Operators are poorly trained and harass other drivers and riders around them. Do not recommend.

We met at the Fabulich Center and boarded the bus with Katie as our tour guide and Debbie (?!) as our fabulous driver. Thanks for being such a gentle driver! We saw so much more than I was expecting: the longshoremen, all the equipment, the waiting ships, you won't believe how many new cars, the businesses that rely on the port, and a forklift logjam we had to wait for. The only bad thing was the microphone didn't work properly and Katie had to yell for the last hour or so. I felt bad for her but that thing started screeching like a banshee at the halfway mark. It had to go. The bus tour is a great way to learn how important our Port is to Tacoma and I'm so glad I went. I really want to go on the boat tour the Port does in August so I can see the Port from a different angle. The boat tour is free too and I bet those tickets go fast! And did I mention the tours are FREE? My favorite four letter f-word!

I don't have much need to go to the Port of Tacoma since it is mostly all industrial here and there…read moreare no stores or anything that would bring in a lot of people. There isn't much in the way of parks to go to either but there is a nearby wetland park that you can go to and the stroll is pleasant. What prompted me to go to the Port of Tacoma is that there is an observation deck at the administration building where you can see the big cargo ships anchored into the port and see them unload cargo. The weekend when Steve and I went here they were unloading a lot of cars from one of the ships. It was a bit odd in feeling. There are a ton of people that work at the port and you can tell when you have to make the turn to the administration building because a whole slew of new cars that are being unloaded is mainly the oncoming traffic that you deal with but in other areas it is seemingly completely deserted. I know that it isn't, all of the worker bees are just tucked away in the buildings working away. We found the observation deck and it is indeed worth checking out. It is in the parking lot for the administration building. It's good to come here on weekends because you have the whole place to yourself. If you go during the week parking could be tight as there are only a few specific parking spaces that pertain to visitors for the observation deck. Parking may not be an issue during the week but I can't guarantee one way or the other there. Since this is an unfamiliar area to me and Steve we used the GPS to get here. We simply put in "Port of Tacoma" however the directions will take you to a booth with a gate and if you don't have the proper clearance you obviously can't go any further. So we almost gave up but we made a left just before the booth and went down about two blocks worth and hung a right at an intersection, went around a corner and on the left is the administration building. If you keep going straight you run into another booth and gate. So there was definitely some trial and error in getting here but the view of the ships is worth it and there is no charge to utilize the observation deck. It's a great little weekend outing as well as a good place to take visitors from out of town.

Next time you need to just go to the Post office, take a friend or out of town visitor here. It is definitely tourist friendly. The elevator was photo worthy but due to a time restraint I could not go picture crazy. The coffee shop was worthy to visit and grab a donut or cup of coffee but poor barista was doing a couple of jobs at one time. He was struggling to help 3 customers and my watch was ticking so maybe next time our family will come have a coffee and donuts. The post office had the beautiful historic touch and my son adds it even have a smell of history. I understood well and it was not that bad smell but it had that historical groove and you felt good vibes here. It was kind of like a Mr Roger's neighborhood flavor and modern mixed in one. I enjoyed my visit and I will definitely be back. This trip to the post office brought a new experience and excitement about Tacoma! The hospitality at the actual post office was the highlight moment. Genuine old fashioned customer service and genuine smiles. The smiles was all contagious among strangers too. It is so many hidden gems of history in this place. Please Yelpers if you come , you will get camera crazy. I started to but my husband was restless for his other errands. But husband dear, I am going to sweet talk him to bring me back for a great coffee date. Thank for so much history in this place. I love and it was our conversation piece all day.
