We didn't want to replace them with generic windows from a manufacturer so he took out the rotten sashes and repaired them at his workshop, replacing the rotten wood with clean new wood. He even repainted them in a color so close to the original, it's pretty much indistinguishable to my very picky eye. His work was careful and innovative -- it was a really difficult repair -- and he left the place completely tidy. Dann also rebuilt our back outdoor stairs and did a tidy, solid job of it. His rates are reasonable and he's quick, a great communicator and easy to be around. We recommended Dan to a friend who needed some fairly extensive work done in her kitchen and she said his work was excellent and he was a joy to have around (she works at home).

I am a School Counselor at the highest poverty, elementary school in Gresham. We are a very busy, high-needs school. I love my job but have been struggling organizationally with it as I have been working in a small room with piles of office supplies, therapeutic tools, paperwork, clothes, shoes and games stacked high. It was a chaotic environment where I could never find anything when I needed it, and kids were always tripping over things. It was stressful and I often found myself dreaming about "if only I had shelves....." Then Kitchen Concepts came into my world. Dave heard my plea of desperation. He came out to my place of work and saw the need. He measured and designed a beautiful plan that included many shelves, drawers, two desks and all the storage I need to succeed. And the best news? He told me he wanted to donate all the materials and the labor. This undoubtedly would have costs thousands of dollars but he decided to donate everything as he saw the real need of a local school. Dave told me that due to ongoing projects, he and his right-hand man John may not be able to complete all the finishes, minor details and fine-tuning of this project due to time constrictions. I totally understood. John and Dave (two of the kindest and most genuine guys you will ever meet) came down to my school to install the cabinets and literally didn't take a single break. They worked like crazy for HOURS and did every every sort of finish, minor detail, fine-tuning and touch-up possible. The outcome was (and is) absolutely stunning. Immediately the quality of my work with kiddos has improved due to the beautiful welcoming space, the ability to find things when I need them and a calming feeling for students as opposed to a chaotic one. I highly suggest this wonderful family-owned business to anyone and everyone out there. They care about our community, give to our kids, work hard, are generous, kind and create a beautiful product! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Kitchen Concepts for being the incredible business that you are. You make a difference. To anyone looking for a quality product, please chose Kitchen Concepts. They invest in the community they are a part.

I was able to reach the other sides of my house myself on the ladder to get the job done, but the southwest side of the house was a significantly higher up, due to the slope of my property. I reached out to countless contractors, painters and handymen over the summer to see if anyone was interested/available, and had struck out. Contractors were either already busy, or not interested in the small-ish project (or just didn't respond at all). I had started to price out how much it would cost for me to rent a utility trailer to pick up some rented scaffolding and do the project myself. Then, a friend recommended Straight Arrow Construction. I checked out the website, confirmed there was adequate licensing/insurance on file with the state, and reached out via email. Lon responded a short time later, and stated he was interested in the project, and could complete it within the timeframe I was hoping for (about a month out). The price was reasonable (about $100 more than it would have cost me to rent a utility trailer and scaffolding) and we agreed on some tentative dates that my small-ish project could be squeezed in between other already scheduled projects. Lon arrived on the pre-discussed day, was friendly, and got the job done in about 5 hours (including set up and tear down). He did a great job, and even went above and beyond to caulk/paint areas that he saw needed it and were slightly outside of the area we had discussed. Would definitely recommend and will be considering him for any of my future projects!

We are very new to the process of doing renovations - for a long time we lived with what had been…read moredone to our house before we moved in - partly because it was in good shape, and partly because we had heard horror stories about the way things could go wrong with contractors. Finally arriving at a place in our lives to be able to do some things we've always wanted to do, I collected estimates for a bathroom remodel. Mike was the only one to come out to the house and look over the entire picture when he heard that there were some unknown plumbing issues. Another estimate was from a firm with many good reviews, but which was more of a cookie cutter approach to remodels - limited selections and clear limits on the work that they would do, versus requiring us to get other contractor assistance to complete. A third was not in a competitive position, although again, they had strong reviews. After our initial discussions, I asked for a confirmation / update to their original estimates, using a sort of modified set of use cases - describing our intended uses for the bathroom and what constituted a successful remodel from that viewpoint. Two of the three responded there - one hopeful that they would be able to meet our criteria - and Mike, who not only responded how he would deal with the specifics, but also updated the estimate to reflect the additional work to ensure our success. His flexibility and speed of answering both convinced us to go with Tortoise. We're very glad we did. For one thing, our house is almost 100 years old - lath and plaster walls and everything that goes with that. It requires a contractor with experience working with these places, and Mike has that. Mike was confident we could get what we were looking for done, and he and his team came through in a big way. Also, realizing he was dealing with newbies, he was good about providing reminders once we were on the schedule about finding our materials and getting them ordered to coincide with the scheduled start date of our project. Ultimately we got help from a designer Mike recommended - Galen - who was invaluable both as a consultant on the materials and as a translator between the timing requirements Mike and his team had, and the decisions we needed to make. We ended up adding a few small finishing touches that weren't part of the original estimate, including a significantly upgraded lighting set up, fan control and medicine cabinet, molding around the ceiling - small things that made a big difference in how the finished product looks. The holes that had to be made to address the plumbing issue were also cleaned up and we were still able to keep to the estimate, as some of the materials we chose represented savings over the original estimate. Adam was our primary lead, was consistently positive and upbeat and kept us well informed of what was going on and what to expect - and while we met Anthony, Tyler, Cam and Nate, we never had to know who was doing what or when. Everything was managed smoothly. We have other projects planned in the future - and we will be working with Tortoise again.
