As an Ivy League MBA with a successful career, my life was shattered in ONE visit to Dr. John Holt Jr. This "father-son" practice (dad quietly returned to retirement after baiting reviews) is a deceptive trap: Sparse office open 3 days/week, marketed as experienced but run by a 1-year nepo newbie doing restoratives 2 days/week. They bribe other dentists for referrals and pursue direct mailing to target local victims. Went in on June 23, 2025 for EMERGENCY fix on a single chipped front tooth. This inexperienced dentist (in his 20s, less than 1 year doing crowns) aggressively pressured me for a bridge, full mouth exam which I declined. This aggressive, arrogant, rushed "provider" ignored everything, pressured me into crowning BOTH front teeth (despite the adjacent one being healthy and essential for eating), and turned a quick visit into irreversible horror. Botched anesthesia: John Holt Jr. used epinephrine anesthetic contraindicated for heart conditions. Reckless drilling: Aggressively removed sound filling from healthy tooth, cut gum without consent, no disinfection or core buildup (confirmed by other dentists), damaged nerve, refused to disinfect the area, and ground my teeth to tiny stubs--left bacteria, causing infection. Rushed work: He injected without numbing my gum (I screamed in pain). One oversized temp crown for BOTH teeth. Fraud billing: Overcharged co-pay (claimed 40% vs. 50% coverage which I corrected him twice). Billed undone core buildup/incomplete crown work. Only pre-X-ray submitted--no proof (No post crown prep X-ray) Weeks after I informed him by email that I would not be returning, the Delta Dental supervisor contacted John Holt Jr. twice to request the refund. He falsely claimed he was still waiting for me to come back to complete the crown work and refused to return the overpayment. He ignored my request for antibiotics on day one. Instead of evaluating my pain, he forced ill-fitting crowns and pushed on my injured teeth, told me "crowns don't have to touch the gum" - a dangerous lie that invites infection. When he caused the intolerable pain shooting up to my head, he accused me of "wasting his dental glue" and kicked me out with exposed teeth, and pushed me to "come back and do it all over again." Despite my email begging for one amid escalating nerve pain and symptoms, John Holt Jr. Refused to provide an endodontist referral, and lied in notes. Delta Dental confirmed the single temporary crown for two teeth and overcharged co-pay are fraudulent. Result: * Lost two front teeth * Near Blindness in one eye with blurred vision and constant pain, 24/7 unbearable headaches * Nerve damage, dizziness, light/sound sensitivity, confusion, can't type as eye hand coordination is off or walk straight * Live in a dark room, can't eat or work * Disfigured & isolated, even have to wear mask when getting mail Delta has investigated/recovered funds, but the damage is done--I'm pursuing the Oregon Board of Dentistry for license review. Stay far away - John Holt Jr. is dangerous.
