonville is such a unique city of despair.

We went to Matthew's for a special family occasion. I chose this restaurant as it is one of the best in Jax in my humble opinion. Street parking is tight so we used the valet parking option. We were greeted by name from the valet all the way to our waitstaff. We appreciated the extra special touches for service including the bread selection, butter with olive oil and pink salt, selection of citrus slices for our glasses of water. The drink menu was extensive. The food was expertly made and portion sizes were perfect. Dessert was decadent. We liked the upscale vibe of the restaurant with view of the kitchen. I highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion for an intimate dinner where you want to impress your guest(s). The price is on the more expensive side but in this case, I think you get what you pay for. I haven't tried the chef's tasting menu yet but will definitely have to return to try it.

Matthew's is without a doubt Jacksonville's flagship fine dinning restaurant. The attention to detail and excellent service starts with their valet and continues with the rest of the staff. The decoration is simple and elegant with a kitchen that integrates with the dinning room allowing diners to view where the magic occurs. We opted to decide on our 3 courses, and I particularly went for some of Caroline's favourite (our server) the foie gras. My other choices included the steak tartare and the scallops. I may have difficulty choosing something else next time I decide to go, as all three plates were exquisite.

Delicious food. Branzino had a delicious caviar sauce. Pork chop was really tender and flavorful. Great service and our waiter was very impressive with his knowledge of the menu.

I doubt this review will even scratch the surface of how satisfied and pleased my husband and I were during our date night at Matthew's. I called the restaurant a few weeks prior to our set date night, my husband's birthday, and spoke to Cricket on the phone about their chefs tasting menu. She was fabulous with explaining what we could expect and booked our reservation for us. When we arrived, from the moment we pulled up to valet, every single aspect of our dining experience was thought about and intentional. We grabbed a round of drinks at the bar (espresso martini is to die for) then headed to the dining room where Caroline was our server. She couldn't not have been more educated & welcoming during our time. I simply was over the moon with the food, service, cleanliness and ambiance of Matthew's. Absolutely will be dining here again!!

What an experience, from the atmosphere to the food. Everything was delicious and well served. Absolutely worth the price and wait. Best service I have seen.

Mah Wife got me the most excellent early Christmas gift tonight: a 6-course Chef's Adventure tasting menu dinner at Matthew's Restaurant in the San Marco neighborhood (@dinematthews). I had no idea what the menu would be; we just sat back, relaxed, enjoyed each other's company, and let the chef and staff take care of us for a couple of hours. This menu took us on a wonderful journey through land and sea, sweet and savory. From service to final presentation, everything was thoughtful and intentional; each course building on the previous. Early courses were light and delicate, middle courses dove into the deep end of umami, until finally, a sweet finish. So without further adieu, the six courses: 1. Crispy Jasmine rice crisp topped with crab salad, tomato jam, and lemon vinaigrette 2. U8 Maine diver scallop, green apple sphere, chestnut Velouté, maple syrup drizzle 3. Mafaldine house-made pasta with anchovy brown butter sauce, chanterelle mushrooms, and Parmesan Reggiano cheese (my favorite of the courses) 4. Lamb confit, white bean cassoulet with Iberico pork, lamb jus, roasted sunchoke and carrots, watercress 5. Triple cream goat cheese, cranberry artichoke compote 6. Cinnamon roll bread pudding with caramel sauce and chantilly cream If you've never experienced a multi-course tasting menu, I would highly recommend Matthew's

This is one of my favorite places to eat. I can't recommend it enough. We have done the chef tasting menu four times and we are never disappointed. I can't say enough about our server Peter. He is absolutely fabulous. I told him I was going to rave about him on my review so here it is. He knew his menu, his wine selections and went above and beyond to make sure I had a perfect birthday celebration. Of all the service I have had he will by far be one of my most memorable. Thank you for keeping a smile on my face the entire evening, and that's not just the wine and bourbon talking. We truly loved this whole experience. The food was amazing, the restaurant is beautiful and service was top notch.

Unbelievably delicious! First time in Jacksonville, this place was recommended, and it did not disappoint. Steak tartare, Branzino just wowww!!! If you are in the area definitely need to try. Service was amazing as well.

Had our anniversary dinner here. Overall the service and food were pretty great. Started off with a customized menu that we got to keep at the end of the evening. Started off with the roasted beet salad and the snow crab salad. The beet salad wasn't too special but the crab salad was amazing. Great crab chunks! The second course was the charred eggplant that was charred perfectly. For the entree, I ordered the Fish of the evening which was a sea bass. My SO ordered the Veal chop. The sea bass had an edge on the chop. The fish was soft and flakey and we paired it with caviar. The perfect bite was the fish, puree, broccolini and a bit of caviar on top. The chop was cooked well but could do without the jam topping. We also had a side of the Brussel sprouts which was crispy and delicious. We ended the evening with their soufflé. Pretty good but not the best I've had. The restaurant is quaint and intimate with an open kitchen. I enjoyed watching the magic happen. There's also a bar out front which has a separate menu and I believe they have happy hour.

I have nothing at all but the highest remarks when it comes to Matthews. We sat at the chefs table and had an amazing time. It was quite the experience. We watched the food being prepped. The cooks in the kitchen explained several of the dishes to us. We were treated to extra bites (sample tasting). The food was amazing. The portions were perfect for all the courses we received with our order. While this isn't your every night out spot as it is quite $$$. It's definitely a place to come celebrate a special night, spend a pretty penny, but leave happy and satisfied.

    Halle M.

This has got to be one of the most fulfilling experiences. It was our anniversary and we decided to try the 6 course tasting plus wine pairing. All courses were delicious and surprised my taste buds. The flavors combined exceeded my expectations. The staff was extremely friendly and kind. We have already considered making ritual visits. The tasting offers new dishes each time, which I look forward to exploring and enjoying. The restaurant itself is decorated nicely. Very classy & upscale. The event created a special menu which highlighted our anniversary. If you ever get a chance, you should definitely visit. Also you should dress nicely.

One of the highlights of the evening was the chef/owner personally visiting our table. He was incredibly warm, hospitable, and genuinely passionate about his restaurant and guests. The salad was fresh and delicious, and you could immediately tell that everything was made to order. I had the Sofy with veal, and my husband had the Sofy with chicken -- hands down one of the best pasta dishes I've had in a very long time. Every bite was flavorful and perfectly prepared. Five stars all the way! Highly recommend this little gem to anyone looking for authentic Italian food and outstanding hospitality in Jacksonville.

She made sure to check up on us, answered all of our questions, and refilled our drinks often. It was super clean there too! We were started off with some fresh, warm bread and a balsamic/olive oil dipping sauce. The bread was perfectly crispy and went so well with the dipping sauce. We were served cold bread before at restaurant so I'm glad we had warm bread! We decided on the following appetizer and entrees: Fried meat ravioli - 8/10: it came out piping hot and it was so delicious! Fried to a nice, golden brown and covered in panko crumbs, it didn't feel heavy at all. It came with a fresh marinara sauce and had parmesan cheese sprinkled on top of the fried ravioli. Each bite was cheesy, crispy, tasty, meaty, and we devoured it quickly! Carbonara Alla Roma - 8.5/10: I thought the portion would be small since I seen photos online but it was actually a great portion. I had enough to take home and eat as leftovers! The pasta was cooked perfectly and the alfredo sauce was balanced and decadent. I could taste the pecorino romano, and cracked black pepper. The pancetta was smoky and added a nice umami flavor to the pasta. I didn't rate it higher because it was slightly missing a little bit of of that BAM factor! but it was pretty delicious! The Sofi - chicken - 9/10: Oh my gosh! My best friend got this and I wished I would have too! It was sooooooooooooooooooo good! It had prosciutto di parma, mushrooms, asparagus, shallots, cooked in wine and tossed in a rose cream sauce. The pasta was also cooked perfectly and that sauce was to die for! Each bite was like tasting the finest flavors and spices of Italy. I could not believe how tasty this was! If you come here, you HAVE to try this dish! Tiramisu - 9.5/10: One of the best tiramisus we've had in Jacksonville. It was the perfect amount of espresso and cream. They had dollops of chocolate sauce on the side and helped elevated the flavor of the tiramisu. It also wasn't super sweet which we appreciate. We don't really like overly sweet desserts and this one hits the mark on everything. Overall, service, food, and atmosphere was great! We would definitely come back to try other menu items! Thank you for such a great first experience, Sofi's!

Pair it with the crème fraîche on either the toasted bread or the chips, and muah perfection! Personally, I preferred it with the chips since I found the toasted bread a little too salty. * The Tuna Carpaccio was a surprising 10/10. We sliced it into strips, making sure each bite had the comb crisps, basil aioli, yuzu aioli, Florida sterlet caviar, micro arugula, and mushrooms. Oh my god! the flavors were incredible. The tuna made each bite light and refreshing, while all the other ingredients layered together beautifully, revealing new flavors as you kept chewing. * The oysters were another 10/10. They were incredibly fresh, and pairing them with the sorbet created such a refreshing combination. The kimchi dropper was just okay, I was hoping for more heat. The mignonette dropper, though, was absolutely delicious and complemented the oysters perfectly. * The Charred Octopus gets a 9/10. The octopus was wonderfully tender, but I wished the chorizo flavor came through more. The fregola was fantastic, it was satisfying and filling without feeling too heavy. * The Mussels Frites earns an 8/10. The fries were perfectly seasoned and honestly one of my favorite parts of the dish. The mussels were good, but like the octopus, I expected a stronger chorizo flavor. * The Burgundy Escargot is a solid 10/10. Absolutely delicious! The rich bone marrow melted in your mouth, and it paired so well with the escargot. Such a creative combination that worked beautifully. * The outdoor seating was wonderful! Even though it was raining, it was still very comfortable thanks to the fans nearby, so it never felt hot or humid. The ambiance was elegant yet relaxing, making it the perfect spot for a romantic date night, a special birthday celebration, or any gathering with family and friends. The overall vibe made the experience even more memorable. Lastly, a special shout-out to our server, Colette! She was wonderful from start to finish! She was always cheerful, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. We weren't feeling too hungry so we ordered the following based on the waitress and our friend's recommendations: 1) Crispy Brussels sprouts 2) Duck Fat Corn Bread 3) House made pasta + sugo The crispy brussels sprouts were a bit undercooked and lacked flavor but if you prefer a less crispy Brussel sprout dish I would recommend it over the duck fat corn bread. The duck fat corn bread was disappointing. It was an odd combination of flavors that did not mix very well. The corn bread was mushy and the crisp Napa cabbage with the random ranch/spicy sauce combo did not pair well and left my mouth feeling confused. I had high expectations for their house made pasta as they had a pasta maker out for viewing. The pasta was overcooked and every bite was an interesting mix of flavors...some bites salty...some bites unseasoned. We loved the gambas al ajillo -- the shrimp had great flavor and just the right amount of heat -- and the grilled sourdough was perfect for soaking up every bit of the delicious sauce. A few things fell short, though. Our table for two felt cramped, especially since it was positioned directly against a wooden divider. I was facing the back of the restaurant, so as right-hander, sitting up against the wall felt awkward and made the space feel even tighter. I'm a huge fan of seafood stews and almost always order them when I see one on the menu, so I was looking forward to the Sicilian Stew. While the overall flavor was good, it leaned a bit too salty for my taste. More disappointing was the fish itself -- it seemed cooked down and stirred into the broth to the point where it acted more like a thickener than a distinct part of the dish. I would have preferred visible pieces of fish with more texture and presence. Overall, the staff was warm and attentive, the service was excellent, and the food arrived promptly. Despite a few drawbacks, I'd still be open to giving Taverna another try in the future.

The menu is via QR code that takes you to their website and you can find wines, cocktails (with wine) and some beers. I tried the wine flight (Riesling, Cab Sav and an employees choice) which was delicious and a great way to try multiple options to find what you like. Also tried the frozen strawberry frozen marg which I unfortunately did not enjoy. It didn't have a lot of strawberry flavor, it tastes more like cherry medicine. Do want to mention that when it gets busy, it may be hard to find parking and the area is pretty sketchy (I didn't feel safe parking far and having to walk over. One time a homeless guy was yelling at me when I was walking on the sidewalk), so just be mindful and careful if you do park far and having to walk.

I stopped by during one of their vinyl events and instantly fell in love with the atmosphere. First things first... the Pink Pony Club cocktail WOW. It was perfectly balanced, flavorful, and dangerously easy to sip. Not too strong, not too sweet... just right. The kind of drink that makes you immediately consider ordering a second (or third ). At some point my stomach reminded me that it is requiring fuel, so I ordered one of their gourmet glizzys and went with the Chicago Glizzy. Let me tell you... absolutely amazing. Bold, delicious, and somehow both indulgent and elevated at the same time. The overall vibe is what truly makes this place special. The patio, glowing with soft lights, feels like the perfect place to unwind under the stars , while the indoor space gives off a cozy library-meets-speakeasy feel that makes you want to settle in and stay awhile. The crowd was warm and welcoming, the energy was positive, and the staff were friendly with excellent service from start to finish. Bonus highlight: I even met a new friend while I was there always a sign you've found a great spot . I'm already looking forward to my next visit so I can spend even more time soaking it all in. Highly recommend if you want good drinks, great food, and unforgettable vibes .
